Sympathies to the family on the loss of a fine man. I just lost my Mom in May. I remember Mr. Barger being so in love with his teaching and military background. He taught math using running laps around a field as an example. Sorry I made you so mad :-)I turned out better then I acted in HS. Rest in peace.

I remember being worried about the Colonel catching us during senior hook days... but I also remember him telling me to consider following my father's footsteps and serving my country. That was excellent advice sir. U.S. Army Retired - Class of 1985.

Col Barger was a wonderful man. I am blessed to have known him. It was a treat to read so many wonderful things about his life that I never knew in his obituary. -David J Stagliano AHS class of '85.

I was out of town when Mr. Barger passed away and have just seen the guest book. I worked with Mr. Barger at AHS, he was a wonderful person. I know the students and everyone respected him. My sympathy to his family.

I taught with Don Barger at Arundel High School starting in 1986. I fondly remember how he cared about students and teachers and treated all fairly. Education needs more heroes like Don! RIP

When youthful ones speak
Such elegance of the aged
The message rings loud
Echoes praising
From the heart
From the soul
Of tales often told
Of those who cared
And gave their all
For this Don Barger
You are standing tall
As You Rest in Peace
For Eternity

Don was a wonderful man and a great friend and neighbor at Vista Palms. We always enjoyed talking with him after he swam his lapse in the pool. Mary and family, please accept our condolences on your loss. May your many wonderful memories comfort you during this time.

Don "The Colonel" and his lovely wife Mary have been my next door neighbors for the past thirty two years. The Colonel was a great guy with a great sense of humor. He teased me because I earned three degrees but never got past E-5 in the Army reserve. " That's a disgrace" he told me. My mother always told me that you could not put a price on a good friend or neighbor. Don and Mary were both. I used to salute the Colonel no matter what he was doing even riding his lawnmower and holding the salute until he would return the salute. He jokingly told me that he apprecited the fact that I always treated an officer with respect. He used to mow part of my lawn becasuse my mowing did not meet his standard. I rewarded him with a case of Heineken at Christmas and tomatoes from my organic garden. My mother also ended her time on earth on dialysis... a REAL ordeal. Don handled this with courage and dignity.. that was his style. He told me that as a parent we should expect more from our children than ourselves. He did succeeed at this. Col. Don " You WILL rest in peace, That's an order sir!!" Dr Ken Hatch Annapolis, Maryland
