Gordon Sundin Obituary

Gordon V. Sundin, Jr.

Naples, FL

Gordon "Gordie" Sundin Jr., 78, of Naples, FL, passed away peacefully into the arms of our loving Lord on May 2, 2016.

Gordie was a Minnesota native, a sports enthusiast who never found a sport he didn't enjoy or participate in. He was a 1955 graduate of Washburn High School in Minneapolis, was All State and lettered in Baseball, Football and Basketball. He was the first inductee into the WHS Hall of Fame. In 1956 he signed with the Baltimore Orioles as a pitcher. After his seven year baseball career he and wife Mary Ann returned to Minnesota to raise their three daughters.

He was active in Kiwanis Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, St. Mary's Rehab Alumni and Major League Baseball Alumni Players Association, among others.

He started his own steel company, later transitioning into a very successful career in Real Estate Development. He continued his experience in Naples, FL after 1984. He loved music, sang in the church choir and loved God, his family and friends with all his heart.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Mary Ann (née Dorsey); his beloved daughters, Cindy Sundin-Klaverkamp, Terri (Jeff) Greiner, and Cori (Barry) Higgins; his grandchildren, Kirsti and Kristopher Klaverkamp, Chad, Megan and Josh Greiner, Christie (Brennan) Fitzgerald, Hannah (Nick) Pratt and Matthew Higgins; and great- grandchildren, Brady and Lilah Fitzgerald.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 7775 Vanderbilt Beach Rd., Naples, FL. The family will greet friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Geordie was a true friend. We enjoyed golf, Kiwanis, going to spring training games, talking sports and discussing family. We used to meet at Skillets in Bonita after he stopped playing golf. So sorry I missed the notice of his passing. My apologies to his loving family and especially Mary Ann.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I had the honor of meeting Gordon (poppy) on several occassions. I will remember him most at Nick and Hannah's beautiful wedding, seeing him with the biggest smile on his face, on that dance floor with his favorite girls. The pride in his eyes for all of you was so obvious. It was such a precious moment I am sure you will all treasure forever. What a special man he was. I am very happy I had the opportunity to know him. I hope at this time of sadness you find peace in knowing he is with the Lord and he is happy and in no pain. My love and prayers are with you all.
