Knowing Bill was to know a true American hero. He was the epitome of leadership, courage and honor. Bill made me strive to be better, always. His knowledge, guidance and abilities saved many lives both directly and indirectly. Bill taught me to aspire for success. He changed the lives of many and the history books of many more. I am so sad to hear that Bill passed away. He touched the hearts of many on Kauai, including my son Tylor. He was also a treasured friend to myself and many of the teachers at Kapaa High School. I feel so blessed to have had him in my life....

Truly, Bill was one of our finest; headstrong, determined, honest, and enough character to fill a book! He will be greatly missed and stories of his deeds and antics will be told for years. Rest in Peace, Bill.

Bill, you were the character of characters. Larger than life. Harder than woodpecker lips. You walked tall, shot straight and spoke the truth. I know you sit at Odins table in Valhalla now. Thanks for all the memories.

Analytic, chiseled, decisive, hard, humorous, ingenuitive, loyal, obstinate, orator, quick, smart, and crusty ol' son-of-a-gun; great example of a Patriot!
These were just some of his characteristics that made him the colorful, gregarious and charismatic guy who laughed at his own mistakes (sometimes after we did first) and would chew the fat with anyone who would listen and give the time.
Thanks for being a part of our lives and being part of the legends and stories we'll tell that make people do double takes in what sometimes is a mixture of jealousy, wonder and amazement.
RIP, Bill, we're all better for knowing you and we're certainly gonna miss you!

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Barchers family, as Bill will always be remembered by giving back to his military family. As a member of the VFW he touched our hearts the moment he walked in the door for the first time, and has ever since and will continue to be part of our hearts. His giving of his time so that someone would learn the golden rules was exceptional. May he find peace with the Lord, as well as his family. God Speed.

Aloha,
These are words of condolence from Deborah Morel and my daughter, Meagan Morel, from Kaua'i, Hawaii.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Bill's family and friends. We were very sadden to hear of Bill's passing.
My daughter was in Jr. ROTC at Kapaa High School where Bill taught and lead these students. Bill looked after these students as though they were his own.
Bill was often seen in the community with his Jr.ROTC "Battalion." It was comforting to see a community member looking after our youth. These students will feel the loss.
My father, who is now deceased, is retired Lt. Col. Oscar Morel, Jr., USMC, Commanding Officer. Sgt. Mjr. Barchers was an exemplary role model for the students involved in Jr. ROTC.
Bill left Kauai a better place for his being there.
God bless Bill's family. God Bless Bill. God bless the USA for having such a fine Office as Sgt. Mjr. William Barchers protecting our freedom.

Bill, I will remember you always as you were when we first met. You had just returned from the Gulf War - younger then, lean and tanned and fit, in your prime. I will remember your smile, your easy laughter, your sparkling eyes, your zest for life. You will always live in my heart just as you were then. I hope to see your beautiful daughters again soon, whenever I can visit the Portland area, and to see you in them. And I thank you for the huge impact your life had on mine. Thank you being David's friend, and for introducing us. Rest in peace, Bundle Bill, we love you so.
