James Heben Estero, FL
James Heben, 72, passed away Monday, July 22, 2013 after a valiant fight; defeat ing Multiple Myeloma, but losing his battle with Leukemia. Jim was born to Andrew and Rose Heben on December 22, 1940 in Massillon, OH.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marianne Heben; his children, Greg Heben (Lisa) of Naples, FL, Jennifer Jones (Rich) of Odenton, MD, and Erik Heben (Paula) of Ft. Myers, FL; grandchildren, Brendan Jones, Lauren Heben, Hailey Jones, Kevin Heben, Peyton Heben, Hunter Jones, Jason Jones, and Preston Heben; brother, Rick Heben (Marcia) of Centerville, OH; sisters, Barb Grosse (Dave) of Stow, OH and Diane Self (Steve) of Massillon, OH; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Andy Lipman, Mandy, Lee, Carolyn, Debbie and such a caring and loving staff of Florida Cancer Specialists of Bonita Springs.
Jim graduated from Central Catholic High School in Canton, OH in 1959 where he had great athletic success on both the football field and wrestling mat. He attended Miami of Ohio before joining the Army where he was stationed at the 38th Parallel, at the time the newly created border between North and South Korea.
After his Army service he embarked on a 30 year career with the J.C Penney Company. Jim began his career at J.C. Penney as a salesman in the men's department but while raising his family in North Canton, Ohio worked his way up the 'corporate ladder' to a District Manager of the eastern United States.
Upon 'retirement' he purchased the Pavilion Bookstore in Naples, FL which he ran with his eldest son, Greg for 18 years. Jim was the type of person that had many interests and he never did them halfway. His love of motorcycles, fishing and reading were passions he pursued with great energy but they always took a back seat to the love, devotion and commitment he had for his grandchildren. Jim had a deep understanding and appreciation for the meaning of family and he lived his life in that light.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Light Catholic Community Church, 19680 Cypress View Drive, Estero, FL, with reception to follow.

My sympathy to Jim's family I grew up with Jim. I lived on 10th st. when Jim's family was on 9th. I am Barbara's age and we all went to St. Mary's together. We all played together running around our yards and many times in the street. It was a shock to read Jim's obituary. We were kids together and some times it's hard to realize how old we now are.
