Nicole Boice Obituary

Nicole "Nikki" Lynn Boice, 30, of Hummelstown (formerly of Tunkhannock), peacefully left this earth and received her angel wings on April 25, 2010, while at home.
She was born on Oct. 19, 1979, in Tunkhannock, to Stephen and Yvonne Boice.
She was a 1998 graduate of Wyalusing Valley High School as a member of the National Honor Society. She went on to attend Kutztown University and graduated with a bachelor of science with a major in psychology and a minor in music. She was, most recently, a grad student at Temple University in social work. Nikki loved to play her violin in the elementary, high school and college orchestras. She also took that love of the violin to different church programs.
Nikki is survived by her parents, Yvonne Boice and John Borawski, Tunkhannock, and Stephen and Martha Boice, Sugar Run; a brother, Jeff Boice and Patricia Whitlock, Jenningsville; a sister, Brenda and Andy Everett, Sugar Run; two stepsisters, Ladonna and Don Martin, Shickshinny; Theresa Wehner, Colorado; and one stepbrother Kenny and Zabrina Valentine, Laceyville. She is also survived by her maternal grandmother, Hettie Tinna, Wyalusing; aunts and uncles, Diane and Spud Morrison, Wendy and Lynn Bloom, Kenneth and Wendy Tinna, Shirley and Philip Goodwin, Marsha and Chuck Henning, Jim Tinna, LuAnn and Carl Gowin, Harold and Gail Tinna, Connie and Randy Benscoter, Carol Sharts, and Mike Goodwin; step-aunts and uncles, Charles and Joyce Fassett, Richard and Ruth Fassett, Iva Fassett, Clifford and Carol Fassett, William and Mary Walter, Bill and Mary Fassett, Pearl and Elisa Fassett, David and Margaret Fassett, Edward and Lynn Fassett, Amy and Joe Lott, Tony Maddox; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Nikki sadly leaves behind her beloved guinea pigs, Lucy, Sophie, and Smudge, which she had certified as therapy pets for the Ronald McDonald House in Hershey.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Oliver and Marie Boice; maternal grandfather, Harold "Bim" Tinna; aunts Sharon Boice Serbel and Penny Sue Tinna; cousin Denise Lynn Tinna; and step-grandmothers Betsy Boice and Ella Cole.
Nikki was a proud supporter of several charitable organizations, including the American Heart Association, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Arthritis Foundation, the American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research, and the Ronald McDonald House, just to name a few. She also supported these organizations by participating in marathons in Ireland and Hawaii, along with participating in local runs and walks to include a heart walk in Harrisburg and Susan G. Komen "Race for the Cure" in Scranton.
Nikki was a huge advocate for the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, and her most recent passion was lobbying in Washington, D.C., for the Gail R. Schoenbach FREED (For the Recovery and Elimination of Eating Disorders) foundation side-by-side with Rep. Patrick Kennedy.
Nikki had a smile and heart that was so big, she touched the lives of all her knew her. She will be forever missed by all and will always be in our hearts.
Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon, April 30, at the Mehoopany United Methodist Church.
Interment, Union Hill Cemetery, Mehoopany.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Heart Association, ANAD Foundation, FREED Foundation, Arthritis Foundation, Leukemia and Lymphoma Association, or the American Cancer Society.

Nikki,
My heart broke upon hearing of your passing. We had so many great times together playing our violins in orchestra and the school plays. You always made me laugh no matter what kind of day I was having. Rest in Peace Nikki.

I was just getting the chance to truly know Nicole. I admire her fearlessness and passion to help. I was able to work with her on several projects and awareness promotions and learned a tremendous amount from her. She is a true inspiration to me. I can only hope to that my efforts towards justice and awareness will be a celebration of her life and hard work. My heart goes out to her family and friends. I was lucky to know her.

Dear Boice Family and Friends:

I am the leader of the ANAD support group in Harrisburg in which Nicole was an active member. Since she was no longer enrolled at Temple, she was attending more regularly, and was recruiting members to drive down to Washington, DC for Eating Disorders Coalition Advocacy Day. We will miss Nicole's enormous heart, and kind and gentle ways. The world just lost an extraordinary social worker. Please accept our condolences.

I still can't believe you are gone, especially since we just made plans. It will hopefully make us all be inspired to cherish every moment, because it can be gone in a second. I don't know anyone else in my life that accomplished as much as you did in such a short time. May we all learn to continue to live our lives as you did-selflessly and wanting to make others happy and make this world a better place. To your family, no words can comfort you. Just know that she is well and is with God with her beautiful wings watching over you.
