Dr Stearns was our Vet since the Eighties. He was very knowledgeable about a whole variety of animals. He always told you the real deal. Our family misses him dearly. My deepest sympathies to the family. Rest in Peace Dr. Daniel Stearns III
I Just learned about his death and I'm extremely sadden. He educated me greatly in regards to animals and how to medically treat them in any crisis. He was such a blessing to those that knew him, and will truly be missed.I give me condolences to his family, I truly loved him and he will always be remembered. He was a great friend and to him I can only say, Good Bye My Dear Friend, We shall Meet again.
Dr. Stearns was our vet since 1986. It was only today I leaned of his passing and I am greatly saddened. He helped us through many crises, as well as routine care for our cats. He gave us an extra 6 months with our Gwen, when we thought she'd have to be put down.
Without your kindness and generosity, we would never have made it through the bad times, you will be missed. We love you doc.
Medjai and I will miss you forever, you were truly his best friend.
For many years I have wanted to write Dr Stearns a letter of thanks and I kept putting it off. Now it's too late. I appriciate so much what Dr Stearns did for me. When I was just out on my own I didn't have much money. There were some emergencies with my dogs and Dr Stearns always treated them and allowed me to pay on a payment plan. He saved their lives. I was so grateful to him for treating my babies. I never missed a payment to Dr Stearns even if it meant going without food for myself. I always wanted to tell him how much that it meant to me that he put my animal's lives before his own pocketbook. Thank you Doctor.. you will be missed
RIP DR. DANIEL CHARLES STEARNS III
I just heard this morning of Doc's passing and am saddened that we lost such a kind, caring, man. I've been taking my pets to him since my move back to ohio. I was always entertained my his sense of humor. Our loss is heavens gain...now he can be with all the late pets he's cared for over the years. We'll miss you Doc.
Seeing the for-sale sign on the building of Doc Stearns practice made me wonder and go in search hoping that he had just retired. But to my dismay I saw his obiturary and am very saddened by his passing.
I know that he is back with his best friend whom he loved very much.
My heart goes out to his family.
Doc loved caring for all the pets that came thru his door, no matter what the breed.
He was an asset to the community and will be truely missed by all.
I remember him telling me about how he started the horse farm at Ohio State University. I always loved hearing his stories.

I just heard the news and and can't believe Dr. stearns is gone. He took care of all my animals for the last 30 years. We will all miss him
Sharon in Cleveland Oh.
I just found out today as I drove to take my dog Kaiser to see Dr. Stearns, that the good Doctor had passed away. I am very saddened for the loss, for all us creatures (human & animal). Dr. Stearns love and devotion will not soon be forgotten. I wish to extend my deepest condolences to the Family and staff of Euclid Veterinary Clinic.
We were saddened to learn that our dear Dr. Stearns had passed away. We learned while taking our latest rescue dog, Mr. Chumley, to meet Dr. Stearns for the first time and found the note on the door of the clinic. Dr. Streans had cared gently for my families, and my pets for 50 years - Rex, Rex II, Cinders, Wolfgang, and JB, our 15 year old beagle who passed away a year ago. No one had better stories, a more interesting office, kinder staff, or more love for animals. We will miss him dearly. He truly loved "all creatures great and small."
I really appreciated the care Dr. Stearns offered to my Dogs Jada and Ram. My blessing goes out to his entire family. He had a wonderful spirit. Shavaun Jones (Euclid)
I also just learned of Dr. Stearns' passing. I really liked him and he's taken really great care of my 14 year old beagle (CeCe) since she was an 8 week old puppy. I will truly miss you Dr. Stearns and your sense of humor!
I loved Doc ! I'll miss him. I admire him for being the man he was and the caring he had for each and every animal he touched. He was a fine man and a true gentleman with a heart of gold. I love and will always remember the moments when he said things that made me laugh. He had a great sense of humor. Once he told us that he delivered a cow on a ship during WW II. Amazing. I told him to write a book... like James Herriott did. He said his sis-in-law told him to too. I loved the way he defended an animal.. once when people brought a dog in with the collar grown to the dog's neck, Doc was quite adament and let them know. He was wise and truthful and wonderful. He gave me a picture of himself and his horses, back at Thisiledown days. He sure was a handsome man ! Taking care of all the Cleveland Mounted Police horses too ! I'll never forget and am grateful to have the honor and privelge that it was to know such a class-act person ! I read once , ' The World Knows Little of It's Greatest Heroes. ' He is one of them ! it was fun to talk to him about things. My husband and I took the poodles in. He had trouble with his throat with horseness that day and he said ' Listen carefully. I don't want to repeat things. " It was memorable that day . I asked him a question and he looked at my hubby and said, " Now what part of this does she not understand? " They laughed and of course he had that twinkle in his eyes. Our family will miss him . One more thing... he went in to the hospital to check on his patients every day .
Amazing one of a kind man. Thank you for listening.
I loved Dr. Stearn and his kindness to people and animals. Plus he had such a wonderful sense of humor. We will miss him and never forget him.
I just found out today that doc passed, what a shock.I always felt Dr Stearns would live forever. We will miss you very much!!
Some of my earliest and fondest recollections as a child were of time spent with family at Doc and Mrs. Sterns country farm and on their boat near Lake Erie. Early on, it became very obvious to this youngster that the Sterns' knew how to live and love life to the fullest. What fine and decent people to have been touched by at an early age.

I first met Doc Stearns in 1965 when I was editor of the Horsemen's Journal magazine and Dan wrote a monthly column. We remained friends throughout his long and productive life. Dan loved life, family, people, horses and small animals. I'm not at all surprised to read the many well-deserved tributes in his memory.

Dr. Stearns was a loving person. He took care of both my dogs for me and when I didn't have the money to pay he never pressed me for it as long as I paid when I could. His focus was the health and well being of the pets and it wasn't about the money never. He was the best doctor and there was never be anyone else like him. He'll be missed although he is now taking care of the heavenly animal flock.
Dr Stearns will be missed very much. He was so understanding, so compassionate when I had to put my cat Lila to sleep- he let me sit in his back office and hold her until she passed- I'll remember his kindnesses always. God bless his family, our prayers are with you.
We are greatly saddened to hear the passing of Dr. Stearns. He was a wonderful doctor. No matter what your concern was, he took his time answering any questions you may have. He will be greatly missed.
Doc Stearn was a true gentleman. He took care of our family's dogs, and most significantly helped say goodbye to Satchmo, my 13 year old bulldog, in June 2010. I will never forget how kind, caring, and professional he was. He truly loved what he did. To see someone with a passion for what they do, well beyond the "expected" retirement age, is a living lesson for us all. R.I.P. Doc Stearn....tell Satchmo to be a good boy, and we'll see you both one of these days!
I just found out! Doc was the BEST DOC in the entire UNIVERSE! And not just to animals. He was kind to people too. I became a client in 1990. When my nephew needed some extra credits at Euclid High School to graduate, Doc let him work there. When I was unemployed, he still took care of my babies. Love you Doc, RIP with Mrs. Doc.
My Love and respect always, you are truly Loved and will be terribly missed.
"If there is a "Rainbow Bridge" I am sure you are there"
Thank You, with Love and prayers.
I'm probably one of the oldest clients Dan Stearns had. --- Actually, my parents 1st called on him to tend to our poisoned dog when I was only a week old back in April of 1951. He came to our home! Since then, he helped us shepherd many dogs---through good days as well as the rough times. He really knew his stuff and continually gave of himself well above & beyond! Though he typically was a no nonsense kind of guy and sometimes (I think) probably misinterpreted as gruff, all would have been brought to tears if they'd seen how he comforted (in 2001) my then 83 year old father back in the rear room when it was time to put Dad's dog down. --Dan could look at a pet and 9 times out of ten (or more?) could tell you right off the bat what was wrong. He never ordered tests or treatments that were worthless or that would result in prolonged misery for a pet. And he was always a tremendous advocate for the lives, health, and happiness of our treasured pets, knowing full well what they meant to us. It's impossible to say thank you enough, though I tried. I thank all of his staff as they were wonderful too(even back to his mother), and extend condolences and my gratitude to his family for sharing him with us. Because of Doctor Stearns, we fully enjoyed and will forever treasure our memories of Christie, George, Martha, Doc, Goldie, Sam, Dolly, Prince, (neighbors of Moushi, Spot, Blueie, & Bingo Smith), Flax, Sheebah, Sam(II), Christie(II), Patriot(Patty), and Cleveland.
February 12,2011 Thank you "Buff" for being my "brother" over the years. I'll miss you, esecially seeing you on my visits to Euclid. May G God bless your soul.
I knew Doc Stearn when I was 10 and my parents took their pets too him. I moved back to Ohio 2 years ago and took my pets to see him. I will greatly miss him. He was an angel.. I know he missed his wife greatly after she passed away several years ago. I will greatly miss him too.

DR.STEARNS... may u rest in peace ....!!!!
Doc Stearns was the Best Equine Vet ever. He had almost a sixth sense when it came to horses. I've taken my animals to Doc since the 70's and the last time I saw him -I made sure I gave him a hug! Glad now that I did! Those shoes will never be filled! Doc may you find a Heaven full of Horses!
Doctor Stern was a pleasure to have known him. With great regreat our codolences to his family to a great man.Sorry to the staff and especially Dale. Rich an Sandy Whittington
Doc - Yesterday we received the heartbreaking news. You gave us so much - your wisdom, frankness, healed and cared for Q, Mia, Bgr (may they be with you - running pastures and climbing the trees), Jack, Henley and Paige. It was sad you never got to meet the new addition - our Boo. Thank you for all you did for our family. The compassion and dignity you presented when we laid Bgr to rest, when money was too tight, the extra moments to talk - making sure I got it all down, and for taking the "worry away". You are already so missed by us. So Deeply.
I'm so sorry to hear about Doc's death. I worked at Euclid Vet. Hosp. in high school and part time when I got out of the army. I know you will be missed by many. Phil Shaw
My he touch the hands of God...
Dr. Stearns has been there for our pets for over 25 years. He has been there every step of the way for our cats and our German Shepherds from when they were puppies, right to their last breaths...even when our first Shepherd Sam ate a dozen candy canes, wrappings and all! I hope his tradition of caring, and compassion lives on. Dr. Stearns really cared about pets and their owners having access to good care with very affordable prices. Not many veterinarians have that same level of genuine concern. It wasn't about the money or fancy office environment, it was about making sure the animals received the care they needed. You will be missed, Dr. Stearns! The Hammons Family
We miss You Doc. Thank you for always taking care off the little ones You will be missed very mutch Auf wiedersehn in a better place say Hi to Mama Dieter and Helene Kalix Painesville Ohio
My late brother, Mac, worked with Doc Stearns in the 1960s, and always held him in the highest regard. I remember him from his work with the horses at Acadia Farms. What a long, productive, and meaningful life he lived. My condolences to his family.
Dan Iam so sorry to hear the passing of your father. Doc gave me my first job ever and a work ethic that has stuck with me my whole life. He was grumpy on the outside but very caring on the inside. It was a true pleasure to have had him in my life. Doc I will never forget you, may you rest in peace.
Thank you Dr. Stearns for always being there for my little babies. Gonna miss you telling me about your horses. You were and will always be the best VET in town. To the Staff at Euclid Vet, Continue to do an outstanding job.
Doc, I was pleased to know you.
We are very sorry to hear of Doc Sterns' passing. Like most everyone else, we thought he'd live forever! He took very good care of our many pets over the years, and was most kind when we were faced with putting our beloved Rinny down two days before Christmas last year. He let us be with her during those final moments and after.
God bless the Sterns family. RIP Doc Sterns.
How nice to know that this well loved and respected man's only child, a son named for his father, has the same spirit of compassion and concern for animals, as illustrated by the efforts of others to find suitable homes for the 52 Thoroughbreds that remained in Dr. Stearns' stables, when Dr. Stearns 'crossed the Rainbow Bridge'. Godspeed, Dr. Stearns.
Dr. Stearns was a wonderful man and doctor. He has taken excellent care of our pets for many years at such reasonable prices. We are truly saddened by his death and want to extend our sympathy to his family.

Doc Stearns will be sadly miss by all who knew him. Three generations of our family went to Doc with our sick and injured pets and always received the best care and advice.
My first job as a boy of 12 was working for Doc (60 years ago). He paid me with a dozen eggs for shoveling out the kennels. He was more than just an employer or friend. He was like a father to me. My condolences to Daniel & family, and Doc's office staff.

Dr. Stearns will truly be missed, and I feel bad for the animals and owners that went to him because they will never get the service from another vet that will match what Dr. Stearns gave to them. What a big loss for this area!
All my pets knew the Doc. he had special gifts with animals and people. He treated all his patients with so much love. I will miss visiting him with my dogs. God Bless the family and my prayers are with you

I'm sorry to hear the passing of Dr. Stearns. Sad that a good man has to go. I'm very sorry to hear the news.
Dr. Stearns was a wonderful person and was good to people no matter where they were from. He gave countless hours to Ohio Horseman. Just a wonderful man!
I am , Jim Benton
I will miss you. I remember the Sunday afternoon you came despite having strep throut and cared for my horse with colic. You were one in a million!
Doc vetted a horse for me back in the 80's...it only turned to the left as it was an un-broke 2 year old in the feild...He put the name 'Lefty' on the coggins, it was by his stallion 'Call To Combat' too bad there aren't more vets around like him, I will miss him ~ Lefty was put to rest in July of 2010 age 28!
My deepest condolences to his family and his co-workers. I will miss him very much. He was grumpy on the outside but the most caring person I could think of.
I am so sad to hear this. My condolences to the family. Dr. Stearns was so good with the animals and had reasonable rates. You will be will be missed. Rest in peace Dr. Stearns.
O H I O......
Thanks for your caring spirit.
My family was blessed to have Dr. Stearns watch over our pets for so many years. He seemed to work around the clock with a waiting room filled with people who appreciated his caring, professionalism and dedication. He selflessly kept his rates extremely reasonable so that hard-working people could have access to affordable pet care when needed. As a lawyer, I think of Dr. Stearns when I think the standard of profesionalism to which I should aspire. I will miss my talks with him, but take comfort in thinking of the joy he is experiencing in heaven now surrounded by the animals that he cared for these many years.
I am so sad to hear of this. Doc did a great job taking care of all the animals that came to see him. He did not try to gouge his customers and treated everyone with respect. He was the biggest OSU fan I know. He will be greatly missed.
A vet I finally saw eye to eye with. Blast. He had a prickly personality, as so many of us who prefer the company of animals do. My deepest condolences to his family, and to his clients.
How dare he pass away. Now I have to find another vet. You rest in peace, doctor, surrounded by the many animals and people you've helped.
Rest in peace Dr. Stearns. Thank you for you years of dedicated service to the animals. Your kind generosity, sense of humor, no- nonsense - tell it like it is approach was greatly appreciated and will be missed by many of us. God Speed!
So sorry to hear of the Doc passing. He was a great man and everytime I came in I'd read the sign above the door and laugh. Buckeye born and Buckeye bred and when I die I'll be Buckeye dead...He truly loved animals and Ohio State...Rest in Peace Doc
thank you dr. stearns. you loved us

His love of animals & horses always shined through. His passion for the right of the horses & horsemen was great. May his family carry on with his practice and farm Harmony Hill, he so cherished. He will be truly missed. Doc was President Ohio/West Virginia HBPA 1961. Director Emeritus-OTBO
Ohio Thoroughbred Breeders & Owners
I knew this day would come, but deep inside wanted Doc to live forever. He always knew how to fix my animals without a million tests. He was always straight to the point and never sugar coated things. In my many visits for my small zoo, he would always say "Let's try this no need to put them through the stress if we don't have to." We never had to. I remember one animal had diabetes and had to be on insullin. Doc let me buy insullin @ cost and gave me the needles. I dont know how he made a penny. He shared many stories and picture of hanging the OSU bell. I will deeply miss you Doc O.H.
Dr. was a good vet he treated my dogs and cats and helped them when they were sick
I was very sorry to hear about Doc's passing. I always enjoyed "shooting the breeze" when I brought my dogs in for care. He was quick and to the point and will sorely missed by many. Rest in Peace Doc.
To the Stearns family: My deepest sympathy in the loss of one of the greatest men I ever knew. No one could match his compassion for animals. May he rest now, and forever be held near in the hearts of all who knew him.
Dr. Stearns, you were one in a million, kind and gentle , sharing stories of your horses from Europe and your love of Ohio State where you would be happy to know our youngest son graduated this past December. God Bless you and keep you in his hands.
To the Sterns Family. Dr Sterns was my vet for many, many years up to current time. One of my beloved pets is buried on his property. He was the very best and compassionate vet I've met. He will be missed greatly.
Dear Doc Streans, You gave me my first job and it was a job. I had great times and laughs working for you. My best friend for 25 years David and I still tell stories of the Euclid Vet Hospital. Thank you for always taking care of my family and pets. I have 4 dogs, fish and a great job serving the City of Cleveland as a Cleveland Police Officer. Thank you Doc. My condolences to the Family.

He was our first horse vet. when we started Brick Hill Farms over 30 yrs. ago.Always here when our horses needed him. He came out one time in a tux. on his way to a party! That was dedication. Two many stories to tell of his visits over the years. He will be missed by all! The Mavec Family

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dr Sterns was always there for our family pets. My family has gone to him since I was a little girl. A couple years ago, my dog was ill and he took such good care of her! We got two more years with her before she passed and I will never forget the memories he gave us. He will be missed greatly!
Doc Stearns will be missed. Our family vet for generations. Peace.
We praise God for the life and service of our veteran. May he rest in peace in the arms of our Lord as a grateful nation mourns.
Michele N. Sandridge, Chaplain

Department of Ohio
I will miss Dr. Stearns very much. How does a 6 yr old little girl from Collinwood stay with her vet for the next 45yrs? Well whenever I would come in with any of my very sick pets he would always say let's try can't promise but let's try. And that certain look in his eyes I knew it was going to be ok. And it was. And he would like to talk to me about Italy where my family came from and where he would like to visit. We would always make each other laugh. Doc I will miss you deeply. Thanks for the memories.
Rachel Calabrese Lanese, Chesterland,Ohio
Dr.Stearns took care of my dog, my parent's dogs, and my grandparent's dogs and goats. As he was caring for my 115# gentle dog, I told him my dog does not bite. His reply "All dogs bite!" Rest in Peace Dr.Stearns, a kind, gentle, caring man. Lynda
Doc Stearns treated many a Payne family pet. We will miss his straight forward, sensible approach to animal care. He was an community treasure and will surely be missed.
Dr. Stearns helped us to save a stray cat who became a beloved pet for the next 10 years. Our condolence to his family. Please remember that Almighty God is near to those broken at heart (Psalms 34:17)
Dr. Stearns was surely a staple to our community. He never turned any client away - his commitment to his profession was 100 % all the way to the end. He's saved lives an given to our profession with all of his heart and soul. May he rest in peace. Staff, friends and family, you are all in my prayers during this sad time. He will truly be missed.
My deepest sympathy to Doc's family, friends and co-workers. He helped out so many people and their pets including myself. I wonder if he realized how many peoples lives he touched and how much he will be missed? What a great loss to the community. Thanks Doc for everything. ...time to hug my dog and have a good cry... - Pet Shop Pam -
Rest my friend, rest...
I am a Euclid Police Officer and met Doc through ownership of my late K-9 partner. Doc was a man with a heart of gold and random stories that would keep you entertained for hours. He allowed my family and I to stay at his house down in Barnesville during hunting season and I would share my harvests with him on my successful returns back north. A truly Great Man, may he Rest in Peace.
I have known Doc. for over 60 years. He has saved more than one of my dogs. I truely will miss his presence and generosity. A wonderfull person. I am out of town and won't be able to attend but my thoughts are with the family, Sam Fleshin, [formally of Euclid now in Chardon]
I had the opportunity to work for Dr. Stearns off and on for the past 22 years. He was always ready with a joke, or a quiz question about OSU.
We offer our sympathy to Dan in the passing of his father.
"You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in You." Isaiah 12:3 May God pour His blessings upon you in your time of sadness.
To the Stearns family, my family's deepest condolences.
I first met "Doc" Stearns in 1985 when I was assigned to the Cleveland Mounted Unit - he assisted then as he had done for many years before with the care of our horses. He quickly became my friend and vet. to my house pets, and followed my career w/ the P.D. until I retired in 2005. Even after moving to another county, I still brought my pet back to the (Euclid Clinc, where the "Doc" cared for him.
"Doc" was a true friend to everyone he met, he will be truly missed.
God bless him!
Don Strother, Sgt. (Ret) Cleveland Police Dept.
I've known Doc Stearns since I was a little girl. Both of my brothers, Jim and Bill worked for him. My Mom, Elma worked for him, too. He was a great man. He always asked about my family and I would fill him in. He never took advantage of someone's situation. He was always honest and fair with people. I will really miss him.
Doc has been my GOOD friend and also my vet for about fifty years. He was always concerned for any animal and I knew him for his race horses also. We always talked about his latest foals and new runners. He cannot be replaced in my life. GOD SPEED DOC!!!!
Rose Harbin(Willowick, Ohio)
I have much gratitude for Dr. Stearns. If you had a sick or injured animal, he would see to it the animal was treated, no matter what. He will remain in my heart, always. May God bless him.
Daniel Stearns, longtime owner, Thoroughbred Horse breeder, veterinarian, and a former head of the Ohio Horsemen's Benevolent and Protection Association will be missed by all that knew him.
Dr Stearns served as the state veterinarian at Sunshine Park in the late 1940's before coming to Thistledown in the early 1950's. He has bred and owned horses in the state ever since. Stearns was a driving force behind the creation of the Ohio Thoroughbred Breeders' and Owners.
My first association with Dr Stearns was in 1958 when Dr Dan was the Veterinarian for Howard Schulz's S.O.M. School of Equestrians in Mayfield Village. As a preteen, Dr Dan used to have me help him while he doctored the horses. Dr Dan sure did a great job with doctoring our horses. RIP Dr. Dan
I remember taking my dog to Dr. Stearns back in the seventies. She was sick and I took her to a couple of vets and they could not figure out what was wrong with her.At someones suggestion I took her to see Doc Stearns. He hit the nail right on the head. She was a young pup at the time thanks to the doc she lived to be seventeen. My sympathy to doc's family.
Doc Stearns was the BEST!! My family and I have been going to him since the 1950's and we would never have gone to any other Vet. He knew EVERYTHING!!! I took my Husky there - he gave her a shot and gave me 6 pills and she was feeling better by that evening - not sure what was wrong with her but he fixed her. He has mended so many of my pets for so many years. I am truely going to miss him and his wonderful knowledge and his compassion for animals. Rest in Peace!! The McLoughlin and Artale families
I was very said to hear about Dr. Stearns. He will always be remembered by me as the best Vet it the world. He always took great care of my pets, and he will be missed, but never forgotten. I loved to hear his stories, especially when he was responsible for shipping animals to Europe after WWII. What a great man!! Elaine (Mentor, OH)
Dr. Stearns cared for many of my pets through the years, he was like and old friend. So sad he is gone, but he will always live on in our hearts and memories. R.I.P. Doc!!!
I have been going to Dr. Stearns for over 35 years, I took all three of my dogs. The office personal were always very nice and understanding when it came to the end of a pets life. He will be truly missed, and I hope his office stays open and goes on in his name.
Dr was a very giving & caring man & always help those that are trying to help them selves & may be struggling. He always treat I as a daughter. and my husband like family. Doc you will be remembered to the highest of power & never forgotten. We all love you here. God Has Blessed you & we will try to keep your great faith going & be giving to those all around us. You were one of a kind maybe we all be blessed by your spirit. Thanks so much!
WE REFERED TO DR STEARNS AS THE MAGIC DR. WE WOULD BRING A SICK PET IN AND LEAVE WITH A HEALTY PET. WE LOVED YOU DOCTOR AND WILL MISS YOU. SAY HELLO TO SAINT FRANCIS YOULL HAVE ALOT IN COMMON.
I will always remember Doc's stories about Ohio State and his horses. When our Doxie was having spinal problems, I called him on a Sunday to see if I could get some more medication for him. He said he just happened to be there feeding the animals, but he would wait for me to get there. Add to that there was a snow storm that morning, but wait for me he did! What other vet would do that? When we finally realized there was no more hope for Snickers, Doc was there once again to help him to the Rainbow Bridge. The world has lost a true friend of all animals. There should be so many more like him.
We will miss Dr. Stearns very much. He took care of our pets for over 30 years. He had a great sense of humor and told it like it is. What will we do now?
An amazing, knowledgeble, and most incredible veterinarian. We hold him in the highest regard. May he rest in peace.
Our peace is knowing he's up there with our Great Danes, Brewster and Stroud (a.k.a. Stinker).
God bless you Doc Stearns, and thank you for the years.
Kathy and Gary Remer
The world has lost an amazing man. His office was the only one from ashtabula-cleveland that would see my cat and let me pay later. You saved my cats life! I have never seen someone care more about animals health then getting paid. A true hero & fighter for animals! RIP I can not say enough kind words. You will be deeply missed!
I met Doc when I was 7 years old. Ill never forget his great sense of humor and he was always there for his friends. When God made Doc Stearns he broke the mold.Ill miss you Doc and will always remember you.
Doc will be missed by our family. My parents took generations of pets to him and then when I moved out on my own and got a pet we naturally took our pets there. When I was pregnant with my first child he always asked if I swallowed a watermelon seed. I will miss the stories he told me about being a Buckeye. Heaven has another angel, RIP Dr. Stearns.
Dr. Stearns was the best person ever. He helped so many animals. He was a kind soul and gave back so much. I will never for get him. He will be missed terribly...
Enjoyed your many stories, and quizes. Spell Cincinnati..... thanks for everything Doc. Hope all the pets met you at the Rainbow Bridge. You were a one of a kind gentleman, RIP Doc
I will miss you Dr. Stearns. You were always very good to me and helped me with alot of animals. RIP my friend.
Doc Stearns was my first landlord and my fathers best friend and co-worker. I lived above the vet hospital with George & Maxine Stuber for the first 4 years of my life. Doc's remarkable sense of humor and patience made my childhood so memorable. He employed most of my family through the years and repaired many beloved pets. One well-lived life makes a difference forever. "Doc" Stearns, you have left a positive mark that will never be erased.
I took my animals to Dr. Stern for more than 30 years. He was the best he truly cared for your animals and was the only vet around who did not charge for an office visit. He was all about caring for your animals not money. He will be truly missed be all including the many, many, animals that he cared for.
For 35 years Doc Stearns and I were friends. Took my dog and many cats to him, and those cats' ashes were scattered in the orchard on his horse farm. I thought he would live forever. I am so saddened by his death. God bless you Dr. Stearns...I guess God needed you now. You will be forever in my prayers.
"Thats all he wrote" I will miss this man so much he was my mentor.
this doctor was a one man band, he was never be able to replaced. he was caring, worked 6 days a week up to his illness then death. loved this doctor. he attended to 40 years of pets in our family of dogs and cats. such a beautiful man. i just learned of this news today. very sorry for the loss.
We are very saddened to hear of the passing of Dr Stearns. It was a pleasure to know him as a person and as a vet. He took great care of my dogs and whenever I took them to his clinic he would love to talk about the racehorses and my home country of England. He was a very special person and shall be greatly missed.
We are really going to miss you
You will be dearly missed my friend.
We are really going to miss you
I am so sorry to hear the passing of Dr. Stearns. He was always so good to me when I used to work for him. This was my first job when I was in high school, and I worked for him for four years. My mom also worked for him also. He was a wonderful person, and a kind and loving vet also. He will be greatly missed. I am truly saddened. May you rest in peace.
Although Dr Sterns was only our vet, he felt like he was part of our family. My mother was one of his biggest cheerleaders, always referring people to his office. She told everyone he was the best. He cared for all our many pets, over many many years. Please know he helped us through some hard days and shared in our good days. We were blessed to have him!. He will be missed!

The strength in the heart of this man was undeniable. He ran a tight ship but those of us who worked for him over the years knew he would help us through anything life brought before us. I loved this man and all he stood for.
Dr Dan Fifty eight years ago Lynn and I came to you - from Fritz to seven doxies later, presently Mitzi. you were a wonderful friend,a great humanitarian,a true American and postively the best Vet! You will be missed. Shirley Maurer God Bless You
Doc was rough aroung the edges but he knew what he was doing. When ALL the other vets told me to put my 2 yr old german shepherd to sleep I bought my dog to Doc to see what he had to say. Doc gave me pills for my dog and within a few weeks he was much better. Never really knew what was the exact problem with my dog. All I do know is even though he was on pills the rest of his life he was the happiest dog around and lived a great life until he passed away at the age of 16. Duke was just one the many pets of ours that the Doc helped over the last 26yrs. He will be missed! I pray that someone will keep the hospital open in honor of the Doc.
Thank you.Doc you took great care of all our cats and dogs since we first came to you in 1980 and even though we moved away we still came because of your kind caring nature. We all will miss you ! The Parrish and Lent Family as well as Mitzi,Lucky,Patches,Phoebe, and Tripod.
To my friend Doc. Thanks for everything you did over the years for my animals...dogs, cats, horses. The care and friendship you showed to my human family and to my pet family. There will never to another. And thank you for one of the greatest gifts I have ever received...my latest horse Valley of Death (Chances). He is loved and cared for as you wanted. He is a dream come true and truly a wonderful horse. I could never thank you enough. We always had a special bond through horses and you knew that I was meant to have one again after 23 years without. Thanks for giving me back that piece that had been missing. You were one special person and shall be greatly missed. Love Glenis Reyes and Valley of Death and all my pets from over the years.

I was very lucky to have Dr.Stearns as a dear friend and a vet to my animals. Doc loved life, he embraced life, he led a very full adventurous life. He was so dedicated to the hospital. He would have been 90 in June and he still worked 70 or more hours a week. His body was tired yet he never complained and just kept on working. He was a very smart man..I was always amazed at how much he knew about. He was like a walking encyclopedia. He loved Ohio State and the Buckeyes. He loved and owned many horses. He loved the Cleveland Police Mounted Unit. Men like him come along once in a lifetime. I am so grateful that I knew him. The hospital will never be the same without him..but hopefully it will go on. I lost a man whom I loved and respected so much..My heart is broken knowing that the chapter of my life with him in it is now over but I can hold on to knowing that there is another angel in heaven looking over us and that all the animals at Rainbow Bridge are so happy to see him. Thank you so much Doc for sharing your friendship with me..I am a better person because of it and I will always cherish the memories. I love you Doc and I miss you so so much already. God Bless You. Natalie and Gracey,Peanut,Lucy,Buckwheat,Oscar and Stinky Stanley
My husband and I were deeply saddened to hear about Dr. Stearns passing. We came to him after our beloved vet Dr. Bruce Wolf passed away suddenly. We felt very comfortable with him. He like Dr. Wolf could diagnose a problem just by looking at the dog walk in the room, preventing putting the animal through any needless stress. Dr. Wolf held him in the highest regard as did many people. He will be sorely missed by many of us. There are those that leave a mark in this world and Dr. Stearns was one of them. May he rest in peace.
Thanks doc for the many years of your unselfishness. to the animals and the animal owners. many things not mentioned in your obituary about you. i will miss your stories and pictures you shared with so many. may our prayers and love be with you as you heal the animals in heaven. Jimmy and Hilaria Kerr, Willoughby Hills,Ohio.
Dr. Stearns was my hero. He was a good doctor and a charming man. I loved all his stories he would tell complete with photos and news articles! His kind heart and love for animals is the reason so many familes were able to have and love their pets. My three cats (Charlie, Pepper and TT) and my entire family will miss this wonderful man. My prayers go out to his entire family.
Doc was the best ever!!! There will never be another vet like him. He was kind and compassionate and always had a good joke to tell. Doc will be dearly missed by both animal and humans alike. His friendship, honestly and compassion was greatly appreciated. RIP Doc. With all our love and respect Donna and Lee. (Weegee Shasta, Sparkles, Whiskers, Little Bit, Spice, and Rascal)
A true shining light has gone out. We will miss you, Doc.

If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin,
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.
You patched our pets up, you healed them
I want to Thankyou for your many years of great care you gave to the animals and owners...You will be deeply missed and forever loved.
You were a great man Doc.
Rest in peace
With all our respect to this great man who unselfishly gave the most to care for all animals. This vet hospital will never be the same without him. Rest in peace and God bless you forever.
Dr Stearns was so kind when both of my cats died. He was so gentle. He was straight and to the point which I always appreciated. Love, Gargamelle, Azreaelle, Dozer, Cali and Alexis
