Happy birthday!!!!
November 19, 2013
My cousin, George, was a rock in our family. He was much loved and is now very greatly missed. He was there in sad times and happy times. I always counted on George as I would a brother. We miss you, George. Mom misses your Sunday call with your greeting in French: "Tante Aimee, comment ca va? "

I remember George. He was one of the big brothers in our neighborhood. God Bless you George.

"An honorable coach. An honorable man."

Coach Janan truly was a gentle giant and I have always respected him as one of the kindest, most genuine people I've ever known. I first met George and his family when I was very young. The Janans lived in the same neighborhood as my family and Kelly and I were in the same Kindergarten class together, so I can remember George's jovial, caring presence for just about as far back as I can recall. During high school he was my varsity offensive line coach at Spruce Creek and was by far the best role model for our team. He consistently emphasized that hard work, good sportsmanship, and positive attitude were more important than any amount of points on the board, and he lived his words through acts of kindness and integrity. During the 98 season I suffered an injury during practice and was hospitalized for several days. George was the only coach to visit me while I was at Halifax and one of the few faculty members that always asked how I was doing after I graduated. If we lost a football game he was the only coach who was consistently positive, always offering words of encouragement and thanking us for "playing our hearts out". He holds a very special place in my heart and memory, and I am very thankful to have known such a caring, honest man whose love for the Lord and passion for education molded the lives of so many for generations to come. Thanks, coach. You are truly missed.

I not only had the privilege of calling him coach, friend and mentor but most importantly family. Thank you for praying for us every holiday we got together with the family, your blessings were as genuine as they get. I will always love our talks about football, life and family. You have inspired so many people in the classroom, on the field and through your work with god. I can only hope to be an inspiration like you. Love ya and miss ya.

George attended the same church as I. We would chat football often, but you could always tell his passion was Christ Jesus our LORD. He'll always remain a Christian example to me. Thanks George for your encouragement. I was truly blessed by your Christian devotion.

Sorry to see that George has passed. It was good to see him at the Seabreeze '71 reunions. He was one nice guy.
November 10, 2013
I'm sorry.....I meant to say baby "sitter", not sister.
November 10, 2013
Ray and Family, George will surely be missed, but for what he has achieved he will be remembered for an eternity. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
November 09, 2013
George was a wonderful man and I was so happy that he was a brother in Christ. I was George's baby sister when he was younger, along with his siblings. I am so so sorry that he has left us, but I am delighted in knowing that he is with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen to you, George!

I will miss you in PE class

George was one of the finest men I've had the privilege to know. He was a great contributor to our community, a leader by example and a man who lived his faith. Men of George's caliber are rare, and his absence will be felt by all of us who knew and loved him.

Coach Janan was a kind and loving man. I had the privilege of attending his Drivers Ed class. Port Orange lost a great man. He will be missed.

You are one of the most amazing people I have ever had the pleasure of spending time with, George. Even as a young teenager (15) in your home, I was always impressed with you and your family. From working the pooldeck at Perry's to eventually becoming my brother in law, I cherished the time I spend with you. I really loved your sense of pride and dedication and always trying to do the right, honorable thing, regardless of how difficult it might be to do so. It is like a time warp to think I have known you over 4 decades! I especially loved the way that everyone got together at your Mom's home and then enjoyed each other's company. Take care my friend and know that you are loved and missed by many but when I think of you I smile. Thinking of you and Ray wrestling like brothers do to blow off young steam...all I know was get out of the way FAST! Once you guys started moving so quickly, there was no refuge in the room you were in. What fun times thinking back about them. I love you George and my prayers are with you, your family and loved ones. Mark:-)

Although I never had the opportunity to meet Coach Janan, I have worked with his daughter, Kelly. Only a man with integrity could have produced a person as wonderful as her. Coach's legacy will continue to thrive because he has touched so many people throughout his time on earth and he will be missed by many people. My prayers are with the Janan family that their hearts will not be heavy.
November 09, 2013
Coach you will be missed, SIP!. To the family I will be praying that you remain strong, and that your hearts heals from this brokenness.

George helped coach my brother when he played baseball with Paul many many years ago and my brother has many fond memories of George early in his career. Our lives crossed again a few years ago when George taught my daughter in drivers ed at SCHS. It was like he never changed-he was the same gentle man I remembered as a young kid hanging out at the baseball field. My heart is sad knowing such a great teacher, coach and person has left us so suddenly. My thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.
November 09, 2013
George was a year ahead of me at Seabreeze High School. He was one of those "bigger than life" kind of guys. My sympathies to his family and friends.
November 09, 2013
George was big in heart big in mind big in soul and big in stature. What a wonderful love filled life he made! He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. God Speed George, and God's Peace to all he left behind.

Coach Janan was one of my drivers ed teachers as well as a coach on the track field. He always gave good advice and he had a great knack for teaching. He is a character that comes to mind when I think about high school. He will be missed.

George not only was a wonderful Coach and mentor but somehow knew when a mom, me, was afraid for my son's safety. George saw me some how watching far away and came to where I was and told me gently to go home and not worry. To allow my son to grow without fear. My heart goes out to his family for their loss.
November 08, 2013
George was indeed a wonderful man. It never mattered how many years had passed since we crossed paths, it was as if it was yesterday. The entire Janan family feels this loss, but know that you are not alone and many thoughts and prayers are with you as the world has truly lost a good one. Bless you all as you move through this challenge. My love and prayers are with you.

I can go back as far as 50 years knowing George. Are families grew up together. The last 15 years we were next door neighbors. There are so many great and wonderful things George did with his time on Earth. First he married Kathy, and then had 3 wonderful children. He was a teacher and coach. The lives he affected through his teachings is amazing. George was steady, reliable, family orientated, a loving gentle giant, and a firm believer of his God. Most importantly he loved his New York Yankees. The good die young. George, you left your legacies, and also left one heck of a mark in this world. May you R.I.P. my friend. You will be dearly missed, but we will meet again one day. With my deepest sympathy and my condolences go out to Kathy, Brent, Kelly, Jordan, Paula, and the rest of the family. Love ya Big Guy.

A gentle giant, George was one of the finest educators I have known, caring for his co-workers and his students. With a brilliant smile, he made all feel safe and secure. He is one of my favorite people of all time, and I enjoyed working with him. Thank you, Kathy and family, for sharing him with us. God did not make a better servant than George Janan.
November 08, 2013
Very sad today. When I was at Seabreeze Mr. Janan was a great role model. He use to tell me "Telfare get it together you're wasting time". I could always get great positive advice from Mr. J. God need coach and called him to the big league. Going to miss you Mr. Janan.

Men make history and not the other way around. In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better. —Harry S. Truman
George was a leader, mentor and advocate of children. How many lives did he touch, change or save? To Kathy and the entire Janan family, we wish you strength and peace. He was a fine man. We are proud to call him our friend. David and Peggy Butler

How can you not love this guy! Just look at the big smile on that face!!
I had the privilege of knowing George and family for many years, of coaching alongside him, of calling him my friend, and of watching all of our children grow up together. There is no doubt of the impact George had upon this community and the joy you felt being around him. There is no doubt of the impact he had upon so many young peoples lives, and during their lifetime, I am sure they will remember George with great fondness.George made a difference in life. George ran a great race! Praise through Jesus Christ that George is alive, and family and friends will see him again. This promise and gift was accomplished at the Cross, and George knew well the Savior of the World. So George, for now goodbye, but not for long, we are all but a shadow, and one day I will see you again my friend. My prayers for your family, for they will grieve, but you will always be a part of them.
With Love, John, Linda, Matthew and Daniel Weeks.

George's passing reminds us of how small this town can be. In recent days, I've discovered connections I never realized. I've known George since Seabreeze Jr., he graduated with my brother and I graduated with his brother (Ray). George even taught my daughter when she was at Creek. I will miss his kind heart and gentle manner. He was an angel on earth and now in heaven. Condolences to the family.
November 08, 2013
I have known George since our Seabreeze Jr. years. He had so many kind and compassionate words when my loved one passed. He has been a wonderful friend and classmate for so many years. He left us too early in life. My deepest sympathy and prayers are with Kathy and his family during this difficult times.
November 08, 2013
It is with a heavy heart learning of the passing of George. I was a classmate from elementary school through high school. I just recently heard from George, and was going to get together and remember the good ole days. Unfortunately I will not have the opportunity. God bless you George, and my deepest sympathy to the family.
November 08, 2013
Having met you at Seabreeze Junior High School and continuing our friendship for many, many years, it is hard to say good bye. You were Michael's rock when I was so sick and we will truly miss your smiling face and gentle nature when we visit Daytona Beach. You will be with us in our thoughts and your family in our prayers forever. We will see each other soon at the Big Reunion in Heaven.
November 08, 2013
Taking such a great person way too soon is proof that he was needed more to the man upstairs than all of us he has touched in one way or another. George, you will be greatly missed by all Family and Friends. RIP Big Man, Rodney Morgan...
November 08, 2013
I met George when he became friends with my brothers. He was a frequent visitor to our house. The thing that always impressed me about him, even as a young man, was the respect he showed to my parents. Thoughts and prayers to your family.
November 08, 2013
I had the pleasure of working with George at Seabreeze early in his career. He was not only great to work with, but made a lasting impact on the many students and athletes he came in contact with. We now have lost two giants in our community the past few weeks with the loss of George's dear friend, Dick Edson. The Halifax area is diminished greatly without the presence of these two "make a difference" men.
November 08, 2013
This world has lost a great husband, father, brother, son, and educator. The true impact that this man has made not only on my life but the life of everyone he came into contact with is something that can never be weighed. The value of being a great father has truly come through these last couple of days as his children have risen up, joined together and remained "Janan Strong". To a great man and a great family I just want to say I love you and I know that even though Brother George is not with us physically anymore, his faith, love and influence will remain forever. I love you George and I know I will see you again.
November 07, 2013
My husband and I met George in 1972 at the home of some dear friends. He was always such a nice man and a lot of fun as well. Our most sincere condolences and prayers for the family of George are being sent to you all. May the Lord be with you at this very sad time.
