Always smiling, even with a straight face, Skip's attitude made people smile back.
Rest in Peace Marine...now you can stand with those guarding Heaven's Scenes.
CWO-4 USMC (Ret)
Salute to Skip..........Most of you know Skip either through family, schooling, church, or the Corps of Engineers........My first contact with Skip was by a phone call he made to me in the late 70's. Skip and I as it turned out had both served in the USMC, and in VN. We were now both comissioned officers in the Illinois Army National Guard.
Skip called me to find out if I had any openings in my ILARNG rifle Company, his present Guard assignment was getting long in the tooth and he needed a breath of fresh air. Going from his position as Battalion staff officer to an XO of a rifle company, of which I had an opening for, was like jumping out of the frying pan into a very hot fire.........but Skip wanted the challenge and the new experience....... he got em. Being an XO in a rifle company, even in the NG is no easy assignment. Skip really excelled at his XO job, which was a real asset to our unit.
From our initial contact our relationship went from strictly military to civilian camping, cross country skiing, and fishing with our families. Skip and wife Terri, were always up for the next challenge, and boy did we have challenges......mostly from nature, and we learned from each adventure.
Skip will continue to be missed by all who knew and loved him, I know I am going to miss him.......big time.....saddle up buddy, your wanted at HQ.
Skip and I crossed paths often. We knew each other at SHS, even though he was a year younger. Although I never ran into him during my Marine Corps service, I'm sure we chewed some of the same dirt, from Camp Pendleton to Viet Nam. Then, I followed him to Aledo, working for Conservation. We did down a few beers and reminisce in Kankakee one evening, on a fisheries survey.
Semper Fi, Skip.

So grateful to have known you and your giving spirit!
Skip was the first boy I ever had a crush on!!!!! I was the new girl at Vachel Lindsay elementary and I think we were even too shy to say hi to each other. I am saddened by his passing, but I am a strong Christian and I know Skip is celebrating in heaven. The ones left behind it is always so hard for you.
