I like to light a candle to represent all the sunshine and light Ms.Evelyn brought into the lives of those children, teens, college students and the adults that came from Boston to Atlanta for the Civil Rights Tour. Ms. Evelyn was a beacon of Light guiding us educationally to the Civil Rights movement.

August 30, 2014
Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved one today and always. Mrs. Evelyn was a great women, I will miss her. We were called the Northern Delegation because each year I would bring more youth and adults to the civil rights tour. We were up to 15 people flying from Boston to enjoy the Civil Rights Bus Tour each March. Ms. Evelyn was so gracious to put us on the 1st bus and make sure we got back for our flight to Boston on Sunday. Words can not express how much I will miss her. I had a brain aneurysm and had to stop bringing groups but God is good and I am ready to bring a group in 2015 in honor of Ms. Evelyn. Isn't it great we have a guardian angel in heaven looking down on us.
Love Sharon Watson Beck, Boston Mass.

To the family of Mrs. Evelyn Lowery My prayers are with you at this very difficult time. A woman of valor, seek her out; she is to be valued above rubies. She opens her hand to those in need and extends her help to the poor. Adorned with strength and dignity, she faces the future cheerfully. Her speech is wise; the law of kindness is on her lips. Those who love her rise up with praise and call her blessed: "Many have done well, but you surpass them all." Charm is deceptive and beauty short-lived, but a woman loyal to God has truly earned praise. Honor her for all of her offerings; her life proclaims her praise.

With much love and deepest sympathy.

Yes, Mrs. Lowery will be missed by you all of course, but by so many others as well. I agree with Dr. Lowery, myself being a woman of faith I know she's another angel gone home to be with the Lord. I can't help but to think of the loving reception she received from God and so many other fallen soldiers of the movement such as Dr. & Mrs. King, Rev. Abernathy, Jimmie Lee Jackson, Rev. James Orange,& Rev. Hosea Williams just to name a few, as she walked though those Gates of Pearls.

Continued prayers for you and the entire Lowery family. Be encouraged.

With Love, Mary A.Thomas (MT)& Family

Rev. Joseph Lowery and Family that Mrs. Evelyn Lowery has left a Treasure Chest of
Wonderful Memories.
September 27, 2013
Though I've never met Mrs Lowery, neither have I ever met Mr Lowery. But knowing who they are and what they've done for civil rights has linked us all to them and their "collective" efforts forever.

For me, just seeing them as a "team" through documented footage and through other media avenues, I can glean how special she was to Reverend Lowery. So my heart and prayers go out to Reverend Lowery for his healing through the loss of his most precious gift.
September 27, 2013
May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.
September 27, 2013
Rev. Lowery (Dear Joe), I remember our first meeting in Florida when Wyatt took me to the annual "Saints & Sinners" golf getaway (1982?). You were so down to earth, fun-loving and with a great sense of humor, as was Evelyn's (now late) brother, Harry. Since that casual meeting, you've been supportive of me re: my practice and community efforts.

This comes to now extend my support to you and your family, with prayers for your strength during this time of sudden bereavement. Unexpected deaths seem even more painful to bear.

May you and yours be comforted by the prayers that many are sending your way, and the knowledge that Sis. Evelyn has taken her rest after a job well done. God Bless. May you cherish the great memories of the many years you shared.

LETTER FROM HEAVEN

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me

Heartfelt prayers of strength and peace to Rev. Joseph Lowery and the entire family in the passing of beloved Mrs. Evelyn Lowery. I last saw her at her husband'a side last month during a Voters Rights Rally at Ebeneezer. Mrs. Lowery is an icon in human rights activism, dignity, style and grace. She spearheaded the erection of landmarks in Alabama in tribute to civil rights workers slain during the movement. I was privileged to be one of her SCLC Women mentoring young girls in her Bridging the Gap Program. I also had the occasion to MC several of her programs including her annual Drum Major for Justice Awards. To God be the Glory for all that she has done and may her spirit rest in eternal peace.

Nature

As a fond mother, when the day is o'er,
Leads by the hand her little child to bed,
Half willing, half reluctant to be led,
And leave his broken playthings on the floor,
Still gazing at them through the open door,
Nor wholly reassured and comforted
By promises of others in their stead,
Which, though more splendid, may not please him more;
So Nature deals with us, and takes away
Our playthings one by one, and by the hand
Leads us to rest so gently, that we go
Scarce knowing if we wish to go or stay,
Being too full of sleep to understand
How far the unknown transcends the what we know.
