A great man has died and the light he has left behind will lie on the paths of all people.
I am a better person today for having the privilege of knowing Tony Tonachio. He opened my eyes and taught me many great things, but the most important thing I learned from Tony was to always be persistent. When Tony was the director of Kingston parks and recreation he had a vision for the city park & recreation system that some did not share with him. Local politicians told him it could not be done and teenage vandals cut down, broke, and destroyed the work he created. But Tony always defiant of people’s ignorance applied for grants and repaired the damage to create what has become the grand jewel of Kingston Tennessee, the Fort South West Fort reconstruction project and walk way along the waterfront system. This is just one of hundreds of great accomplishments conducted in Tony’s lifetime. Fortunately, I was a first hand witness to this one small chapter in Tony’s life, and I can only pray that his example will continue to influence the way I continue to live my life today.
You will be missed,
