Ever know a man who was built strong as an ox, but also smart enough to figure anything out? Study and solve any problem, always seeing what was possible, and never considering anything impossible? Someone who could do just about anything he set his mind to?

My hero was someone who's athletic ability was stunning to watch. He could hit a golf ball. A mile. And a baseball. A mile. Someone who if he wasn't fishing, was hunting. Or sharpshooting. Or sailing, or swimming or snorkeling, spearfishing, diving, bodysurfing, running, weightlifting or just about anything else athletic he could think of, with this boundless energy, god-given skill and strength and this wonderful inability to sit still. And all that wasnt even half the man.

He could and always did lead by example, his word was his bond. And while that may sound as a cliche to some, it was a badge of honor to him. He was proud and humble, decent and kind. He was honest to a fault, and once you proved yourself to him, his fierce loyalty meant he would always have your back. Always. If you were his friend, you were his friend for life. Dedicated and true and hard working, he still always made time to help a friend in need and was still always the first one there for family. And he had only friends - there were no enemies - he was impossible not to like.

He was a best friend, a teacher, a mentor and a guide, always with a handshake strong and firm and true. He could tell a story as well as anyone, and even if I'd heard it before I'd listen again, and the stories were the fabric of the man, and became a part of me.

I miss you, Dad. What I wouldnt give to shake your hand just one more time, give you a hug, listen to story and say thank you for all you given me, and given all of us.

Rest in peace, I love you. You were, are, and always be my hero.

Will - or as mom would call me, Honorable Son #3.

Condolences, Will, to you and the entire Hallett Family. If he was responsible for the man you are today, he was indeed, as great a man as you described.
