Dan Smith was the Int'l Student Advisor when I attended Gulf Coast Community College in the late 70s. He made us feel at home when we did not know a single soul in Panama City.. We were int'l students from Iran. At the time, the unfortunate hostage crisis was going on. Dan was human enough to know we had nothing to do with it and we dispised is as much as anyone. One day he called us an said "If anybody harassed you, call the sheriff dept. right away, I've notified them and asked to protect you all." He was a caring, loving and giving human being. I kept in touch with Dan for 36 years. Every year we exchanged Chrismas cards for 36 years.. Until last time when Faith called me and said Dan can no longer communicate and told me what had happened.
I will always cherish the memories of this great man until the last day of my life. Thank you Dan for everything you did for me and many many people like me. My life is richer because of you. Sina John Sadri

Dan was a great friend to my day(Frank Eiseman)long after they left the college. When my dad was diagnosed with Parkinsons, Dan would visit with him for hours and they would talk about the college days. He would help my mom with things she needed done...he was such a special person. I have such great memories of him. Sending prayers and love to the family.

Dan was one of the first people I got to know at the college when I came to Panama City 37 years ago. We shared many a laugh and story, as well as keeping each other awake at endless committee meetings. He was a caring, sweet person whom I shall never forget. The world is a little colder without him in it.
