I just learned today of Gene's death. What a loss to Fairbanks. Gene was a gentleman and a scholar, a brilliant yet humble man who gave generously of himself to his fellow man.He was the sort of "character" who would be immortalized by Charles Dickens if he were alive today. I always enjoyed my visits with Gene and appreciated his legal advice. His was an enlightened soul. Rest in peace, Gene.

I worked for Gene for a few years when I was a girl (early 80's?). I ran errands for him dropping off documents at the courthouse etc., and helping in the office. I must of picked up more than a dozen bear claw donuts for him at that donut place near the river. What a good man. He taught me quite a bit. I wish I could have seen him once more. My father, Fred S. was a good friend of Gene. I remember when I was in AK visiting my dad, who rented the apt. above Gene's office and Gene let me be his personal secretary for a day. I remember that to this day. That was 30 years ago...RIP Gene...I will echo your words as I live by them: "If you love your job, you will never work a day in your life..."

Mr. Belland helped our family with many property issues. I had the chance to meet and work with him at the Recorders office. He would light up the office with his presence and quick wit. I miss him and his lil dog Betsy Rose. He was In his job for others. And very organized In his own way.

I bought a residence from a retired Army Colonel (WWII Vintage) in the 90's. We always looked forward to our meetings, or better, visits to Gene's office. Years later when the old Colonel had passed, Gene mailed to me his death notice. What a wonderful, thoughtful man.
I often felt a twinge of guilt having paid so little. The fine conversation and history lessons were worth more than the price of admission.

I'll never forget sitting in his "organized" office and a person walked in off the street and asked Mr. Belland if he had any extra money - Mr. Belland told him to go out and sweep the walkway. When completed the man came back in and Mr. Belland gave him a cup of coffee and some cash from his cigar box cash register and said to the man "Honest pay for honest work. Now move along - I have work to do".
Thank you Mr. Belland for all the help and advise.

So sorry to hear about Eugene Bellands passing. I haven't seen Eugene for many years, yet he is someone you will always remember. He touched everyones life in one way or another. And yes he certainly knew where your file was in all those piles. His presense and kindness will always be remembered.

I was introduced to Mr. Belland by my older brother, John Turner. when I first bought property in Fbks in the mid-80's. He said, " here's a lawyer worth meeting". Turned out the sellers also were clients of Eugene, easiest transaction I have ever made. My brother passed many years ago, but Mr Belland remembered me immediately last year when I walked back in to sell same property, 30 years later. Went straight to original file while I got some loving from his faithful companion, Betsey Rose. Of course I had to force him to accept my payment. God Bless You Mr. Belland! R.I.P.

He was a teriffic guy. Back in the 80's I'd go over sometimes in the evening and we listened to some talk radio and just chatted.

Goodbye, Mr. Belland! You will always be remembered and appreciated for the help that you extended to us over the past few years.
There's not many attorney's offices that have a sign over the sofa "Please don't sit on Betsy Rose".

Gene was a wonderful man that helped me on many occasions. He was always congenial and professional. I will miss him a lot.

Eugene's obituary captured his personality like no other that I've ever read. He was a pleasure to deal with and very generous. Fairbanks has lost an absolute one of a kind that won't be replaced. We'll always remember his unique greeting style when answering the phone.

So long to an absolute one of a kind. What a pleasure to have known him and dealt with him from time to time. We too, as others, was as proud as he was of his filing system. Our sympathy to his family. He will be missed by all.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mister Gene just a few short years before he gave up his practice. I too was amazed at his office and how he'd deftly go from one pile to the next. His fingerprints must be on 3/4 of the deeds in Salcha! And what a gentleman, a sweetheart, and old-time Fairbanksan. It was a pleasure to work with you, even in that brief moment in time.

Eugene "GENE" Belland was a class act for and attorney. He accomplished a property contract for us, right after he'd been diagnosed. He didn't believe he was terminal, even tho his care giver stated if it was to be something on going, we might need to seek another professional. Eugene continued his file for myself and a friend, it took a few hours but was able to enjoy his dog friend "Betsy Rose". Mr. Belland was the nicest man I believe I'd ever met. He will be soo missed in the community I'm sure. God Bless His family and may heaven have a special place for him. Gone but not forgotten. R.I.P. Eugene Belland and Betsy Rose too.

As someone who has practiced in Fairbanks for a sliver of Gene's career, I can tell you that Gene has left a void that will not be filled. There is not anyone you can send clients to get simple forms prepared correctly and economically. I never had any client say anything but great things about Gene's work and professionalism.

Gene will be greatly missed. I cherish the few years I worked for him and appreciated all he taught me about real estate. We had some great local volleyball games in his yard and later in life he proved to be an excellent tennis player.. We all LOVED Gene!!

A man with a good heart, some good tales, and great legal consult. He was honest, fair and had integrity, a fitting example for all lawyers to practice. I am thankful to meet, enjoy, and give him patronage while living in the grand city of Fairbanks.

I knew Gene for over 40 years and used his services many times. It always amazed me how he knew just where to find your file in all the stakes of files that were in his office and the cat that walked across his desk and papers while he was working, never chasing the cat away. He will be missed. May God be with him and his loved ones.

Gene Belland was a trusted and very ethical individual and was our family's attorney for many years. I always enjoyed talking with him. He was amazing how he could just walk to a pile of papers and pull out your file. Our town needs more people like Gene. May you rest in peace.
April 21, 2013
Like many others I visited Gene from time to time, sometimes 4 or 5 years apart. He always remembered me, where my files were (wow) and managed to have something interesting to talk about. I remember that long cigarette ash hovering over the copier as he worked. He was one of a kind.

Yuki, I'm so sorry for your loss. Visiting with Gene now and then was always a great experience, not just for his legal talents but for how I felt when in his presence, like he had nothing else to do but attend to my needs and visit with me.
