Former Fairbanks resident, Irene Boddy Peterson, 95, passed away Jan. 28, 2013, at her home at Claremont East Retirement Apartments in Bremerton, Wash.
The fourth child and only daughter of August and Mary (Minks) Milbrandt, Irene Dorothy was born Jan. 24, 1918, in Princeton, Minn.
She came to Fairbanks in 1941, where she met and married Dan Boddy in 1944. He died in the Good Friday Earthquake, March 27, 1964, while on a temporary hauling job - he was on the dock in Valdez waiting to be loaded with construction materials from the cargo ship, Chena.
Irene moved her family to Seattle, that summer.
While in Fairbanks, she was a legal secretary, working for Maurice Johnson and Henry Camarot. For a short time, she and Dan operated a laundry on First Avenue in the basement of Gene Immel's Studebaker garage.
She continued her legal secretarial career in Seattle, retiring shortly after her marriage to David Peterson in 1977. She and Dave built a log home on the Olympic Peninsula overlooking Puget Sound where they enjoyed the critters visiting their yard and the ships passing by.
They also enjoyed traveling, and in 2002 they sold their home and moved into Claremont East. Dave passed away June 22, 2005.
In addition to her husbands, Irene was preceded in death by her parents and brothers. She is survived by daughters, Sylvia Gillings and Nancy Boddy; son, Michael Boddy (Vicki); step-daughters, Sandra Forbes (Dan) and Susan Mobley (Ron); five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren; and her many friends at Claremont.
A celebration of life was held at Claremont East on Feb. 2, 2013.
