Words cannot describe the sheer emptiness and sorrow I feel regarding the death of drummer, Alan Myers. Alan was instrumental in my education as a drummer and motivated me to keep practicing and experimenting as I perfected my craft. His unique style and mechanical precision defined the Devo sound and influenced an entire generation of young drummers, including myself. Furthermore, he was responsible for introducing me to jazz drumming and the incredible style of Elvin Jones. To state simply that he was the drummer of Devo does his memory injustice. He was an extremely talented drummer who loved the primitive essence of percussion, whether it was the electronic beats of later Devo records or keeping time on pots and pans with Skyline Electric. His drumming was the definition of the eclectic cavemen. Although, I never had the fortune of meeting him, he has played an integral role in my life, and my heart is deeply saddened. My condolences and sympathy go out to his family, Devo, and the multitude of loyal Devo fans who awed at his brilliance over the years. Duty Now For the Future and Thank you Alan, may you Rest In Peace.
