As a "Square" extra in the movie "Cry Baby" back in 1989 I remember when I first saw her in costume I thought "Wow now SHE's an ORIGINAL." She carried that film, and that speaks volumes. How sad I didn't get to know her here in Austin. RIP.
My Father, Norman Alden, worked with Susan in the film I Never Promised You a Rose Garden. My father died Friday and while looking at his obituary in the Hollywood Reporter I saw that Susan had died recently also. She was such a great talent. I remember watching her in Rose Garden when I was a little girl. I was so moved by her performance. As an adult I enjoyed her in many other roles including Cry Baby. Every time I saw her face on the screen I knew I was going to be moved. Hollywood has indeed suffered a great loss.
An extraordinary talent. A unique visionary fueled with fierce and unstoppable energy. A true Legend in every sense of the word. Raise hell and save me a place at the bar Susu cause I'm gonna need a drink and a cigarette when I get there and I can't think of anyone cooler to do shots with... with Respect & love always, j

You were an extremely entertaining lady and I fondly remember your performances that I caught through the years. RIP
Her uniqueness gave me permission to find my own unbeaten path; her bravery helped me to accept my own disabilities. I watched her light from a distance since the 60s, and feel sorry for....the whole damn world. It's people like Susan Tyrrell that made the planet spin, and showed us why it was important to hang on for the ride.
May the Father of tender mercies be with the family during these difficult days.
May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.
I lost all respect for the Oscars after Susan didn't receive what she so deserved for her work in Fat City. To say she was brilliant would be an understatement. My condolences to her family and all who loved and respected her fine work. We've lost someone great.
such a talented lady she will be missed.
To the the family of Susan Tyrrell - May God give you peace and comfort through his word and the Lord Jesus Christ during this time of sorrow, I know that she will be missed by many.
Having given one of the most riveting and naturalistic performances I have seen in Fat City (where is that Oscar!), I always looked forward to seeing Susan Tyrrell in any venue. A sad loss.
Please accept my condolences and may the God of all comfort give you peace.
I met Susu when i cast her in a tv show in 1981. She was out of her comfort level but forged ahead with humor, dignity, outrageousness, incredible talent and always an interesting point of view. She is and was an original and I am deeply saddened by the news of her passing.
She was a brilliant actress and an intuitive, caring person.
god bless you susan, RIP god always takes the best. xoxo
So very sad. She was a daring actress, not afraid to take off-beat roles and put her heart and soul into them.
Merely by chance, I was watching "Fat City" just last evening. She deserved an Oscar.
MY SYMPATHY GOES OUT TO HER FAMILY! I MET Ms. SUSU TYRELL, SOMETIME BACK IN CALIFORNIA, AND AGAIN IN AUSTIN, SHE WAS A VERY SWEET PERSON! WE ALL WILL MISS HER!

Words might not heal the pain of losing a loved one. May God's blessings and memories of your loved one give you the comfort, peace and strength you need during these sorrowful times.(Isaiah 61:2)
What an awesome actress! She made her roles unforgettable, and that's hard to do in Hollywood!
