To the family of Jessica Rekos, First let me express my deepest sympathy to you upon the tragic death of your precious one. I have written a poem in memory of your darling Jessica, and pray that in some small way it will give you a bit of peace and comfort. My prayers and thoughts are with you during this most difficult season of your life.
In Memory of Jessica Rekos
May 10, 2013
On December 14, 2012, Jessica was heaven bound
Where 'real' cowgirl boots and a real cowgirl hat she quickly found.
And there stood Jesus with his arms out stretched, by the heavenly gate
She ran straight to His arms and didn't hesitate.
There were her many friends from Sandy Hook School
With their wings and halos she thought they looked really cool.
She saw books on horses and horse movies as well
Oh, and the pictures to draw and the horse stories to tell.
But her excitement grew to an all time high
Realizing she didn't have to be ten to own a horse to ride.
If only her family could see her, especially Travis and Shane
Perhaps they could help give her horse a name.
However, in heaven when you own your own horse
There are certain responsibilities, of course.
Jessica's so happy riding her horse around heaven all day
But the 'heavenly' horses need brushing, watering, and a daily fare of hay.
With lots of experience as the family CEO
She has no trouble getting help, even from angels; she's definitely in the know.
So when you look up in the sky and a bright star winks at you
Thank God for your precious little girl even though the years with her were few.
And when your heart is breaking and you feel you can't bear it another second
Bow your head in prayer and you can feel Him beckon.
When your burden feels so heavy and you're not sure what to do
When there's only one set of footprints; that's when He's carrying you.
So bow your head in the most earnest prayer and say
"Thank you, dear God, 'ere the time be so short for sending her my way!"
Happy birthday, Jessica!
