It has been my honor and privilege to have known all of Mr. and Mrs. Foley's amazing childern as friends -- first Sean, who accepted me when I was new in town and made me feel at home in New Fairfield; then Kevin, who is one of my closest friends and who has been fiercely loyal to me and taught me so much that I know he learned directly from his dad and mom; and then Brenda, whom I saw grow from my kid sister's little friend with braces into an inspiringly successful woman, mother and doctor. I also had the good fortune to get to know John and Nicole through the years, just as much a sibling to them all.
At the service, I thought to myself, "I wish Mr. Foley could have been there on the hundreds of occassions when his children told me stories about him: about how honorable, loyal, funny and unique he was." And then it occurred to me that of course Mr. Foley knew his children thought about him that way, and he knows all those stories now.
I wish them all and their families, and Mrs. Foley, deepest sympathy and consolation during this difficult time. But I consider myself blessed to have known Mr. Foley and his wife through their children, and seeing Mr. and Mrs. Foley's grandchildren running around after the service gave me comfort to know that his memory and the values he passed on to his children will be handed down to theirs.
God bless and a hug to you all....
