I knew Sgt. Bair from Hawaii. He was a great guy. Always making everyone laugh. I'll never forget when the guys deployed and how he always made sure to keep the guys spirits up. He will never be forgotten.

Patti, We are so sorry to hear of your loss. No words can express how we feel, I remember seeing the picture in the paper and it was that same face I remember from years ago in the neighborhood when the kids were little. Matthew may you rest in peace and thank you for your service.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to SSG Matthew E. Bair our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Matthew. And to Matthew it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for his service in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedoms and for the selfless sacrifices he made for his country while serving with the U.S. Army. No greater love and patriotism is shown than a man dedicate his life in service to his country. Matthew, you are a brave Army Warrior and a true Patriot. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Matthew's family and loved ones.
