Roger Clavette Obituary

"I'M GONE!" HARBESON - Roger J. Clavette, devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather, passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016 at Beebe Healthcare. He was surrounded by his loving family. A New York native, Roger was born to Albert and Irene (DuPree) Clavette on Oct. 24, 1939 in Yonkers. He grew up and attended school in Somers, NY where he was also a member of the Fire Department. Roger studied mechanical engineering at Manhattan College and trained with the Reserve Officers' Training Corps. Roger had a notable career in the upholstery business spanning more than 57 years, which started with his father refurbishing automobiles. He taught his trade at Lincoln Hall, a reformatory school for wayward boys, through a special program with the New York City Board of Education. As a self-employed individual, Roger moved his business and family to Delaware in 1982 and was actively involved in his business till his passing. As a member of Rotary since 1964, Roger made many friends all over the world. Roger served as District Governor from 1994-1995 and received many awards over the years. He was the President of the Brewster, NY and Georgetown-Millsboro, DE Clubs. His accolades include Rotarian of the Year, Rotary International Service Above Self Award, Paul Harris Fellowship Award, and the Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service. Roger enjoyed NASCAR, gardening, clamming and crabbing, and spending time with his grandchildren. He always had a smart remark to make about one thing or another. Many people enjoyed great conversations with him, and they received his opinion on matters whether they wanted it or not. Roger is survived by his wife Janette (Spranzman) Clavette of 54 years; his four children, Jeff and wife Stacy, Cheryl Yadach and husband Rich, Jon and wife Sherry, and Cynthia; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Jr., Kayla, Justin, Tyler, Alexandra, and Abigail; and a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly. Visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street, Milton. A private burial will take place at the Harbeson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Rotary International www.rotary.org

Janette and family,

Thinking of you and your family at this difficult time. Roger's contributions to Rotary, both at his club, district, and international levels brought both wisdom and humor. The members and friends at the Georgetown-Millsboro Rotary Club will miss him. We were very fortunate to have him in our club. What a lasting legacy he has left for all to follow.

Roger was a good friend and one of the most dedicated Rotarians I have ever known. He was a mentor and wealth of Rotary information. I was blessed to have enjoyed his friendship for nearly 30 years. "Well done, good and faithful servant."

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any mans death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
