My heartfelt condolences and prayers for the Rivera family. May God grant solace during this most challenging time. With Love & Prayers
November 20, 2017
Jim was my baseball idol and model growing up, and throughout my life. What a lucky kid I was to have Jim care about a kid he originally did not know. I saw him many times at games at Comiskey Park, he always took the time to invite me to the locker room before games, gave me autographed balls of the team, sat me in the dugout, got me tickets for the first game of the 1959 World Series, always got me special tickets to sit in the photo cages at the park, and even took me to the Yankees dugout after a Yankess game. He didn't have to do that, but that was the kind and generous player he was, and we continued our friendship at Captains Cabin, when each New Year's
Eve he threw a special party for current and ex White Sox players. I am the first to admit to the impact of athletic role models, and what an influence they have on your entire life, not just as a kid. In addition, at that time Jim was married to Phyllis who used to write letters to me on his behalf, and little did I know that when I attended Columbia University that I was not too far from his NYC boyhood home on 112th Street. My condolences to the Rivera family, his many friends, White Sox fans who loved to watch Jim play and to the Fort Wayne and Angoloa areas where Captains Cabin became the social activity for many. Jim, you will be missed and rest in peace, but we will all have the memories, not only of a hard playing baseball athlete, but a giganitic human being as well.

My heartfelt condolences and prayers to the family of Jim Rivera. Psalms 90: 10 shows how he lived a long life of special mightiness from God. Keep his many memories close in your hearts and minds and cherish them forever. May the comfort of God be with you all during this time of grief.
