URKEVIC, JOSEPH Joseph Urkevic of Cheshire died on Sunday, November 10 at CT Hospice in Branford. He was the husband of 58 years of Barbara Hebert Urkevic of Cheshire. He is the father of Brian Urkevic (wife Kathy) and Dr. Jan Urkevic (wife Lisa), both of Milton, MA; Leslie Klarman (husband John) of Branford and Jamie Urkevic of Cheshire. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Jean Urkevic and his sisters Helen Shoby and Michelina Janisaitis. Joe was born in Waterbury on July 24, 1926, a son of Walter and Michelina Urkevic. He grew up in Waterbury and after graduating from Crosby High School entered into the U.S. Air Force. After being discharged from the Air Force, he attended the University of Connecticut where he graduated with a degree in Chemistry. He was Director of Urke Medical Lab in Naugatuck for over 40 years. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, the New York Giants, and the UCONN Men’s & Women’s Basketball Teams. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. The W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St., Branford is in care of arrangements.
