We will all miss Art. We are sorry to be missing his services. He's best known as a police officer and consummate clammer, of course. But as Shellfish Warden and Harbormaster, I truly got to know him as the ultimate "clam man." He always made us smile. RIP, my friend.

When I was around 10 Artie live across from my parents on North Street. He was the Youth Officer, there was so many kids in that neighborhood and we'd all wait for him to come home and hang out with him. He'd take the older boys to the shooting range. Always had a kind word and a great smile for us. When I got older I'd run into him here or there and we'd always talk and laugh about those times....He was one of the good guys in town....Great memories...Sorry for your loss....

Artie was the best sergeant I ever worked with and the best any cop could want. Supportive, patient, friendly, guiding and fair. When I totalled his unmarked car in 1975, , he simply said "Try to be more careful with Town property". If we messed up, he would straighten us out, with no grudges. A stickler for reports, he would put up with our constant whining about having to do an "03". Arties seafaring adventures were always exciting (his harrowing escape from the sinking of the Teal; a classic sea story) a great sergeant, a fantastic friend. As Artie would say: "Well, we had a good run"

God Bless, YO
