MARION BRADLEY Obituary

BRADLEY, MARION (DOODY) Marion (Doody) Bradley aged 87 years of North Branford passed away August 13, 2014. She was born July 31, 1927 in New Haven to Daniel M. and Carrie (Goodrich) Doody. She is preceded in death by parents, husband, George F. Bradley, son, Dr. Martin Bradley and brother, Daniel Doody. Marion is survived by her three loving sons: George Bradley (Patrice) of County Galway, Ireland, Paul Bradley (Deborah) of North Branford and Kevin Bradley (Pam) of West Haven. Marion is also survived by six grandsons, one granddaughter, one great grandson, sister, Dr. Agnes Doody of Wakefield, RI and daughter-in-law, Michelle Derba Bradley of Hooksett, NH. She also leaves many great relatives and friends. Marion grew up in North Branford and was active at an early age in farming. This interest lasted a lifetime with her as an active member of the Totoket Grange #83 and a member of the Pomona, State and National Grange organizations. She served as Master and in various other positions on both the local and state level. She was a graduate of Connecticut State Teachers College. Her love of reading led to a position as a reporter and then Editor for the North Branford Review. She returned to teaching as her sons grew up. Her joy in teaching and especially the teaching of Reading saw her become a Reading Specialist from 1972-1988 and Chair of the English Department in the North Branford High School from 1977-1988. She also started a book collection program that allowed for donated books to be passed on to disadvantaged schools in the New Haven area. Marion was also a lifelong bell collector as well as local History enthusiast. She wrote Our Soldiers, an account of the civil war soldiers of North Branford, CT, which was published by the Totoket Historical Society. Marion enjoyed traveling and experiencing different cultures. Finally, it should be noted that her favorite pleasure was spending time with her grandchildren and teaching them about life’s treasures. Family will receive friends from 3 to 6 pm, Sunday, August 17, 2014 at the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Funeral procession will leave Clancy Funeral Home on Monday at 9:40 am for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Main Street, Branford. Committal to follow at All Saints Cemetery in North Haven. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Brookhaven Hospice of New Hampshire Butterfly Fund, mail to 6 Beech St. Framingham, Ma. 01702 or to Alzheimer’s Association CT Chapter, mail to 2075 Silas Deane Highway Rocky Hill, Ct. 06067, in memory of Marion Bradley. www.ClancyFuneralHome.com

George, Paul, Kevin and Bradley family. My deepest sympathy for your mom, whom I also considered a friend. Ultimately, this is a probably a blessing but she will be missed and remembered as a very fine and dear person.

Buddy and I were so sorry to hear of Marion's passing. She was a great friend and mentor to me. She really inspired me to be the best teacher I could be.
The last time I saw her, she remembered me but not my name. I think she would have been very amused that I have retired to South Carolina, the land of Lindsey Graham!
Buddy and I have many fond memories of Marion. We will be making a donation to fight the same awful disease that took my mother 10 years ago.
Sincerely,
Gail Bevins Baer
