I will always remember Russ' kindness to me from the day I met him. He and his wife Irene opened thier home to me and my young family many times. Always enjoyed listening to Russ talk about the war. He was very proud of his service in the 410th Squadron, 94th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force. I always learned something from him and he always spoke with reverence of those men he knew who did not survive. He loved Big Band music, model trains and making model aircraft and vehicles. There was never a dull moment when you visited Russ and Irene. They were among the people I dreaded to leave behind when we moved to Pennsylvania. I will always remember you Russ and always miss you. To me you will always be a hero. Rest in peace my Friend and may God's angels welcome you to His kingdom and wrap your family in His love.

I'm so sorry to hear of Russ' passing. I'll always remember him for his crazy practical jokes like putting his full-size thermos into the school file cabinet and pulling out the tiny doll-size one (his daughter's) and trying to convince his students it was an "amazing shrinking machine".
Over several years Russ car-pooled with me to work at East Rock School so I got to hear his repertoire of jokes...as did the many other teachers at the school..we began to name them "joke # 23, or # 41 since we heard them so often. And how he loved to make Big Band mix tapes...often staying up very late at night working on them, especially if a snow-day was predicted. Uh oh..no snow, poor Russ came to work a bit over tired. And when my mother's senior group couldn't afford a d-jay for their Christmas party he made a wonderful tape of 30's-40's music for them to dance to...they loved it!
He was a wonderful guy and will be greatly missed.
Russ, enjoy the big bands up there in heaven,
with affection, Lois

To Irene and Family,
I will always look back and smile at the many years Russ and I taught together at the Rock. He always made each day pass in an enjoyable way.
Fondly, Mary and Harry
