FRANKLIN - Joan Rita Gaba (Kovach), 77, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at Newton Medical Center following a brief battle with cancer. She was born to Joseph and Ann Kovach Sept. 13, 1936, in Franklin. Mrs. Gaba was a lifelong resident of Franklin.
Mrs. Gaba worked as a secretary for American Cyanamid in Wayne for 15 years and then worked as a secretary for Sussex County Community College in Newton for 10 years before retiring in 2000. She was an active parishioner, member of the Rosary Society and helped run the CCD program for Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, Franklin. She was a member of the Franklin Historical Society, the Franklin Senior Citizens and the Frankford Township Senior Citizens. Mrs. Gaba also served with the Franklin Board of Elections for more than 30 years. Mrs. Gaba was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Edward M. Gaba Sr. (2002), and is the devoted mother of Karen Gaba and her significant other, Joe, of Treasure Island, Fla., Edward M. Gaba Jr. and his wife, Kristen, of Poconos, Pa., and Joseph Gaba of Chatham. Loving grandmother of Carly, Amanda and Andrew Gaba. The family will receive their friends at F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, One Main St., Franklin, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22. Funeral from the funeral home will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23. Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, Franklin, at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Hardyston. Memorial gifts to Research at the Sparta Division of Regional Cancer Care Associates, 89 Sparta Ave., Suite 130, Sparta, NJ 07871 would be appreciated.
