I met the man after a performance of "The Gates Of Justice", performed on the campus of Oakland University, Rochester, MI, 1968.
The show took place in the university gym, as the school had no proper place, at the time, to present music concerts.
Dave could even swing in a gym, and I don't mean on the parallel bars.
My Mom was in the university chorus at the time, so, getting a ticket was easy.
I have been a fan since the age of 11, when my 6th grade teacher introduced me to the "Time Out" album.
I was able to meet Dave, Jack Six, & Alan Dawson, after the show.
I was so exited , you'd have thought I was meeting the Beatles or Hendrix.
The entire Jazz world is light by one pianist.
May God's love sustain the family at this time of grieving.
