I met Alan through our mutual friend at Tulane undergrad, Glen Hedgpeth, who had the great idea of getting together a group to sing Christmas carols. Alan had been in the TU choir with Glen. We did this for a few Christmases and had so much fun, under the very able leadership of Marshall Clyburn, that we also would get together to learn and sing madrigals and other vocal 4-part music, at least one year. It was a happy time. I will always fondly recall those evenings around a piano making beautiful harmonies and going house to house during the holidays. Alan and Carolyn were often host and hostess for the rehearsals. Thank you, Alan, and everyone who sang or listened in that lost and happy time. Especially during the Christmas holidays.

Alan - There is no way to truly describe you. When I learned of your passing my life changed. You have always been a friend and available. I remember meeting you thru Jay and Gloria and later taking your class at Delgado. Your design work was unbelievable. I remember fishing and hunting with you for many years. You were always ready to go, always had unique equipment and always had successful trips. The people that you knew was also always impressive. There was no circle in New Orleans that you were not a part of in some round about way. Your recollections of early life in Gentilly was reminiscent. My best experience of getting to know you was during my time of divorce. We had such similar experiences that few others could share. Your survival and success in raising two very fine sons was one of your most outstanding achievements. Without your insight and willingness to always lend an ear, I know would have made my journey almost impossible. Thank you for being a friend. Glynda was always amazed when we hung out together and I know we will always remember and miss you.
So long for now my friend.

The image that first comes to mind when I think of Alan is his expression of his quirky and (to me!) very entertaining sense of humor. He was so joyful when he got on a roll with some of his unique observations and vocal gymnastics, it was delightful to be around. We were musical partners in The Uptights, and shared many rewarding musical, personal, and performance moments. I will always miss my friend and my brother -- Alan.

From those who knew your heart, dear friend...See you on that old golden shore.

I met Alan---his nickname was Arnie in those days---in the Tulane U Choir. We became buddies and for a short, happy time, sweethearts. I left New Orleans for the adventurous life I wanted. Some years back I realized that I hadn't really appreciated his special genius and tried unsuccessfully to get in touch with him. His phenomenal creativity with everyday life will always be with me. Every day his joyful, luminous words come to mind. I loved him more than I knew. Rest well, dearest Arnie, and come back glowing!

So many memories have been spawned with Alan's passing. Alan was a member of the "Avengers", a band organized in the late 60's with some very good friends, Ernie Chassaniol, Gary Gonzales and Mark Baldwin (now deceased). A young band they were, but all very talented artist. I remember the parties, practices at Mark Baldwin's home on Gentilly Blvd. and of course, "The Battle of the Bands" at Gentilly Woods Shopping Center". Always well liked, Alan will truly be missed by all that new him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends that the memories made will fill the void and heal the hearts at this time and in future days to come.

In attempting to summarize fifty years of friendship with Alan,

I'm happy to report, he made me laugh.

I am saddened by his departure."

A life well lived, my dearest Alan. The charm of your company was like none other with your quick wit, thoughtful listening, and deeply loving soul. As I watched your eyes and mind dance, I was truly awed and grateful to have a friend like you. Peace and blessings, Alan, my sweet, generous friend.
