Trooper Rickmeier made the world a better place, and he was an example of what an exemplary human being can be and do. His caring demonstrated to the less fortunate and sick children at Tulane University will always be remembered. He brought laughter and happiness to so many children and adults when making the Santa rounds at Tulane University Pediatrics during the Christmas party held each year, and we all looked forward to his visits, and we will miss him.

I met Alan when I first started working for MADD about 13 years ago, he always told the best stories. Funny things always seemed to happen to him and it was the way he told the story that made it even funnier. He was always so good to the victims and when he testified in court he was always spot on and no one could question his sincerity and work. He was someone you could trust and believe in. I'm so very sorry for the loss to all who knew him and to his sweet wife and loving daughter I think you know how much everyone loved him. There are no words that can help but I'm praying for you. It was an honor to know him, he will be missed.

I am so thankful for the 30 years I have been married to such a good man. A day didn't go by without him telling me how much he loved Melissa and me. He would always tell me how lucky he was to have me, but I was the lucky one! I will cherish the memories we made and the lessons he taught me. His suffering is over and he is at peace. He will be missed every moment of every day.

Joan, Melissa & the Rickmeier Family,
You are in our thoughts & prayers. I will always remember the fond memories of the good times we had in high school & as we went our separate ways we still kept in touch on a regular basis. His phone calls just to say Hi & visits when he came back to Wisconsin were always a hoot ~ Al was one of my best buddies even though we were miles away. My friend I didn't get to say good bye~I can only say Godspeed My Friend & a good one you were. I am privileged & proud to have called you my friend & the memories will always be a part of my life. You had a heart of gold & that is the one thing I will always remember. I will miss you my friend!

Rickmeier was my primary training officer. He was very kind towards myself and others. There was not a day that passed that he did not make me laugh. I will really miss him. Our lost is heaven's gain. When I first got to Troop B Alan says Mike you know you have to go to choir practice with us because its just what we do.. I said so do I really have to sing. He said yes, its all apart of being a Louisiana State Trooper You'll see. So I show up to the predetermine location ready to sing..LOL and there are a plenty troopers just hanging out. I found out that day that Choir practice was another phrase for a gathering outside of work. This guy kept everybody laughing. Great person.

Words cannot express the love that I have for Alan, Joanie and Melissa. Not only were we neighbors but good friends. I am so thankful that all those years ago God helped you find your way to Harahan. Alan was a very thoughtful, loving, caring person. He helped his neighbors by cutting their grass (just wished I lived a little closer!!)I'm going to miss seeing Alan riding his bike with no shirt on just shorts and his flip flops. Not a worry in the world!! I'm so thankful I spent time with you the other day on your swing. I love u Alan Rickmeier!!

Dear Joanie and Melissa,
My sympathies are with both of you for your loss of Alan. I am so sorry for your loss. It's not only your loss but mine and Troop B's too. I have had the greatest opportunity to not only know Alan but to become friends with him over the last 23 years. See I started my career in Law Enforcement in the late eighties with the Harahan Police. That is where I first met Alan and learned that he was all about helping people and doing the right thing. I then left and became a State Trooper and a few years later Alan joined the State Police. I learned so much from Alan over the years and he was always there for me. Alan could take a bad situation and turn it into a positive situation just by the way he respected others. Alan has touched so many people.
I saw Alan a few days before he passed and I'm so glad I had the opportunity to tell him that I love him. I know Alan is looking down right now with a big smile. How lucky I am to have known someone who is so hard to say goodbye to. Alan Rickmeier I will miss you dearly. Rest in Peace Brother. Joanie and Melissa you're both in my prayers.

God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be
So he put His arms around you
And whispered "Come to me."
With tearful eyes we watched you
As you slowly slipped away
And though we loved you dearly
We couldn't make you stay.
Your golden heart stopped beating
Your tired hands put to rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
Trooper Rickmeier was such a wonderful Man. Every time he came to the office, he would keep us Laughing. So sorry for the loss of such amazing Man. My Thoughts and Prayers are with all of you.

My deepest sympathy to Mrs Joanie and Melissa on the passing of Alan. I got the pleasure last Christmas of being santa's "Mrs Claus". When the thought of it was first brought up to me I thought they were crazy. Alan was tickled pink and said the kids at the hospital would love it. He was all about the kids enjoyment when it came to Christmas time. When we showed up at Children's Hospital all the kids came running to both of us filled with excitement. It brought tears to my eyes. Alan whispered to me, you see how much this means to these kids. That day was truly memorable and unforgettable. Whoever takes his place has some tough boots to fill. He was always a blast to be around. I am going to miss the side window of the radio room opening with him saying, hey my darlin' what ya got to eat back there. He will forever be in our hearts.

Eileen and I extend our sincere sorrow for your loss. Alan was a legend around Troop "B" from the moment he arrived. After working with Alan, it certainly didn't take me long to recognize the family values instilled in the Rickmeier family. Anyone who ever attended an LSTA function, are who was around during Hurricane Katrina knows of Alan's caring and understanding ways. During his State Police career as well as after his very short retirement Alan remained dedicated to the State Police and the citizens of Louisiana.
I have known Alan for the past 20 plus years and I can only imagine the grief the Rickmeier family will undoubtedly endure in the times ahead. Please know that Eileen and I will keep your family in our prayers and we certainly will keep Alan's memory alive in our hearts.
