Celesia Perry Ferrand, transitioned from labor to reward on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at the age of 59 surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of Evelyn Brooks Alexander and the late Alonzo Perry, Sr. and stepdaughter of the late Richard Alexander. She is survived by her husband, Charles Ferrand, 3 siblings Kenneth Perry, Darlene Perry Parks, and Sylvia Alexander. She was also blessed with 4 children, Nicole Sheppard, Peter Sheppard, IV, Sumor Sheppard and Imanni Sheppard; 6 grandchildren, Jihad, Sah'ji, Amia, Skye, Aviana and Maci, nephew, John Parks, III and her daughter- in-law Karen and son-in-law Jeron. Also survived by her step children Charles Jackson and Devrick Ferrand. Daughter in law of Emma Jean Gordon and her large and loving extended family and very supportive friends join in the mourning of her passing. Celesia was a recently retired nurse of more than 30 years. She was also an Elder at United Fellowship FGBC; a 1973 graduate of Walter L. Cohen Senior High School; former board member of The Urban League of Greater New Orleans; NAACP member; President of Real Life Solutions and motivational speaker. She was a socially and politically active person who believed in the power of communities working together to bring forth positive change in the world. She was a State Leader for the Obama Campaign. Relatives, friends of the family, and members of the faith community are invited to celebrate her life on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at United Fellowship FGBC, 2401 Annette Street at 10:00 a.m. Visitation is from 8:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. Bishop Tommie L.
