On January 8, 2017 at 11:08 A.M. the kitchen closed and our lives changed, when the Lord said job well done. Irma Shirley Mae Boyd Washington, affectionately known as Nanny, at the age of 80 peacefully entered into eternal rest answering the Lord's call. Nanny was born on March 5, 1936 in Boutte, LA from the union between the late Frank Boyd, Sr. and Naomi Coleman. She was educated in the St. Charles Parish school system and spent her entire life working in various restaurants in St. Charles Parish. Nanny was a member of Mt. Airy B. C. and served on the Usher Board until her passing. Her legacy, lessons, and loving memory will be cherished by her seven children: JaNice Boyd Scott, Ardine Boyd, Myron Boyd, Sr. (Terri), Avery Boyd (Cassandra), Denise Jolly, Sherman Washington III (Wanda) and Byron Washington (Yolanda); two sisters: Joyce B. Jefferson (Lionel - Deceased) and Verneda B. Brimmer (Ronald, Sr - Deceased); two brothers: Elvin Boyd (Marguerite) and Kenneth Boyd, Sr. (Katherine); three sisters-in-law: Myrtle Boyd, Dorothy Boyd, and Beverly Boyd; thirteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, a devoted uncle Clarence Dorsey, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Nanny was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Boyd, Sr. and Naomi Coleman Boyd; her loving husband, Sherman Washington Jr.; one sister, Marguerite Boyd; three brothers: Frank Boyd, Jr, Charles Boyd, and Ulysses Boyd, four brothers-in-law and six sisters-in-law. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of a Legacy Service on Saturday, January 14, 2017 for 12:00 P.M. at Mt. Airy Baptist Church, 13635 Old Spanish Trail, Boutte, LA. Semiko Sparks-There is so much I can say about MyMrsShirley(is what I use to call her) I had the pleasure of meeting her in 1996-1997 on my first job as a food prep at Big Als. She taught me soooo much that I still apply today. She invited me over to her home and on my first trip to N.O. Jazz Fest (Gospel Tent). That’s just how sweet and tender hearted she was. About every 2 yrs God crossed our paths at Nick Seafood. We laughed and cried every time. LOVE AND MISS U NANNY.

"Nanny had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness." Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Trust God!

To: Mrs.Shirley I met u the early year of 1996. U open my heart to cooking and guided me through your kitchen (Big Al's Yesterday Cafe). You told me," If u love what u do! It's not a job." I Love Cooking Because Of You. I moved about 15-20 mins away. How God works!!! I still got to see u at least Once a year when u came to Nicks Seafood No communication when we left Nicks. However We always managed to meet up there on the same day 6mos- 1yr later. I moved to Baton Rouge about 3 yrs ago. Going to Nicks only 3 times in pass years. Didn't bump into u.....Didn't get my big hug.....Didn't get to see that Big Smile.......Now your gone home with our King. You will be missed.
