WENZEL John E Wenzel, Jr., 85, passed away on February 11th, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born and lived in the New Orleans area most of his life. He served in the Marine Corps, worked as an X-ray technician, and successfully operated his business, Rent-Rite, for 28 years. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Iris Ellis Wenzel, a son, John III, two daughters, Cathy Lauro (Michael) and Deslie Broome (Bryan), five grandsons-Mike, Johnny, Sean, Dustin, and Brian, one great-grand-daughter, Leila, brothers August and Frederick, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Johannes and Mildred, sister Lydia Beikmann, and daughter-in-law Lorraine Wenzel. He was an avid reader, math whiz, sawdust engineer, woodcarver, skilled draftsman, and devoted Saints fan. He was a very kind, gentle, peace-loving, funny, and generous man with a wonderful, positive attitude. He loved deeply, lived joyfully, and was successful. He was loved and indeed will be missed! "Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again." A memorial service will be held at Homewood Suites, 101 Holiday Square Frontage Rd, Covington, LA 70433 in Covington on Saturday, February 16 at 1:00 PM.
