To the Pinkney Family:

To lose a FRIEND is never easy! Thelma was not just a Friend, she was a Mentor, Sister, Confident, Matron of Honor, and God-Mother to my Son.
She provided encouragement and support and inspirational thoughts when times seemed hardest.
I watched her at the height of her career, at the point of retirement and near the end of her life.
As I visited for what I did not know was my last visit, I hoped to return to find my friend, although ailing, but still able to...in her now weak and frail voice, something to me.
As I watched the television reports of the Hurricane, my prayers were that I hoped that Thelma had "gotten out". Out of the place she had so wonderfully created, the place where "everything had a place", her Home. The news devasted me. I loss my Friend. There remains an empty space in my heart and only God can fill that void.
I'm still holding on....Hoping for the day, when I will meet my friend again.

Love

Mrs. Pinkney was my mentor. She inspired and assisted in my molding. As a dear friend to my mother, Dorothy S. Humphrey, Mrs. Pinkney stressed the importance of "Finer Womanhood". She exemplied a virtuous woman, one of noble character, strong-willed and a "stickler" for professionalism and proper etiquette.

Mrs. Pinkney was my "Ann Landers"!. The Grand Debutante of New Orleans! My fondest memories include those as she provided encouragement in my pursuit to attend college. She was not a quitter! Her smile indicated that she was proud of my accomplishments, and shared strongly her opinion when things were incorrect.

Her last days should have been her best days, as she had contributed so much to her family, friends, community and others whom she encountered throughout her many years.

We are grieved with sadness of her passing and continue to pray for Mr. Pinkney and her family. We just a telephone and prayer away.(850) 878-5308
