William Newell Norman , 70, passed away in New Orleans, Louisiana on June 11, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Lemuel Norton and Martha Lee Newell. He is survived by his step-mother, Marilyn L. Norton; daughter, Katherine Norton; son, William Barlow Norton (Tanya); daughter, Sarah Samuel (Scott); grand-son, Patrick William Samuel; sister, Nancy Allen (Clyde)and loving nieces and nephews. Bill was born in Jackson, Mississippi on October 27, 1947. He attended Murrah High School and then received his B.A. from Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1972. He recently retired from Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowtz, PC. Bill believed strongly in improving the community and received several accolades recognizing his extraordinary commitment to pro bono service in the New Orleans area. Along with serving on the Louisiana State Bar Association, the New Orleans Bar Association and the Louisiana Bar Foundation, Bill was a strong advocate for the American Diabetes Association. He was recognized as "Father of the Year" in 2014. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1329 Jackson Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana 70130. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. A private inurnment service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2424 Edenborn Ave., Ste. 660, Metairie, Louisiana 70001 or Trinity Episcopal Church, 1329 Jackson Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana 70130.
