I met Barbara Hudson at 20 years of age when I came to live in Tamworth with my future husband Paul James Lyons. Barbara was then 50 years of age. She not only attended my wedding but was to become a true, loyal and dear friend. Over the years I had the joy of Barbara coming to visit with me on the Central Coast spending wonderful times at the beach, at home and sharing the changing seasons of my life. I also had lots of fun on visits to Tamworth over the years to go and see Barbara sharing stories of her times in service during the second world wars, books we had read and great meals and movies. Barbara was also in attendance at my wedding on the Central Coast and one of her special gifts was a guest book for my home when I moved in here some 29 years ago. It has handwritten notes from Barbara which I will always treasure of our times past. In recent years with life being busy and failing health Barb was moved into the cottages where I visited her when I could. Last year in July on the way home from a stint in Queensland I especially dropped in via Tamworth to see her and was thrilled and delighted that she was as usual so cognizant and vital and spent some hours reminiscing and about her life. Since then it has been phone calls and letters to Barbara to sustain contact. Some two weeks ago I rang and spoke to her and she asked When are you coming to see me ? I explained that I am a long way away but would call in June on my way through to Gulgong. I rang today to talk to Barb and wish her a very Happy Mothers Day and down the line came the sad news that she had passed away. Silence as I caught my breath and said it can't be but alas it is true. I am so sad and had I known that she had passed I would have been there to wish her well and say goodbye. To a wonderful, incredible friend of some 46 years I wish you well and know that you will be up there with the angels looking down on my endevours and smiling. I am privileged to have had such a loyal, kind and wonderful friend in my life for so long.
