I was a patient of Dr. Woessner's til he moved out of the area. I was so pleased to have such a thoughtful, thorough physician. He reminded me of my Dr. in Richmond. He also passed at a very young age. God blessed us for such a short time with such a wonderful person. My heart goes out to his family.
I just heard of Dr.Woessner passing today as I arrived back to town. I had the privilege of working with this wonderful man that always had a contagious smile and a great sense of humor. He was an exceptional man, doctor, and friend. I will keep his family on my prayers.
Dr. Woessner was unlike any physician I've had before especially compared to other OB/Gyns. His ability to truly listen to me as his patient with his sincere willingness to do so was apparent at my first appointment with him 7 years ago. And, as a first-time Mom his honesty was more than appreciated when he told me of my options upon discovering my baby was breech. Therefore, I didn't hesitate to schedule the Cesarean section delivery of my daughter in order to have him as my surgeon. Most importantly, I will always be grateful of his compassion when during a post-delivery hospital visit I was having an extremely difficult time learning to nurse. He was genuinely concerned about my well-being as his eyes were tearful while he again gave me good advice and encouragement.
I was saddened when last summer I heard Dr. Woessner was very ill. It's difficult to find out now he didn't recover.
I pray that his family finds comfort in the knowledge that he was an exceptional man. May God embrace you! I'm sure Dr. Woessner will be dearly missed as it's obvious even those of us who knew him only as his patient will miss him!
I am sorry to hear about Dr. Woessner's passing. He delivered my first son and he managed my care for my last pregnancy in 2011. He was an excellent and very caring person. My prayers goes to his family.
I am very sorry to learn of Dr. Woessner's death. My sincerest condolences to his family and close friends. He was an incredible doctor who gave personal care and attention during my last 5 pregnancies. He took the time to get to know my husband and children too. He was a good man, a caring man, and we were very fond of him. I found out I was expecting again and could not wait to schedule an appointment, only to learn the sad news. You will be missed, Dr. Woessner!
To a wonderful doctor who made me felt comfortable when I had surgery you will be missed
Dr woesssner was an amazing Dr. He delivered my second son, and I will never forget how he came in the triage room and made me laugh, even while I was in labor pain! you will be greatly missed.
May you get comfort in knowing how well liked and loved Dr. Woessner was. He was a great doctor but also was a friend to many. I know he will be missed alot. Please know that your family is our thoughts and prayers
I've been moved to tears reading many of the entries in this space and realize that all of us have had the same impressions. The entries pay tribute to a man admired by all who were acquainted with him, much less if you had the privilege of a friendship with Bill.
I knew Bill during our medical school years, from 1984-88. He was my roomate for most of that time and my closeset friend during those tough years. Don't know if I would have gotten through it without Bill's sense of humor.
Early on in our first year, as all the students prepared for our first exam we were all very wound up not sure what to expect. Even Bill seemed affected by the pressure, and stayed up late and got up early to study. This went on for several days until he suddenly blurted out " this is not like me" and from then on while studying Bill approached his study time differently and would often don some old surgical greens and a shower cap in preparation.
He'ld often pick up his guitar during a study break and play something. He soon set up his drums in the den and occasionally John Payne would drop by and they would play a set together.
He also had other antics he was famous for like the time during a study break when he gave a "lecture", complete with pointer and anatomic chart on " the anatomy and physiology of the human anus". I laughed so hard my belly hurt.
We had many good experiences together, many of which came out of the ordinary stuff of life-- driving into together to class, the occasional fishing trip, enjoying a meal together. After med school we went to California as a last hurrah before residency. Bill enjoyed, I think his first backpacking trip. We had snow in June at Yosemite and got caught in a squall as powerful wind and snow came down as we sat above the treeline on an 11,000 ft. peak. Bill was suffering a bit of altitude sickness but never lost his cool and we got through it.
I could go on and on as I'm sure many of us could, relating experiences that illustrate the personality and character of Bill but I'm preaching to the choir. Everyone hear already knows that Bill was a great man who loved his Lord, his family, his patients and life. Even though I've not been in close touch with Bill for 20 years I miss him greatly and cannot imagine the pain you, his family feel at this time. I can only say, inadequately, that you all will remain in my prayers.May God bless you and keep you as you persevere during your loss.
My heart goes out to Dr. Woessner's family. He was a wonderful man. He was my first obgyn and delivered my first son. He was so caring and compassionate and had a wonderful ability of putting you at ease. Thank you for all the good you brought into the world. You will be missed by so many.
Dr. Woessner became my doctor about 8 or 9 years ago, when the doctor I had been seeing was on vacation and he was so wonderful I stuck with him every year since then. My appt back this spring just wasn't the same without him. He just had a calmness about him, making you feel as comfortable as possible, never judging and a good listener. What a blessing it was to have the pleasure of knowing him and having such a wonderful doctor. Even when I was in college in Richmond, I still drove all the way to Newport News for my appointments. I just learned of his passing tonight and my heart aches for his family and everyone that knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with the Woessner family. Dr. Woessner- you will be deeply missed and I know I will see your smiling face in heaven again one day.
I am so very sorry for your loss. Dr. Woessner was my doctor at the Riverside Medical Group. He was so very kind to me. When he talked about his family he just radiated his love. My prayers are with you. May the love of friends and family carry you through this difficult time.
I was sorry to hear of Dr. Woessner's passing. I knew him from his practice in Woodstock, Virginia. My prayers are with his family.
When I heard of Dr. Woessner's passing, my stomach dropped! It is hard to believe that he is not with us but comforting to know that he will fit right into his new role in heaven....so easy for him! Dear family, I am so glad about 8 or 9 years ago I met Dr. Woessner where he followed the progress of my pregnancy. What a better place the world is because of Dr. Woessner!
I just want to let you know I'll be keeping the family in my prayers. Dr,. Woessner delivered my daughter in Dec 2012 at Woodstock, VA . I thought he was wonderful & am very sorry for the loss. I know he will be missed.
I really enjoyed my short time with Bill playing guitar and talking about music. Bill joined our group about a year ago and I rediscovered connections with his family dating back to the High School days. Bill had an inner strength that was an inspiration to us all and we are all deeply saddened about his passing. My only regret is that I did not get to know him better sooner. My condolences to Lisa and the family. I hope your great memories of times together will ease your sorrow.
I love you Bill, and I am so sad that you aren't here with us now, and so grateful that I will see you again one day.
I grew up with Bill during my childhood years and into adulthood. I lived next door to him and his family. Our families were so close, that he was like my brother. I really did love Bill and he impacted my life. When my Dad died in 1970, it was his family that continued to be a family to me as they had been the ten years prior. There are so many things I could say about Bill, but let's just say that all the wonderfully incredible things that have been said about him are really true. I am a witness to that and was able to grow up knowing that, and got to experience him as the years passed. What a special extraordinary human being, who graced us for far-too-short a time.
My sincere love and prayers to Lisa, Meredith and Ben -- May you all know the love of the our Father Daddy, just as I've known it, so comforting, so sweet, so kind...and to my dear family, Aunt Bert, Pam and John, Steve and Linda, and their precious ones --Love and grace to you all.
I am saddened to hear about the passing of a great physician and a gentleman. I had the pleasure of working with Dr Woessner in the OR of RRMC. He will be missed greatly. God Bless the Woessner Family.
I knew Dr. Woessner when he worked at SMH. I'll always remember his sweet smile. Thought and prayers are with the family at this time.
Becky Walker, RN
About 6 years ago, John Payne called me to ask if I would like to fill in for a member of the Nimrod and Reel fishing club on a charter boat in Manteo. Upon arrival at the house, everyone was there except for John. I was welcomed with open arms and began one of the most enjoyable weekends of my life. This was the first time I met this roup of crazies, but I knew from the start they had somehting special. I never laughed as much as I did that weekend, and when it was time to go home, I was offered a hand shake and a hug from Bill, and he said to me;"Pete, you are welcome to hang with us anytime you like" From that day forward, be it in Manteo, at the Smithfield Parade, at the Station, at the house on the Rapp, at the wine festival or any place else we got togther, I was always greated with a big hug and that ever-lasting smile. I never spent a day with Bill in the last 6 years that was not full of fun and laughter. He and that group of crazies have changed my life forever, and hold a very special place in my heart. I love you Bill. God Bless you, Lisa, Meredith, Ben and everyone you touched in your life. You made the world a better place.
I'll always have countless memories of the fun I had making music with Bill in The Heartache Band, and of spending Spring and Fall weekends with him as part of our fishing "club" for the past 20 years. I couldn't wait to play a gig together or to meet up with him in the Outer Banks -- for starters, he'd always yell "Bruce!!" when I saw him drive up. That was Bill's gift to others -- making you feel special. It was such a big part of who he was, and it was genuine. (Thanks, Bill, for all the sticks of "Big Red" gum you gave me on the boat...those were gifts, too!) I'll also miss his sharp sense of humor, his laugh, and of course, that comforting, ever-present smile as he talked, making us all feel better just to be with him.
I'd share a room with Bill on these trips together, and in catching up with him, I might gripe and whine about this and that in my life, but Bill was always so positive, with the right mix of advice and humor. To me, he'll always be an example of how to live, and how to treat others. My thoughts, prayers, and love go to Lisa, Meredith, Benjamin, and Bill's extended family during this sad time. I loved my dear friend very much, and I will miss him, yet my treasured memories of Bill will always fill my heart.
So sad to hear this he delivered my daughter 11yrs ago and he was the best doctor i have ever been to.. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of this great man.. May God comfort each and everyone that is affected by the loss of this man..
I am so saddend to hear of his passing, He will never be forgot in my household.. He delievered both of my children, and he coached me through start to finish on both pregancies. He was the best Dr. I have ever had. Thank you Dr.Woessner for being such a great dr. and person... may GOD wrap his loving arms around your family and give them comfort, and know another angel is smiling down!
When I first met Dr. Woessner, I was a pregnant grad student on the verge of moving back in with my parents. He treated me with such compassion and never looked down on me. I remember the day I was "rushed" to the hospital to deliver my baby boy, he said things in a way that I didn't even pick up on the urgency. Later on, when I was married and pregnant with my second child, I remember him assuring me that I could stop calling this child "Abby" (I thought I knew what this one was going to be) because he was "definitely a boy" (and of course chuckling while he said it!)! Or putting up with the crazy rantings of a pregnant lady that had already drove her husband into his man cave. And he was like this--genuine, funny, and straightforward with everyone he seemed to encounter at the office. He was a very rare gem and I consider myself to be very lucky to have had him as my doctor. He will so missed.
Oh you dear Dr.Bill...you are our friend and neighbor at "the river" and you will be very missed. I always took comfort knowing you were on our street and my heart aches for Lisa and the children. Nic, DeeDee and Jon send their love and I can not believe you are gone. We were unable to make your service, but you and your family were in our constant thoughts. Fondly, The Querolo Family
I have the privilege of being a colleague of Bill's at Women's Health Care. I would give him morning check out after being on call, as Wednesdays were always his coveted call day. I could give him the most horrendous check out and he would inevitably say "I'm on it.". Although, I could not see him over the phone, I know he likely had that big, unforgettable smile when he said it. He truly loved what he did and his patient care always showed that. He was an amazing physician, husband, father, and friend. We will miss you, Bill. And Wednesday check outs will never be the same... Heartfelt hugs and prayers to your family.
I have had Dr. Woessner for the past 10 yaers as my doctor, after I moved here from NY. I loved his bedside manner and the care he showed his patients. He will be missed!
Dr. Woessner delivered my son 22 years ago and almost delivered my granddaughter 8 years ago. He was such an amazing man with a warm smile. I will keep the family in my prayers and I feel so blessed to have known him.
In life you meet people and either you change there life or they change yours. Dr Woessner (Wazz) has CHANGED my life! I started working at RRMC in 2005 and have gotten to know Wazz well. His smile brighten the nurses station. His laugh made you chuckle and feel good inside. As a Woessner Wednesday nurse, I looked forward to coming to work on Wednesdays because no matter how busy, hectic, or even bizarre the day got at some point we would hear Wazz walking down the hall whistling or humming. He was a breathe of fresh air. In 2008 he delivered my nephew and we were honored to have him add to our family. I could come to him with questions about anything from nursing, raising a little boy, to being a good spouse. I will miss him and his singing in the OR.
Mrs. Woessner, Meredith, and Benjamin hold onto your precious memories during this holiday season when you start to miss your husband and dad. I will continue to pray for your family. Thank you for sharing such a special blessing with us.
Dr. Woessner will be trully missed ,I have been a patient of his for seven years but have been going to the office since 1995. I will always remember him for his beautiful smile and blushing of his cheeks when he laughed. He took great care of his patients, he listened throughly while assessing my medical conditions. I send my love, thoughts and prayers to his family at home and the office.
Dr Woessner delivered my oldest daughter 8 years ago this past September. It was a complicated pregnancy & I will NEVER forget his kind compassion & the way he explained things to me in a way I could understand. He always had that sweet smile on his face & that little giggle he always did, I will forever remember. I saw him exclusively when I became pregnant with my second daughter in 2009. Unfortunately, he had just gone off call when I went in to labor. When I found out I was pregnant again in 2011 with my son, I only got to see him a handful of times. An appointment didn't go by that I always inquired about how he was doing & whether or not he'd get to come back to work. His presence will be greatly missed by everyone who was blessed to have known him. God bless the Woessner family.
I knew Dr. Woessner for about a year all throught my pregnacny with my son and after the delivery. Dr. Woesnner deliverd my son on Jan 12, 2011. The greatest Doctor I could have had was him. He was outstanding, and took such great care of me and my newborn always coming and checking on us. He was a wonderful person and Doctor. He will be missed very much from all his patients. Very upsetting to hear about his passing. To the family, I will be praying for you all!!
It is with great sadness that I heard about Dr. Woessner's passing. He became my doctor when Dr. Hannah retired, and I have been always been very impressed with his gentle, caring personality. To Mrs. Woessner and family, may God help you through this time of sorrow.
Yesterday, All Saints' Sunday, we had special prayers at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church on behalf of Bill at each of our services and will continue to hold up the family in prayer.
Such an incredible person. Bill was my friend at a time when life was full of changes for each of us, he was getting ready for medical school and I was new to the NCC family. His humor kept me laughing and, his friendship kept me grounded. He was a reflection of the love of his family; a fun, unique and talented man. He will be missed by so many. Love to the entire family. Our hope is that we will see him again.
God bless you, Dr. Woessner, and your family. That previous unsigned entry was from me as well.
I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Woessner's passing. He took care of me through all 4 of my pregnancies within 4 years. He delivered my 1st born, on this day, 6 years ago. He was there for me and helped me through a miscarriage with his teary eyes. I considered him to be a friend. A good friend. He always talked with me like I was a human being with a heart. He had compassion towards the babies in the womb like I nor my husband never saw in any other doctor. He was without doubt the most wonderful doctor I have ever been to. I feel very blessed that during mine and my husbands family making years, that he was there to take care of us and our babies. I feel for those who will never know him. He was a man with a heart of gold. My heart and prayers goes out to his family.
Bill found the fun in everything he did. I will forever smile every time I think about him. We will all miss him greatly. My prayers are with Lisa, Meredith, Ben, his mother, brother and sister.
So very sorry to hear of the loss of such a wonderful, warm, caring person. He was alway cheerful and took his time with his patients. He delivered our son in 1993. Prayers go out to his family. He will be missed by many.
My name is Janet McClure and I just found out about Dr. Woessner. I lived in Virginia when my husband and I were stationed at Langley AFB. I had tried getting pregnant many times and finally did. I was one of his first patients at the practice. He was so caring and kind during the whole pregnancy. I ended up being two weeks late and he finally decided to induce at Mary Immaculate. He stayed the entire day and into the night until James was born which was not until after midnight that night. He made my pregnancy such a wonderful experience and he was such a kind and sweet man. My heart breaks you all and I will sincerely pray for you all. My son is now 19 and has battled heart disease and heart failure but today is doing well. I am thankful that I got to know him and have him as my doctor.
I just heard about Bill's passing from Sarah Scott. I had no idea. I'm devastated. What a great person Bill was. He and I were roomates living on the Poquoson River while he was a resident physician from 1990-92. We were roomates when he and Lisa began dating. I had lost track of Bill since I had moved back to Richmond, but I frequently thought about the great times we had together even though it was for a few short years. Not staying in touch with Bill, Lisa, and family will be one of my life's biggest regrets now. I am so sorry.
Very sad to hear this, May he rest in peace. Thoughts and prayers to his family.
I met Dr. WOESNER when I was pregnant with my daughter Laicia who is now 13.She was born the same day Dr.Woesner`s daughter was born April 16 1999. He delivered both of them. WE BOTH WERE PROUD PARENTS THAT DAY. GOD BLESS HIS FAMILY.
Lisa, Meredith and Ben we were saddened to here of Bill's passing. Our thought and prayers continue to be with you.
I am sorry for your loss. Dr. Woessner was such a caring and kind person. He always had a smile on his face. I had the honor of having him deliver my first daughter, Isabella, 4 years ago. I pray for the entire family for strength during this sad time.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Dr Woessner family. Dr Woessner was the best OBGYN ever. He made me feel so comfortable and like I was the only patient he had. He knew my name and status without having to look at the chart. U can't hardly find doctors like that anymore. Dr Woessner will truly be missed.
My heart, sympathy and prayers go out to Dr. Woessner's family. He was the most caring doctor I ever had. He delivered my son in 1999 at 27 weeks, I was a scared 20 year old girl but Dr. Woessner showed so much compassion and told me he was going to do everything in his power to save my son. He kept to that promise and now when I look at my son who is a healthy 13 year old and just think back to the Dr who helped give him life with the good Lord guiding his hands. I will forever be thankful for this wonderful man!
Our hearts and prayers go out to the entire Woessner family. May the Lord carry you in His loving arms and comfort you.
The loss of Bill has left a gaping hole in our family, but having known him has made me a better person and memories of him are full of inspiration on how to live life well.
Thoughts and Prayers for the Woessner family.
I met Dr. Woessner 16 years ago when I found out I was pregnant at 17. My mother, who worked at Mary Immaculate Hospital with Dr. Woessner at that time, felt he was the right doctor for me. It was a very hard time in my life. I walked in his office that day scared and the first thing I saw was his smiling, caring face telling me everything was going to be alright, that he would help me through this in any way he could. He delivered my daughter Allison and 8 years later delivered my son, Dawson. I had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Woessner every Thursday when he would come to the Gloucester office I worked at. He would always say Good Morning and ask how the kids and my husband were. I will always remember him for his kind, caring demeanor that he always displayed. I never remember a time that he was not smiling. My heart goes out to his family. You will continue to be in my prayers. You were blessed to have such a wonderful person in your life. He will not be forgotten. I will forever miss my doctor and my friend.
I knew Bill when he was an intern and then worked with him for years at RRMC in the O.R. He was always smiling and I cannot recall him ever being angry. He was a gentleman and a man who cared deeply, for his family and his patients. He is gone too soon ,but his zest for life will live on in the memories of those who knew and loved him.
Thoughts and prayers go out to the Woessner Family. Dr. Woessner will be remembered for his caring nature with his patients and his outgoing, friendly personality.
My deepest thoughts and prayers of comfort to the Woessner family. I had the great privilege of working with Dr. Woessner at Center for Women's Health. I will never forget his smile, love of life and devotion to his patients. He touched the lives of so many in such a special way.
Dr.Woessner was a very good and kind person. He loved being a doctor. He was a compassionate guy. I worked with him at Mary Immaculate for many years, and he will be missed. You were blessed to have him in your lives. Brenda Jones

I worked Mother /Baby unit @ Riverside that how I was touched by a beautiful light. His name was Dr Woessner / what a smile. He would see me in the hallway and yell "ELVA" or have a soda for me to drink because I love caffeine.
Lisa, Meredith, and Ben: You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Steve, Julie, Elizabeth and Michael
Very very sad. Dr. Woessner was a true professional in every way and my heart goes out to his family during their time of loss. Dr. Woessner has been and will be, dearly missed. Very sad to hear this news. He was a Fine Doctor that listened, never judged and was there to accomadate in his practice. God Bless! Dolores Colucci (Indianapolis IN)
Dr. Woessner was such a wonderful doctor. I had the pleasure of working with him for a few months at Riverside and he will be greatly missed by his patients and the nurses. Thoughts and prayers to his family, patients and all who had the pleasure to work alongside of such a great man!
I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Woessner as his MA for the past 4 yrs.He was such a joy to work with. The hall at WHC he worked out of will always be known as"Woessner's Hall". And though "his" hall will be silent of his voice and laughter the wonderful memories will always be there.
To Mrs. Woessner,Meredith, and Benjamin, my deepest sympathy. You have showed such strength in this past year which is a testament to his life. You were gracious the two times I dropped by your house, especially in the last days of his life, and I thank you for that . May you find Peace and Comfort in the days to come.
Sincerely, Leslie Clark
I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I worked with him over 20 years ago when he was still in high school and wanting to be a doctor. He was such a pleasant young man and I've never forgotten him. His gentle spirit and contagious smile has remained as a very special thought of him. Even though I havent seen him since working at Uniway of Tidewater in the 80's, he has remained a very special person in my heart. I am keeping his family in my prayers. God Bless and comfort you

I helped Bill Woessner open his practice in Woodstock and worked side by side with him. He always had a smile on his face that would light up a room, he loved and cared for every patient he took care of as if they were the only one. He shared in there joy and in there sorrow. He will be missed but we should know that smile of his will be shining down on all of us. Lisa I send my love and prayers your way for the strength to help you and the children get through this most difficult time.

My deepest sympathies to the Woessner Family. Dr. Woessner helped me through a difficult miscarriage and also delivered two of my beautiful children. He will be truly missed!!!
So So sorry for your loss. What a great doctor he was to have known. He delivered my daughter Jenna, July of 1999 at Shen. memorial Hospital. He was away at his sister-in-law's wedding(i believe) in Nags Head (maybe), anyway the back up Dr. became ill with Rocky Mt. Tick fever and Dr. Woessner came back when he found out I was in labor. It was a 9 hour drive. I was soo happy to hear he was on his way. The next day he drove back to join his family. I was so blessed to have him as my doctor. He will be greatly missed by all.
Dr. Woessner did two surgeries on me several years ago. For the second one I had a hysterectomy. I joked with him that when I woke up I wanted a diet pepsi. And that night he walked in my room with one. He was a great Doctor and a wonderful man. My prays are with his family.
I would like to express to the family how very sorry I am for your loss. Dr. Woessner delivered my 17 year old son, and would have delivered my 13 yr. old as well, had he been practicing in the area at the time. He also cared for me through 3 miscarriages, and was so very compassionate during my time of loss. I hope that his beloved family can feel the love and caring coming from so many people, and find some comfort from it. My prayers are with you.
I am so grateful to have known Dr Woessner. Halfway through my first pregnancy I had to switch from my military healthcare to civilian. It had been an intimidating experience for me up to that point. When I arrived at Women's healthcare for my first appointment and was met with that wonderful smile I finally relaxed and felt like everything was going to be ok. He delivered my son via emergency C-section and even though it was a potentially harrowing experience he had a way of making both me and my husband feel at ease. He delivered all three of our children which makes him a very important part of the story of my own family. My heart goes out to his family and friends. He was an exemplary human being and I feel blessed to have known him. Rest in Peace Dr, Heaven has received a very special Angel.
I am so sorry for your loss. I registered Dr. Woessner several times for different procedures at the diagnostic center where I work. He was always a pleasure when he came into the office. I will be praying for you all. God bless you!
I was a patient of Dr. Woessner and will miss him. We used to compare trips we took with our family. Often the trips were to the same areas. He always had a great smile and attitude. He will be missed!
Dr Woessner delivered 2 of my three girls. I will miss his great personality and the way he made you feel like you were his only patient for the day. I'm just so sad that he has passed. My heart goes out to his family. He was always so proud of you!
I had the privilege of working with Dr. Woessner when I worked in the OR at Riverside....what a beautiful and caring man. My deepest sympathies to his family. I am so very sorry for your loss.
I was so very sad to hear this news! God brought home one of his angels and you will truly be missed! My love and heartfelt prayers go out to the entire family! God bless and be with you all during this difficult time.. Donna York Britt
Dr. Woessner was a wonderful doctor. Glad I had the chance to meet him. To his family I am so sorry for your lose. Rip
Dr. Woessner was one of the best attendings we had at Riverside. Always ready to teach. Always ready to listen. And always smiling. Wednesdays were always good to be on call because that was his call day and you knew he was there to help and give advice as needed. Tears come as easy as the memories. He loved his family so very much. I can remember the stories he told of the wonderful vacations they would take. My heart is so heavy for the family. Time and life are precious gifts each of us are given and that so very few of us acknoweldge. May the family find some peace in knowing they now have an angel up above looking after them. What a wonderful husband, father, son, friend, teacher and doctor he was. Dr. Woessner, you will be missed beyond what words can describe.
My deepest sympathies to Dr. Woessner's family. He was my first doctor, back when he was the "new doctor" with Dr. O'Connell. I was asked if I would see the new Doctor, I agreed and in walked this man with the most radiant smile and the gift few doctors have, the ability to put the patient at ease. I remember the visit when I congratulated him on his upcoming wedding and I cried when he left for Woodstock Virgina. When I found he had returned to the area, I was so happy only to find out he had become ill. Dr. Bill had the ability to comfort his patients physically as well as soothe their souls and he will be missed terribly by many. I hope his family is wrapped in the love of friends and the memory of what a great man he was. Words seem inadequate at such a loss, please know that even though he had not been my doctor for a few years, he was the measuring stick I used to judge other doctors because he was just that good! And I will never forget that smile. I wish peace and love for the family.
"Dr Waz" is one of the many names we called him. I will miss that big smile that always started my day in L&D. To the family stay strong and Thanks for sharing your precious jewel with us.
love from Fritz and Vera Horne
Dr. Woessner performed surgery on me in 2000 at SMH, and from the beginning put me at ease. I had a very large tumor removed from my stomach and the next day after surgery I found that he had called the hospital several times during the night to check on me. He was a wonderful doctor with a gentle bedside manner, and will truly be missed. I feel so blessed for having known him. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family...may you blessed in knowing that he made a difference in this world. He was good man.
There are not enough words to describe such a wonderful and loving man. I had the great pleasure of working with Dr. Woessner for 8 years at WHC. I can honestly say that he was one of the most genuine people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. What a blessing it is to have known him. I cannot recall ever seeing him have a bad day and he treated everyone with the same respect and care. Although he is no longer physically with us, I take comfort in knowing that his spirit will always surround us. May God's grace keep and comfort his family during this difficult time.

I am so saddened to hear this news. Dr. Woessner took care of me and delievered my beautiful baby boy three years ago and I couldn't have asked for a more patient, humorous, kind doctor. This is a terrible loss. My heart truly goes out to the family.
Dr. Woessner is by far one of the most awesome people I have ever met! He always had a smile on his face and something funny to say! His kindness to his patients and to the nursing staff was one of a kind! I have had the privalage of working with him on L&D for the last 5 years and he also took care of me with my 1st pregnancy! I could always count Dr. Wazz to be in good ol' Gloucester every Thursday for my appointment! I truely missed seeing him in the office with my last pregnancy:( On L&D Wednesdays were known as Woessner Wednesday's and there was never a lack of staffing those days! He is truely going to be missed but I find peace in knowing he is suffering no more and that I will see him again in Heaven! My heart and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time! Love you Dr Woessner and look forward to the day I get to see that smile again!

He was a wonderful Doctor and person. He will be missed.
I am so saddened to hear of Dr. Woessner's passing. He was such a caring, kind and gentle person. He delivered my first child, so he holds a special place in my heart. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and coworkers.
Such a tremendous loss to our community. Dr Woessner was an excellent doctor and such an inspiration to the medical field. He took care of me in 2004' with my first child and again in 2011' with my second child. No matter how nervous and scared I was he always could put me at ease. He had an amazing smile and I will forever be greatful for all the wonderful things he did for me during my pregnancies. GOD BLESS!!!!
I will miss Bill's music, his laugh and his kind soul. But I am sure he is rockin' out in heaven right now.
My most sincere condolences to the Woessner family. Dr. Woessner was my doctor after my dear Dr. Keffer retired so he had big shoes to fill. I came to the conclusion that Dr. Keffer retiring was a true blessing for me! I can see Dr. Woessner smiling at me right now while I fuss about menopause. I can hear his chuckle when he tells me how normal I am.
I do not recall giving you permission to be sick!! You are the doctor!! You're supposed to take care of US!! But in the end you are human--and what a wonderful person you were! I am so grateful for the time you took care of me. You will be missed..
And heaven gains another angel. My father passed away from pancreatic cancer this time last year and I was told this story that I'm sure his family will appreciate. Heaven is kind of like a maternity ward, all of the family that has already passed on to eternity is sitting around with such great anticipation waiting for the "birth" of a loved on into eternal life, just like we do here on earth for a new baby. That story just warmed my heart . He delivered my Madilyn 2 years ago and he will always hold a place in my heart for that I know he will be greatly missed by everyone.
My condolences go out to the family and friends of Dr. Woessner. He was a wonderfully positive doctor that has touched so many lives. I always am hearing in the community how much his patients miss him. I was lucky to have Dr. Woessner attend the birth of my son 2 years ago. He was a part of making my dream of a VBAC delivery a reality. During my 24+ hour labor he always walked in with that beautiful smile on his face. He was always positive and brought light and humor to the room. It was so funny because every time he would walk in I would have a contraction. I hope, in time, it bring his family comfort that his spirit lives in all of us, who will never forget how he touched our lives and our babies lives.
I am very sad to hear of Bill's death. What a wonderfully compassionate doctor and man. I pray he is in the arms of Jesus, feeling healthy and strong.
I will always remember Dr Woessner. Such a caring a compassionate person. Although i only met him a couple times, i knew he was the kind of person who gave his best at everything he did. My thoughts are with his family, i am sorry for your loss.
Everyday he had a huge SMILE on his face. He loved himself some M&Ms. I worked with Dr Woessner for 4 years. He taught me a lot. He was a great all around wonderful man. He will be missed by every woman he cared for. May God be with his family and friends as they remember him as a person and his smiling face.
Doc you were the only GYN that made me feel at ease and your bedside manner was great you always had a smile and we shared a laugh each time I came in and you were the best. May your family find peace and may your memory give them comfort go soar with the angels and RIP.
May God hold each of Bill's family close in His arms as He welcomes Bill into His Heavenly Kingdom, acknowledging a life spent loving and honoring the people he knew and served here on earth. I first knew Bill when I was a nurse and he a young resident in Labor and Delivery at Riverside Hospital, and I knew then that he had a special love and compassion for his patients and for those of us who worked with him. His love for his parents and his wife and children was
obvious to all who knew him. Bill will be greatly missed by everyone whose life he touched.
Very sorry for the loss to his family and sorry too for this loss to the community! Dr Woessner was a very kind and caring doctor. Very sorry to hear he has gone home so soon. He will already be making heaven an even warmer, wonderful place - but he will be missed here in Hampton Roads.

I knew Bill from 1988 when I worked with him at Riverside Hospital L&D. He reminded me of my own sons, always kind with a big heart. He had a relaxed gentle demeanor. He once hosted a party at his home on the water.....a rough fishing cabin. He was humble and welcoming to all. We had a great time as he and others played their music. What a great person. I am enriched for having known him. Blessings to his family.
What a wonderful person. Beautiful inside and out. A man who loved his family deeply and cherished life daily. He always had a kind word and a smile for those he worked with and called friends. I will miss him. May God give his family comfort and peace.

I was a young nurse in the Emergency Department when I met him 22 years ago. I learned so much from Dr. Woessner as he was always willing to help and teach along the way. Bill delivered our daughter 15 years ago. He was so concerned about hurting me as he tried to turn her from her breach position so we could try to have her on my husbands birthday! He was one of the best doctors I have ever had! I was ready to follow him to Winchester when he moved back to Va. I remembered how thrilled I was to have him back! Really good doctors are hard to find & we found one with him! I don't know what I will do now, I don't know if any other doctor could measure up! I thank God for the gift of his smile & compassion! He blessed many people with the wonderful gift of being a parent to God's precious gift to each of us, our children! He will not be forgotten! I pray that God gives his family his peace that passes all understanding to guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus! I pray that your lives will truly be blessed by the love of God! And the same God who welcomed Bill home into his loving arms, would surround you with his peace and comfort! You are all in our prayers! An artist's eye,
A humanitarian's heart,
A song in his mouth,
A gifted physician,
I have invested my time well in a friendship that was as rich as his laughter,
As colorful as the fall foliage at his passing,
And as sweet as the harmony of his voice blended over the rich tones of his guitar,
How lucky was I to call him Friend…
Lisa, Charlie and I are so sorry to hear of this sadd news, you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. The Seays at the Rivah
I feel so blessed to have known Dr. Woessner. He helped me through one of the most difficult times in a woman's life. I was single and only 31 yrs old and had to have a complete hysterectomy. When I woke up from surgery he was standing by my bed with a tear rolling down his check telling me how sorry he was and that I would not be able to have children.
His compassion got me through the hard days ahead
He was not only a wonderful doctor but also a great friend.
Our prayers go out to his entire family..

What an awsome young man and Doctor. I am so sorry for his family and his children. Keep your memories close. Your father was so loved by people you will never know and respected by his fellow physicians and the nurses and staff that worked with him.My heart is so heavy for you, but also for all of us that love him. I love to share the funny stories with other nurses about Bill as a resident. It brings a smile and Joy to my heart. Thank you for sharing Bill with us . Not only an amazing Doctor but also an incredible man. He was missed terribly after he left Woodstock, I have never found another dr even come close to measuring up to him.
It was such an honor to work with Dr. Woessner, or "Dr. Wazz", as we called him. We created so many memories with him on L&D at RRMC. He was a great man and always smiling. My thoughts and prayers for his wife and children. He will be greatly missed.
I worked with Dr. Woessner at Riverside Regional when I was fresh out of nursing school. He was always so kind and patient with me in my learning process and equally wonderful with the patients. I learned a great deal from him. Such an awesome doctor and just a great person. Many of my best memories from Riverside include "Wazz." He will be missed greatly. My deepest condolences to his family.
When it comes to resting your soul, there is no place like the great house of God.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. His sense of fun will be remembered by us, and the water gun fight we had at work. We remember singing Under the Boardwalk with him at a party he invited all the operators too, he was such a great laid back person. We will truly miss him - The "Operators" at Riverside.
As an OR nurse,I knew Bill during his residency at Riverside. He had the ability to light up wherever he was. That memory remains with me.
May The Lord bless and comfort your family during this very difficult time. Dr woessner was one of a kind... So sweet, genuine, moral, kind and compassionate. I feel so honored to have worked with him at the office and on labor and delivery. The world has lost an unbelievable man and doctor while God has gained one very special angel.
Dr. Woessner will live on the most special of memories for many parents. Like many others here, he delivered my son in 2005. I remember how he laughed when I asked if he could promise me I'd be able to watch the "Dancing with the Stars" finale. He was kind, caring, compassionate, patient and just plain wonderful. And, after an emergency c-section, my newborn and I watched "Dancing with the Stars" together.

May God grant you His perfect peace, knowing that your loved one is now gloriously home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

I had the privilege of working with Bill in Gloucester since 2003. Our nickname for him was "Wild Bill" when he drove up in his old Jeep Thursday afternoons to see OB patients. He was funny, sweet and loved his wife and two kids more than anything. He would tell us about his plans for " date night" with his wife or vacation plans with his kids. We miss him but treasure the time we had with him.
He was " one of a kind".
Thinking of his family and remembering how special he was.
