John was not only one of my best friends for the past 40 years, he was my 'big' brother. He was truly an 'angel on earth' to me, my children, his family and friends. He never stopped listening and caring to those he loved. I realize how lucky I have been to have him with me all these years. Noone can ever begin to take his place. I will miss him the rest of my life but know he will live on with everyone who remembers him. I hope he will be reunited with his parents, other family members, and all his animals he so dearly loved. Heaven must be a happier place since he arrived. Much love, always, Jane

I remember how encouraging he was to me when I told him I wanted to pursue Entertainment. Always kind words to everyone. He will be fondly remembered from Class of 1986.

John was a gentle giant of a man. Always kind, generous and thoughtful. He had a great "connection" with students. I enjoyed working with him for many years. He will be missed.

Rest in Peace

The world has lost a one of a kind gentleman. Rest in peace Mr. Thielen, you had no idea how much you touched each and every one of us.

He was such a kind hearted person and had such a gentle spirit. As students, we always looked forward to having him as our substitute and enjoyed our conversations with him, and those memories we still carry with us years later. He may have had a quite nature about him, but he spoke volumes to all of us who were lucky enough to have him in our lives, even if just for a brief moment. He will be greatly missed by so many.

One of the kindest, most genuine and unique people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. He lived in a place and time where his presence was sorely needed; may we all learn from his example.

Mr. Thielen was a wonderful man, who was thoughtful, kind and caring to everyone he met. I so much enjoyed the times that I spent talking with him. He will be missed deeply by everyone who knew him, but his spirit will continue to watch over all of us.
