Johnny Richard Cantrell, 73, of Strasburg, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2015 in the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in Woodstock.
A graveside service was held on Friday, June 26, at 2:00 p.m. at Culpeper National Cemetery.
Mr. Cantrell was born March 24, 1942, in Dunham, Kentucky, son of the late Avis Buell Cantrell and Maggie Virginia Sanders Cantrell.
He was a retired welder. He was a U.S. Navy veteran with nearly eight years of service, being honorably discharged in 1967 from the USS Randolph at Norfolk, Virginia. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.
Surviving are his companion of 34 years, Peggy A. Henson; a daughter, Melissa Henson of Front Royal; two sons, Richard Cantrell of Tennessee and Kenny Cantrell of Winchester; a brother, Rodney Cantrell and a sister, Gloria Hall both of Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Kandi Kennedy, Kenneth Cantrell, Cody Cantrell, Tesia Cantrell, Faithlynn Cantrell, Chloe Miller, and Liliana Miller; and four great-grandchildren, Felysha Kennedy, Kirsten Cantrell, Kohen Cantrell, and Elijah Cantrell.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Meso Foundation, an organization for research for mesothelioma, at 1317 King St., Alexandria, VA 22314.
