Dr. Hourigan: Thank you for treating all life forms with kindness and compassion. May your family find peace and comfort in the stories told of how you and your clinic staff touched so many people and pets.
It is fitting that today I learned that Dr. Horgan walked on. He treated my mini aussie shepherd Hershey Kiss when Hershey was diagnosed in April 2010 with bladder cancer. Dr. Horgan and the entire staff at Richmond Clinic were wonderful. They were able to give Hershey comfortable and compassionate care. Dr. Horgan made a donation to U of I Vetinary School in Hershey's memory. Dr. Horgan and his family are in my prayers.
Dr. Pat was the best vet I ever had. My animals loved him and he was so caring and compassionate. I just found out about his passing. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family. It's tragic that we lost such a great man at such an early age.
Dr Pat helped many of our fur babies be healthy and happy and also gently pass from our lives. We will miss your care, compassion, and great smile. Our sincere sympathy to your family and staff.
Our heartfelt and most sincere condolences to Dr. Pat's family. We know we will never find a doctor of his caliber or kindness for our animal companions; he never failed us and always gave us the time and care no matter how busy or what time of day.. It was an honor to know him and he will be greatly missed. He and his family are in our prayers.
Dr. Pat is the only vet that our dogs, Cassie and Charlie, really loved. His gentle nature and ready smile will be missed by all creatures, great and small.
Cassie has since traveled over the Rainbow Bridge. I truly believe that she and others who have made the journey will run to greet Dr. Pat, eternally cuddling him with their furry warmth and love.
Dr. Pat was a gentle soul and his passion and compassion for helping and healing animals, as well as helping their humans, was truly a gift. It was a privilege to know him and to have him help my animal companions. Dr. Pat was truly a gentleman and a gentle man. My sincere condolences go out to his family and all who knew him.
just recieved news of the passing of my childhood friend. can't believe it.i have not seen or spoke to pat in 41 years, but i will never forget our stingray rides to salt creek to catch snakes or the old folks home to capture groundsquirerls.you did it right buddy. love to donna and family.
We send our sympathies to the entire Hourigan family and the staff of the Richmond Vet Clinic. We know Dr. Pat will be missed so much by all of you. We know his humor, compassion, and quest for knowledge will be guiding lights for you. We met Dr. Pat when we brought our ailing old Golden to him. He commented; " I keep getting these old sick dogs" But he gave our "old sick dog" a few more years of a healthier life. We have since brought two more Goldens to his clinic. We will remember his compassion, his easy style, his humor and his honesty. We can all learn from the life he led. He has left us all great gifts by walking among us and our pets.
Dr. Pat was a wonderful Vet. I will never forget the twinkle in his eyes when he worked with my Angel. I will miss him dearly.....Much love and prayers go out to his staff and family. God has received a wonderful gift and the best Vet ever!
Dr. Pat was a Great Man and will be missed !
He was such a good, caring doctor. He saved my lab! We will miss him. The Samuel Family
God bless Dr. Pat and his family with peace at this time. My heartfelt sympathy and prayers go out to all of you. I and my pets will miss Dr. Pat very much. My dogs are alive, active, and healthy today because Dr. Pat knew things that other vets did not. He was truly a gift to my animals, and to the entire animal community. May his legacy live on for a long, long time.
We were saddened at news of Pat's passing. He was not only a true friend to our pets, but a friend of the human side of our family as well. He will be missed by so many people. God bless all of his family. We will pray for you. Marge Anderson, San Antonio, Tx.
Dr. Pat was a great person as well as a great Vet. He became a friend of my dog Tanto as well as myself. Tanto was one of many animals who met Dr. Pat at the rainbow bridge. The was such a crowd the people who came to greet him had to stand back. Another friend said ,"it is a sad day when such a good person has left this earth." Dr. Pat free of discomforts, much Love follows you. our thanks for everything you did for us while you were here.
I bet right now there is a lot of confusion at rainbow bridge. There are many animals in the field that were patients of Dr Pat. He treated them their whole lives. He treated them like they were his own with care and compassion. I imagine that while we are sad that he is gone they are very happy to see him. They don't understand why they can't cross the bridge with him. They feel that he was theirs.
Dr Pat gave us 8 years with our dachshund that I don't think we would have had if we had gone to another vet. I can't count the number of times that Oscar tweaked his back and we would just show up for an accupuncture treatment and he would always fit us in. When it was time to say goodbye to our boy Dr Pat gave us the courage to do what was right.
Dr Pat will be missed!
To the entire Hourigan Family and Richmond Veterinary Clinic Staff.....we were so very sorry and saddened when we received the news about Pat. All of our prayers, thoughts and sympathy are with each and every one of you. "Doc" was a wonderful and very special man and he will be greatly missed by all of us here.
I will always remember Pat's humor and outgoing personality in veterinary school. I was deeply saddened to learn of his passing.
With deepest sympathy,
Dave Knaak and family
Words cannot express our heartbreak and sadness at Dr. Pat's passing and the pain his family must feel at this time. We loved Pat as a friend, a vet to our animals, and simply a marvelous human being. Heaven has gained a wonderful soul, and we must suffer the loss of a tremendous individual. Our hearts go out to Donna and their kids, his colleagues and friends, and everyone whose life was touched by this outstanding, kind man. God bless you Pat. With love, Mike and Maureen Lilleeng
We are heartbroken that Dr. Pat has left us. He will always be remembered as a compassionate and dedicated Vet and Human Being. We were so blessed to have our furry kids in his care. Our prayers for comfort and strength go out to his family, his friends, his colleagues and his staff. I envision him in heaven surrounded by all his patients who proceeded him. Rest in Peace, Dr. Pat, we will miss you.

I am so incredibly sad to have read/heard of this news! Dr. Pat and the Richmond Vet Clinic have been like family to us as we have been coming there with various different animals as long as I can remember (even coming as a kid with my parents). He was hands down the best vet around and the world is a better place because of him. I am honored to have gotten to know him and so thankful for all his expertise over the years, especially with our dog Magic and all the struggles she went through in her final years. Our hearts go out to the entire family, friends, and staff at Richmond Vet Clinic. May he rest in peace and may his legacy carry on. Big hugs to you all!
No words can express how deeply sorry we were to hear of the passing of Dr. Hourigan. He gave us such comfort with every one of our four legged family members. He was always there to help us make the right decisions when we needed to and more than once had to comfort us in our grief. To the Hourigan family our comfort goes out to you at this difficult time. Can you imagine how many of Dr. Hourigan's patients are meeting him at the pearly gates and are so happy to see him again!!!!
I will always remember our cat's humorous report card comments from Dr. Hourigan. Our cat, Milo, was pretty overweight and Dr. Pat's grade for him was a B- with the comment reading..."less TV and snacks". We are so grateful for the excellent care our pets received from him over the years. Prayers of comfort to his beloved family.
Pat was a valued member of our U. of I. Veterinary Class of 1984 who will be remembered for his kindness, compassion, and general Irish wit. The world is a better place because of him. I know his family and friends (two-legged, four-legged, winged, whatever) will agree. May you rest in peace, Pat.
Prayers of peace and strength. May God bless him and your family. Sending lots of love.
Prayers of peace and strength. May God bless him and your family. Sending lots of love.
Our sincere condolences go out to the Hourigan Famliy as well as the Richmond Vet Clinic Family. Dr. Pat treated all of our small critters over the last 17 years. His knowledge, compassion and sense of humor made taking our pets to the clinic for treatment or an annual checkup a lot less stressful. His strength helped to comfort us when having to make the most difficult decisions. In our opinion, all of these things combined made him the perfect veterinarian and a great human being. We will truly miss him.
The loss of a brilliant mind and a giant heart. Deepest sympathy to his family and his staff. He will always be remembered. Mary O'Connor and family
The last time I saw Pat was probably ten years ago in Florida at a veterinary conference. He was still the fabulously funny, compassionate, wonderful person I had known in school. Even though we haven't kept in touch every year, I've always counted him as a friend and someone I would most like to spend time with. He will be missed. I'm grateful to have known such a wonderful person who gave his talents to so many.
Hourigans...Pat was such a wonderful person. We loved seeing him and our dogs loved him. He will truly be missed by so many. He touched the lives of every person and animal he met. We are so sorry for your loss.
Dave Hourigan said it best. RIP Pat, love hugs and prayers to Donna, Allison, Matt and Dan. We're here if you need anything. Love, Brian, Sally and Shannon Hourigan
Pat, You will be missed by all who met you. Your table-side manner will be missed by Spaz and Samantha, even if they did try to bite you sometimes. Your expertise, knowledge and constant yearning to learn new techniques and treatments will leave a large shadow to fill and has set an example for all vets to follow. I will miss your sense of humor which is evident in the quote on the Fellow Mortals website "Working on wildlife is a humbling experience. I have to be mindful of all of my failures in order to get the one successful outcome, which is measured by how quickly my patient flees away from me." You will be missed brother.
Dave, Mary, Connor, Colin, Spaz and Samantha
Donna and family, so sorry for your loss. Pat was a wonderful person, had compassion for all living beings. He will be missed by everyone, including his four footed friends.
