Dear Jeff and Kelli,
I am saddened by the loss of my old friend and neighbor from Schaumburg. I will always fondly remember our times together grocery shopping with our coupons; our sons playing running bases in our yard; my dog, Cookie, visiting the Bernau residence for treats; my cat, Puffy, chasing the birds Jean fed, etc. etc. etc. There are many happy memories. She now rests in peace.

Our condolences to the both of you and your children.

I spent a lot of days in their house in Schaumburg when I was in junior high and high school and the Bernau family always treated me like one of their own kids. Terry and Jean used to say that the average family had 2.5 kids and I must have been their .5 child. Ma was just totally sweet to me - probably fed me a thousand lunches - and, because of that, I have made sure to treat all of my own son's friends the same way.

God bless the family - Barretts and Bernaus alike - who will miss her kindness.

What a great idea to send memorials to that school in Montana!
