Mr. Tirk was my band teacher in high school. He was one of the very best teachers I ever had. He seemed to guess how much I hated competing, so he gave me an instrument that nobody would compete for and left me to just play it, but always encouraging me to be better than I thought I was.

The obit doesn't mention the wonderful trip the jazz band took to Colorado, staying at KOA's and locals' homes along he way there and back. This is my fondest high school memory by far. And I suspect I might not be the only one with that opinion.

It was always a delight to see him when he came to hear the Woodstock City Band. I will also never forget his immense pride at his son's performance as a featured soloist with the band. I am greatly saddened to hear of his passing.

Bob Tirk will always be a part of my life; an incredible teacher and individual. He had a major impact on the direction of my life and on the lives of many others. The times we spent "discussing life" in the band office will always be treasured. See you down the road and thank you for all you've given!

My heart goes out to you, Ann! When it comes to music in Marengo, Mr. Tirk was legendary! As the "Music Man"of Marengo and the MCHS Marching Indians he touched so many lives with the gift of music. I am thankful that he started up the "Summer With the Arts" program and that I and my kids worked and grew up with the leadership and positive role model of Mr. Tirk. Those were the days, my friend! Thanks for the wonderful memories! May his legacy live on and may God give you His peace in the days ahead!

There are teachers in our lives that make a HUGE impact. Mr. Tirk was one of those teachers. He pushed us to be the best we could be and had such pride in us as band students. He gave me some of the very best memories of my life and I will cherish them always. Thank you Mr. Tirk. Love, Lynn Ponto-Peterson
