We met Alan through are children the Westendorps. We spoke with Alan while children ran around us and through us. Alan, never skipped a word. The world has lost a lover, a caretaker of man, how VERY sad. The world could use a few more Alans. We are grateful for the few times we spent time with him.
Dear Gary and the Bloom family,

Alan was a frequent visitor to our house across the street in Metuchen, NJ. His sincerity, empathy and ability to put people at ease was unsurpassed. We loved him and his wonderful family, and it is still too hard to accept. Rest in peace.
Dr. Bloom was one of those Tuesday With Morrie type professors. I will miss his advice and guidance.
No words can express the feelings when one so young passes. My deepest sympathy to my friend Gary and the entire family. May your grief soon become sweet memories.
One of the best professors I've ever had. His passion was one of a kind.
My deepest sympathy,
Coach Bloom was my son's basketball coach this past winter at the YMCA. He was so kind and patient with my son William. He and his amazing son Zeke were a great coaching team. I was so touched by his kindness. We live just down the road from Coach, so we were blessed to be able to wave and say hello since our time together on the basketball court. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Zeke, Jin, and Kuo. What a huge loss to this community. My son and I were so blessed to have crossed his path. Rest in Peace Coach Bloom.
we would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of Allan bloom. May the family find peace in their hearts while living through this very difficult time.
With deepest sympathy,
The Andrews Family

Professor Bloom was a genuine scholar of history who shared his passion with every student he taught at VU, including myself. My prayers go out to his family.
In the days since Professor Bloom passed, I've been recounting my Bloom Memories. I keep saying, "I'm glad I took Professor Bloom's History of Chicago class my senior year, because he was the type of professor who you would change your major for...just so you could have more classes with him."
An incredible man and teacher, Professor Bloom left an indelible legacy.
Gary and family,
We are so sorry to hear about Alan's passing! Please accept our deepest condolences!
There was no one more excited about teaching than Alan. I really enjoyed working with him on the summer Global Leadership program. I can still see him with his kids walking in our neighborhood. He will always be with us.
Professor Boom was a person who truly challenged me; to be a petter person and a more critical thinker. His passion and love for teaching, even to those not in his classes, is a gift that many have experienced, and many will miss. I know he has made my life better and I thank the Bloom family for sharing him with me and my fellow students. Thank you, and God Bless.
Deepest condolences to the entire Bloom family
There is so much that any of us could say about Alan, but none better than this obituary. Whether a part of his inner circle or an acquaintance on the periphery, to know Alan Bloom was to call him friend in the deepest sense of the word. His untimely death is a huge loss to his family as well as our community; his time spent here the greatest of gifts.
God speed my friend.
Our sympathies to the family,
We are so sorry about the passing of Alan. I enjoyed many days working out alongside him at the Y. Kathy enjoyed working with him at VU. His community work with Habitat for Humanity, the reading of the constitution 4th of July project, and youth coaching will be missed. He was always positive and friendly. He will always be remembered. May he rest in peace.

The Brown Family would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Colleen and the entire family. Mr. Bloom was truly an "angel here on earth"...
We are not supposed to always understand why certain things happen. We don't have to always know the reasons why GOD allows some things to take place. All that he asks from us, is to trust him completely and let him be in control.
Alan Bloom was the most passionate and intelligent professor I ever had. His creativity and commitment to history made a lifelong fan of the subject, fall in love all over again. Thank you for that Professor, you will be greatly missed
I was so sorry to hear of Alan's passing. He was such a wonderful person and a devoted teacher. I am thinking of you at this painful time, and hoping you find strength from the love of friends and family and the beautiful memories Alan left behind.
You were the one that gave me the confidence I needed in my choice to pursue a history major. You opened my eyes to its possibilities and I will be eternally grateful for your guidance and instruction as both professor and advisor. It was a privilege and honor to have known you, and I only wish there had been more time to learn all that you had to offer. You were truly exceptional and extraordinary. Thank you for everything, especially the debates over North Carolina/Duke basketball. You will be dearly missed. My thoughts and prayers are always with Professor Seguin and your three boys.
We are so very sorry for your loss. Prof. Bloom was always quite the character when he visited us in your Core class. Many prayers for you and your boys.

Sending my thoughts and prayers to Professor Seguin and your boys. A group of VU alum friends and I were recently just talking about Professor Bloom as one of the best professors at Valpo a few weeks ago.
Your instruction style was thought provoking and innovative. You were the first instructor to show me what a real Historian thinks like, and how he views the world around him. I am honored to have been taught by you, you changed my life. Best wishes to your wife and children. They are in our prayers.
Will miss seeing Alan at the ARC with the kids. Much love to you, Colleen.
