Dick was a pioneer for our profession being the first podiatrist to obtain hospital surgical privileges in NW Indiana at St. Mary Medical Center in 1972. He served as a mentor to me early in my practice and was always willing to help. He was a fine and caring doctor.

I lost a friend.

Dick Basic was the first podiatric surgeon on any hospital staff in NW Indiana. He took excellent care of his patients and was a gentleman at all times to those around him. Because he was an excellent practitioner, the hospitals opened their staffs to other podiatric surgeons.

I was chief of surgery during that time and I had great respect for Dick both as a doctor and a person. I am proud to have been his friend.

My condolences go out to his family.
