MILLIKEN--Christopher

73, died June 19th of renal failure in his home in Palm Beach, Florida. At the time of his death, he was surrounded by his wife, children and beloved pugs. Christopher was raised in New York City, attended Buckley School, graduated from Groton and received a B.S. from Clemson University. He moved to Chicago where he sold backgammon sets for Marshall Field and Company. Ultimately, he left Fields for a more advantageous job at Boise Cascade, Office Products Division. The twenty years he worked with Boise brought enormous professional and personal satisfaction. Blessed with committed and loyal employees, he moved through the ranks and in 1992, he took the company public, A year later, "BCOP" merged with OfficeMax. He became CEO of OfficeMax and retired in 1996. Throughout his life, Christy's charm and wisdom brought him a wealth of friendships. His retirement pleasures included sailing on other people's boats, playing golf, and cards. His poker was a lot better than his golf. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 49 years, Nancy, their extraordinary children, Kate Milliken Vaughey, (Tyler), and Christopher Milliken, Jr. (Megan), and their spectacular grandchildren, Tanner, Maddox, Hutch, and Parker. A memorial service will be planned in Lake Forest, Illinois in the early fall.

Dear Milliken Family:

Our hearts are out there for you. Just saw Christy's obit in the NYT. What a beautiful photo - and what a productive life and what a loss for us all. Wish we could see a photo of the beloved pugs.

We sympathize - can't imagine what you're going through.

Chris Milliken will be remembered as one of the good guys by all us Office Products folk who grew up in the era of Boise Cascade and Independent Dealers. My prayers go out to his family. May they feel the love and support that goes out to them from those who knew Chris and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

Rest in Peace, Chris. You were always unabashedly yourself, a wonderful leader and boss (best ever, actually), a good person, funny, and oh so kind. You didn't think twice about complimenting me on a cool tie I wore occasionally at work. You had no qualms about addressing me by me by my nickname, "Sambo," even though that could have been misconstrued as politically incorrect. You were you - a Great Man. Thanks for hiring me at Boise Cascade, and for being a sterling example of a fine man. I'm proud to have known you!
