Edithe sister Loretta paid for my brother wedding (Bobby and Shelia Blalock) and she did not have to do it. I said that to say that kindness runs in the Scott family. So, I can imagine that Edythe was just as kind. With sincere condolences to the Bagley family during your time of grief. Psalms 46:1 "God is for us a refuge and strength, A help that is readily to be found during difficult times". May God (John 17:3) provide you with peace and comfort to endure the days ahead.

Our chance meeting at Talladega College during the Birmingham period was a life-changer for me. YOU made me realize that by doing nothing to help bring about social change made me as much a part of the problem as anyone. Wow. That was a key for me. I will sorely miss you and our many phone contacts, especially over the past 15 years. YOU will forever be remembered and I thank God for your kindness, friendship, and love. H. L. Sam Queen

Gems among us...That is what Mrs. Bagley is and such a lady...YES SHE WAS SUCH A LADY. I met her many years ago at Cheney and she told me I had a good handshake and I smaile a big smile and thought to myself...Do women also recognize a good handshake and I must have smile so broadly that she read my mind and said "You can tell alot about a man by his handshake" and like so many others that spoke/sewed into my life she said that handshake and that smile young man will take you place and unlock doors to windows of opportunities. I was a lover of Theater and the Arts and it was good to see in a time when the Arts in Education were going away that someone thought they added value to the lives of those that performed and those that enjoyed the arts.

I will say I was in awe that she was the Sister of an American Icon but she was a Jewel in her own right. She was the epitome of womanhood and I so appreciated the refreshing way she displayed her ladyship. Heaven is the recipient of a precious one but while we mourn on this side we know that there is a Rejoicing going on on the other side of Heaven.Rest In Peace Mrs. Bagley and We were honored to call you neighbor, Professor and most of all Example.

God Bless You Family...You understand legacy so to say live on in her light would be an understatement...Live On and Tell the Story !!!

God took the strength of a mountain, the majesty of a tree…
The warmth of a summer sun, the calm of a quiet sea.

The generous soul of nature, the comforting arm of night…
The wisdom of the ages, the power of the eagle’s flight.

The joy of a morning in spring, the faith of a mustard seed…
The patience of eternity, the depth of a family need.

Then God combined these qualities; when there was not another…
He knew His masterpiece was complete, and so He called Edythe Scott Bagley One of His Noblest People".

Crossing the Bar

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
