awesome… I surely hope someone in the following I have will write a great obit for me like that RIP Antonia!
I had to read this 3 times...what a wonderful way to honor your mom!! Love, love, love her obit! May she rest in peace!
What a family and what a legacy their Mother left them ! Dream sweet dreams,
dear Antonia. May we all meet up some day.
I did know this lady.....she was as cool as most might perceive and she passed this coolness on to her children. Her son facilitated the accommodation of thousands of volunteers that helped rebuild the Gulf Coast after Katrina. He is an unassuming, very bright Presbyterian pastor who meant the authoring of this obit to expose as many as possible to the saving grace of Jesus Christ. This obit has been published in just about every major paper in the world. Know Him know peace.
If I am ever blessed with children, I hope they keep it as real as Toni's children did. Thank you for reminding us all that there is love, life and laughter even in the face of death. May her memory be a blessing.
I didn't know Toni, but I sure wish I did.
I first saw her obit in May, printed it out, stashed it in my filofax (yep, still use one) and have read it many times. In fact, I just read it again.
I think it's the most marvelous obit ever -- a testament to you for writing it and of course, to Toni for being the woman who inspired it.
Truly an amazing woman with an amazing wit! I'm glad it continues on in her family. She will never really leave any of us! I heard about her obituary on the local radio in TN and just wanted to wish the family and friends hopes they continue with the humor in life.
One of the best obits I've read. She must have been quite a character. Sympathy to the family for this great loss.
Go girl! I like you! Well sit down and share some wonderful waffles in heaven when we meet! Lol. So funny.
This is a wonderful way to celebrate a wonderful lady! I like others, suspect that she wrote the good parts herself, while others after her followed with her celebration. You most definitively and will be missed, Toni! Truly!
I cried with joy reading this. She must of been a wonderful woman
It looks like you will be missed dearly ! I believe it would have been a joy to have known you ! I will be looking forward to meeting you whe I come to rest in the arms of Jesus ! God bless your family sweet Lady In Jesus name I pray ! See you in Heaven ! :)
May 30, 2013 How wonderful to read about this Waffle House devotee. Unknown to either of us, we were of a coffee-based sisterhood of longstanding. I spend hours there, learning and reading. I wish I had known her before her obituary introduced us. Thank you to her family who shared it. (And I don't care who wrote it--I will carry it with me today...)
What a terrific, honorable, fabulous way to be honored..this came up by happenstance & by golly you are ALL SO BLESSED. muc love & prayers always
I never met this wonderful lady, but am charmed by the memories that she has left her family. I would have loved to have had her as a friend and am looking forward to meeting her in heaven! She will be the one with the most people around her, I am sure! The Lord is preparing a place for me and I hope she is my next door neighbor.
I'm sorry to read you had feline leukemia. Rest in peace.
I have a feeling that Ms. Larroux wrote her own obituary. Another plus for her. Meryl Streep will play her in the movie!
How light and deep and real. Thank you for writing such a wonderful obit.
She is alive indeed! You are blessed as a family.
We live in a small world, full of grace, kindness, love and laughter. This obit proves that! Rest in happiness and peace Ms. Larroux!
I don't know you, and had never heard of your mother before seeing this linked - and now, I really wish I had known her, she sounds amazing. She must have been an incredible woman, to inspire such a fabulous, hilarious, joyous obituary. I am sorry for your loss, but glad for you that you shared this wonderful woman's life.
How amazing is this tribute, Toni is a gas and I wish I could be surrounded by people like her everyday. Wish I would've been able to take part in her life and memorial. I'm not a believer in Christ, but I'm certain is she existed beyond being a Jewish radical progressive, s/he would've adored being her best friend. But Jesus is not the point. She lived her life to the fullest and tipped it over to make it even more fun! Cheers to her friends... Live life like she did, ok?
What an amazing woman, and what an amazing family you are to have honored her with such a unique, wonderful obituary. God bless you all!
This is truly an incredible woman who must have loved life and the people around her so much to deserve such a wonderful memomorial. Iwish I had the privelege of meeting her.
I loved how you honored your Mom with this. I've never met her (nor you, for that matter) and I feel like my life is a little more empty for that fact. Bless your family.
You did a wonderful job of celebrating your Mom's life. The whole world is celebrating her with you now. Awesome!!
I am sure she will be missed on this earth, so prayers for the family until they meet her in Heaven for eternity to laugh again :)
This woman sounds like she knew how to live! I only wish for a similar obit when my day comes. My condolences to the family.
Thanks for this lovely tribute. I hope my children love me enough to tell the truth with love in their hearts like this when I die.
This is a woman leading a parade in paradise. Condolences and comfort to the family and friends sustaining the loss of such a wonderful person.
RIP ANTONIA, you must have been a real heckuva human bein'
Wow. What an amazing matriarch of a truly loving family. I'm glad that your delightful sense of humor has reached so many to spread the love of this woman.
I never met this woman and that is my misfortune.........what a wonderful tribute to someone who would have been my best friend. Peace to the family.
...much respect for whom ever wrote this and is now the holder of the torch, many blessings.
Jean, I always wondered why your mom's ankles were so thin.... God bless her. Thinking of you, Hayden, and your families during this difficult time. My love to Kim. Let me know when y'all are in the Bay and ill run over for a visit. Finney
What a great send off for your mom. God Bless her and your family.
What a truly great tribute! I am in funeral service in Phoenix, AZ. This honest, heartfelt tribute, is appreciated. I wish I could purchase the Dollar General furniture and set up a tribute porch in her memory, or you could donate it to the smoking lounge in her honor! What a send off!
Posey Moore Nash
I want this printed verbatim as my obituary someday. You can tell she was a very special lady. Take care.
I would have loved to have met her at the Waffle House for coffee on a weekly basis. Something tells me I would have many fantastic stories to share. Bless her.
When I go out, I want the person who wrote this obit to write mine. What a great send out to what was probably a fun lady.
I did not know Toni, but I wish I did. What an amazing obit. I only hope to leave a mark such as she did on this sometime dull and unforgivable earth. What light, what love, what hilarity (sp?)!!!!! As I used to say "only in New Orleans, or only in Bay St Louis rather!"
Cheers and tears and lauhter forever. What a blessing....
What a celebration and lovely memorium
What a celebration of a bright light in your lives!
The BEST obit I have ever read! It reflects someone's personality--not full of a bunch of hyperbolic drivel about how allegedly sweet and kind someone was. How privileged her family and friends were to have her in their lives. May she have peace, love and, of course, lots of laughter in Heaven.
I am laughing until tears run down my cheeks - hope my children will be as creative - they can tear up the one I've penned.
So sorry to hear of your sisters death. Virginia Fossier (Mildred's niece)
Glad she was up there to greet my father-in-law; he rolled in a few days behind her (that probably explains the thunder we're hearing today - no doubt the two of them are getting into all kinds of mischief up there....)
Thanks for sharing your mother with the rest of us! Sorry for your loss, but so happy that you have such wonderful memories of a life well lived.
I didn't know her, but I wish I did. RIP
What a lovely and perfect way to say "see you soon"...
what a wonderful woman to inspire such humor and joy as reflected in the obit! Celebrate her life!
What an adorable Obituary. Toni and her family clearly have a great sense of humor. It sounds like she truly enjoyed life and I'm sure she is enjoying heaven as well. Thanks for whomever shared this on facebook.
BEST OBITUARY EVER! I suspect she would have loved it, though I can't say for sure since I'm a complete stranger who found the link on FB.
Mrs. Larroux is from my Dad's hometown. Sadly, I didn't have the opportunity to get to know her as well as my family did, but I sure wish I had! Sounds like she was one hell of a firecracker;)
Like many here, read Toni's obituary from a link on Facebook. What a beautiful legacy her life has left - a reminder for us all to cherish the moment, appreciate what we have, and laugh at this world, knowing the best is yet to come. May that message continue to fill your heart as you await the day you joyfully will see each other again!
I came across this obituary on a friend's Facebook page. I never met your mother or your family. However, anyone who could inspire an obituary like this must have been awfully fun to be around. Her obituary, strange at that may seen, brightened my day and for that I thank you. I pray your mother rests in the peace of Christ.
What an amazing legacy you have left as you have started the next journey for your soul. I think it is amazing that this is a celebration of your life, not the mourning of your loss. You'll be dancing with everyone in Heaven. I hope to meet you when I rock on up there.
i don't know toni, but she is my sister. i am riding in mardi gras parade in 2014 in the krewe of iris and i will be throwing throws for her.long live toni.and come ride with me
What a beautiful, hilarious, uplifting tribute. May your memories bring you comfort, and may God bless you.
She must have been a fantastic lady and I would have loved to have known her.
Thank you for the best farewell I've ever seen printed. This is how to do it right. Peace and laughter to you and yours.
I can only hope and pray that someone loves me this much to truly put real life into words just as you have done. Peace and love
I don't know your mother. I found this obit on Facebook probably from someone that loved the obit and didn't know her either. But I must say after reading the obit, I felt like I either knew her in another time, or would have like to know her in this one. Seems like a person that left lasting smile on the people that knew and enjoyed her and a lasting memory on the people that have now read about her. Dalia H. Hernando, Florida
Thank you for sharing Antonia with us, so very much. I can only hope to one day leave my children such a legacy as this--but I know they would just scribble on it with crayons anyway.
God bless all of you. Toni IS alive, so long as you keep her in your hearts. Thanks again for letting me have a little of her to carry in mine.
You are loved and you will be greatly missed........
Fabulous and this is the way it should be! Tell it as it is. Have a great journey Toni !
Blessings to your family - how fortunate you were to have such a sprite in your lives and to have inherited her zest for living. She lives in all of you. What a gift to be allowed to have a glimpse of your mom.
I am sorry you lost your clearly lovable, wonderful mother. I hope my obit will be as full of love and life as your dear mother's!
I do not know your mother or your family. I saw this on a friend's facebook page. I am a Hospice social worker in Louisiana and I absolutely love how you honored your mother in this obituary. It was filled with love and humor. I am printing it out to share at my office. Continue to honor your mother by living life to the fullest.
I'll have some 'smothered and covered' in her honor...Tribute is so awsome and she sounds like someone I wish knew!
I never met your mom or any of you but through this I've come to adore you all. What a wonderful legacy!!
I don't know your family or Toni, but after reading her obit, I feel like she was certainly someone I would liked to have known. You have written a wonderful tribute to her and one that leaves the reader smiling and uplifted. I hope my kids will remember me with such love and humor. Ann G.
What a wonderful mother she must have been to have raised children that can make the rest of us laugh like this. Hurray!
What an unforgettable tribute; sounds like she was much loved. Toni seemed to give new definition to the glass half full.
Never met her and don't know the family but this obit is awesome...wish I did know her...sounds like a great person....
"Do not weep because she is gone, smile because she was here" But in this ladies case, laugh out loud. Save a seat for me Toni. Julie
You all are so lucky to have known her. What a wonderful sendoff. Blessings
You were so lucky to have her, and she was so blessed to have you. What a beautiful tribute.
Waffles for everyone, on the house!
She sounds like someone who although she will be missed, she will NEVER be forgotten. God bless her, her sense of humor and the family that also have her special gift. The Obit made me laugh and I feel as If I new her personally. The Larroux family are truly blessed to have had her in their life.
The world would be a better pace if there were lots more like Antonia. And thank you writer of this wonderful Obituary!
To the author, well done! Antonia sparkles off the page as does her family's love.
Would have loved to have hung out with this woman! Looking forward to meeting her in Heaven.
To the author -- well done! You've filled in the dashes of Antonia's life well! I'm sorry for your loss
Honestly, this is probably the most loving tribute/obit I've ever read. She must have been a very special lady...obviously loving, and very, very funny. That sense of humor is the greatest gift, which obviously she has passed on to her children who are responsible for this work-of-art obituary. Peace to your family....I know none of you, nor did I know "Toni" but I know that we'd all be fast friends.
Best obituary ever. I'd send my condolences but I don't think they are needed. Thank you!
Stick a flower in your hair and be happy like Toni!
God is good...she was a great woman...Now she is with him
The love oooozes off the page. Oh Happy Day.
Wow. What a wonderful tribute to an obviously *very* special mother, sister, wife, and friend.
As a somewhat non-conventional person, myself, how wonderful that she parted early with it, and passed on that love of unconventionality to her children. Have a great time in The Great Beyond, Toni. And may your loved ones always remember you with a smile in their hearts!
Never met her but feel I know her. Great obituary. To her family, she will always be with you.
I never Knew this woman ..but i wish i had. She sounds like amazing person and a world of fun to have been around. Thanks for Sharing this.
Wonderful! I hope to meet her in the afterlife!!
Strange that a friend sent this obit to me, very glad I had the privilege to read it! What a joy this woman was to everyone she knew, wish I had known her too! God Bless the family and friends for sharing this as you did! I only hope one day I will leave these kind of feelings behind for others to remember me with a smile and a laugh!!
As an adoptee, the bit about the anonymous Mother's Day cards really caught my interest. I hope the senders turned up for the funeral and set the cat amongst the pigeons. I have a feeling Toni would have enjoyed that.
My daughter sent me this saying that it reminded her of me...what an incredible compliment! What else can I say?
I loved & laughed at the obit.Your mom was such a gift to her family.God bless all of you & keep those memories alive. You have so much to laugh about.
It's refreshing to celebrate a life's imperfections. In a time when we create our own ridiculously fabulously perfect Facebook identities, hearing about Antonia is a breath of fresh air.
I never knew her but I am sorry that I did not! Also the person/people who wrote this are just alive as she is!
What a great story! I only hope when my time comes someone loves me enough to do something like that! I best line of ot all was .....Dont wear black, I am not dead I am Alive!! rest peacefull in our Lords arms, but after reading this ..GIVE 'EM HELL GIRL !!
Awesome! I wish I had family members that would spend this much time on my obit! Just simply AWESOME!
Wow. I needed a smile today and this did it. What a special person. I'm going to remember Antonia when I feel down or I'm not being the person I want to be. Really inspirational.
Wonderful. Just wonderful! Did Antonia write any of this? Or did she leave her family with wonderful memories and loving hearts?
Her life and your telling of it inspires me to remember that life is to be lived with great love and full-on joy. Wishing you all peace and vivid memories of this wonderful woman. Thanks for sharing her life with us all.
God bless this woman and the children she raised so well. Toni, you truly passed along your love and a great sense of humor to the two "kids" who penned this. Absolutely uplifting!
What a tribute! What a life! What a woman! What a wonderful love of it all!
She sounds like she was a beautiful lady inside and out. Someone that truly loved life and didn't let the negative take it over. She's in heaven for sure. Our condolences go out to all of her friends and most of all her family. May you R.I.P.
Wow! So sad to hear the news, our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Look out heaven ...,,.Toni is about to shake things up!! This whole family is truly one of a kind!
Hancock Library Should Be reeling In Donations.
thank you for sharing her memory.. although we never met, i hope to meet her one day in heaven!
Mrs. Larroux departed early from convention. I hope I am well on my way, following in her footsteps, to living a life worthy of such a fabulous obituary.
She must have been very special. So sorry for your loss.
Atta girl! Look for my Aunt Helen in heaven! You two will have a blast! xoxoxoxoxox
True love. Sending condolences from an admirer of Ms. Larroux and her family.
I LOVE this! A wonderful tribute to a kindrid spirit. What I will take away from this obit?? Anyone wearing black will not be admitted to the memorial. I will add this to my requests.
I only wish I'd known Toni Larroux.
Please adopt me. I want to join this wonderful family. What a tribute to your mother. The last paragraph made me cry because of its beauty. Your tribute honored her as I am sure you will continue to do every day of your lives by sharing her joy with others. God bless you all.
Antonia! I have never met you and truly wish I had. Love you, and much love to your family!
I feel that I love her, and I never even met her. --- Tracy. Austin, Tx.
Incredible obit.....as Antonia Larroux Enters through heavens gates.....
I can think of no better way to be remembered than to run such a wonderful obit on the nytimes.com.
Another reason why not to pass by a Waffle House !!!!!! The real people go there.
This is a woman who loved and was loved in return. This is a woman who will be missed. This was a woman who made people laugh and feel good about themselves. Toni, I didn't know you, but you were a rare gem.
The world was a better place when Toni was here.
This obit is for real, Live on TONI.Save a spot for me.
John Storgion, Cincinnati
What a great way to remember someone who obviously had a great sense of humor.
I hope my children write something similar! What a wonderful tribute to a woman who clearly left a legacy.
I did not know Antonia, but what a great way to focus on the great life she lived! Thank you for showing that it's life that matters, and bless you all!
An amazing lady of amazing grace who found God's amazing grace. I'm awestruck by this obituary. Earth's loss is Heaven's gain.
May the God of all grace comfort family and friends.
I'm sorry for your loss.I wish I could have met her. She seems like a corker who had wonderful friends and family.
IF IT IS NOT IMPORTANT, DON'T ENTERTAIN IT..I THINK THIS IS THE WAY SHE LIVED HER LIFE AND WHAT A WONDERFUL WAY TO LIVE..HEARTFELT SYMPATHIES AND BLESSINGS TO EACH AND EVERY FAMILY MEMBER..HOPE OUR PATHS CROSS ON THE OTHER SIDE..THANKS FOR HAVING THIS ONLINE..N.LUTHER
What a wonderful original tribute. You were all truly blessed to have one another.
What a gift to want to leave those you love with memories of laughter and joy. Your obit was a priceless gift to us all!
The word "amazing" was used countless times in this memorial to your Mom. I'll add one more - She is amazing to have left such a legacy. I'll be there with you the first time you pick the phone up to tell her something, and then remember, and quietly lay the phone back down. (Say it out loud when you think it....She'll hear you.....) Regards, my deepest respect.....
Viva la Toni and the person who wrote a remarkable memorial.
I did not know your Mom but what a wonderful woman she must have been. I could only imagine your lives growing up, it must have been colorful and as you sit and reminisce your hearts will be full of laughter and pride so there will be no sorrow and pain. I hope your Mom catches up with my Mom. There will be a never ending party. May God bless you all <3
What a great family, and what an inspired obit.
This. This is how you write an obituary! Hysterical and touching--It sounds like she was a great mother. I wish I knew her.
May you take comfort in the joy that she brought into your lives.
If my obituary has only half the love and laughter, I will consider my life well lived. I'll have a cocktail tonight and toast Toni.
What a thoughtful, creative obit. Your mom is probably still laughing in Heaven. What a great tribute to her memory! God bless you all!
Wish I knew her after reading this. I would be honored to be memorialize like this. Best wishes to the family.
God bless you each and every one :) As you may have figured out, this amazing womans obit made it on Facebook (Rants from Mommyland). I hope you dont mind my signing and thanking you for such a wonderful written send off to you mom ~favorites and not so favorites included. You were blessed to have her, that is obvious, but I hope you all realize just how blessed she was to have you too. Love and prayers for your family and friends at this time... and jokes and stories to be shared. She sounds like a wonderful woman, I wish I could have met her. God speed Miss Antonia. Look for Katherine and Luella when you get there. They will be the two sisters in the old-time swimsuits with a drink waiting for you :)
A genuinely delightful picture of Mrs. Larroux. I cannot imagine the loss of this one of a kind person. She was obviously very bright and hilarously loving. She is the friend I have been looking for. When I check out I will search for her. God bless her family. Thank you all for this lovely obituary gift.
What a blessing to have shared life with this woman! God has another Angel for sure. Blessings to the family.
May The Lord, mighty God, bless and keep your gracious outlook alive forever. Amen, so be it.
My hope is to meet Toni one day! I didn't know her but through her obit you have shared her with the world! Blessed Lady and Family!
I can only hope that the laughter continues on for and with her, what a bright ray of light she shared. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful and humorous tribute!
What an absolutely fabulous and thoughtful tribute. From the photo choice to the last word, I think you did your mom proud. I did not know her, but am happy to take inspiration from reading about her sense of humor and obvious zest for life. Thanks for sharing your mother's life story with the rest of us. I can only hope that when my time comes that people will remember in such a fun and touching way.
Wonderful! You're all blessed to have had Antonia in your lives. I'm glad that you're celebrating her life and laughter instead of mourning her death. Enjoy all of the comments from around the world and know that your wonderful mother/sister/grandmother touched many lives!
Blessings to your loving family and Bon Voyage, Ms. Toni. Rest assured there is Clairol #47 in heaven!
Thank you for the smile, say "hello" to my mom for me, she's the old lady running around heaven saying "Pull my finger!"
I can only hope someone loves me enough to remember me in such a wonderful way!
Toni, look up Don & Marge and Frank & Peg - they will be drinking whatever beer's on sale and telling funny stories all night... y'all will get along real well.
Toni what a wonderful life you have led, while I do not know you it is a shame we never met, I am sure we are related in some way. RIP and have a great there after, keep a chilled box of wine for me and when we meet we will toast to all the good times, and be thankfull we never met the crazy!
What a wonder woman and a wonderful family. Everyone should exit this world with such color, smiles and love. I'm sure she is continuing on with the laughter, color and love...Thanks for sharing her with so many.
I only hope my obituary is this awesome. Here's to you Ms Larroux, you are an inspiration to us all.
God bless you and your family, Toni. What an inspiration your life was!
She sounds so marvelous ! You're so lucky to have had her in your lives, and sounds like she was blessed too! So sorry for your loss!
It is rare to find someone that knew how to live.
What a great legacy! Kudos to your children Antonia for honoring your memory in such a wonderful way! I read the amazing obituary on FB and thought wow, she must have been an amazing woman! Your memories must be fantastic! Sorry the world had to let go of you Antonia, but hoping you are laughing it up on the other side!
Undoubtedly, you will be missed. This is what I call "going out with a bang!"
This world was lucky to have you, may the next place on your journey be just as blessed.
Even after death she is bringing smiles to hundreds maybe even thousands as her obit travels through the intertubes. Forevermore I will try to focus on the friends I am having tea with and not worry about the furniture it's being served on.
What a wonderful tribute to an oblivious much loved lady!
My sister, Dee, wrote wonderfully funny obituaries for my dad and brother. I think this one may actually beat Dee's. Your mother and grandmother sounds like a delightful person.
I hope I can always access her obituary as it really makes me smile.
By the way, we all wore San Diego State Aztec or Chargers jerseys of my dad's to his funeral.
Blessings to you all and thank you for the reminder that laughter and love are our greatest gifts. Are there still seats available for the service?
Dave and Teri Ann from Soft Rock 98.9 Fresno California LOVES this story! RIP Antonia! Wish there were more like you in this world!
What an amazing tribute to Toni! Jean you outdid yourself once again. If I die before you please make sure my obit is at least half as funny as your Mom's. Loved it and loved her, she was awesome.
OMG... A world away, and no connection to Toni, but i agree with Carter- she changed my life. Tears of joy & laughter! Life should be this fun. Thank you, Toni. I'll catch you on the other side. Breakfast at the Waffle House... is on me. :)
I could only wish my obituary could be so great, what a lady her children are lucky to have called her mother
I was responsible for at least one of the annual anonymous mothers day cards. She always said I was her favorite anonymous child. Thanks for sharing a wonderful and humorous story of what must have been a wonderful woman. Be blessed by the coming comments from all over the world.
Would have been a real gift to have known you. RIP. Neat Lady! G.Kappel Vacaville, Ca.
What a perfectly wonderful woman. I am so sorry for your loss.
Looking forward to meeting Toni, she sounds marvelous.
How lucky were her children and grandchildren! Hope my legacy is half as rich.
This lady sounds like someone I wish I knew and hung out with! God bless her and her family, they obviously have wonderful memories.
Heaven just got a lot funnier! God bless you, Toni, and your family and friends. If there's a time-out corner up there, I'm sure you'll meet a kindred spirit in my mom. ;-)
Fantastic! I love this - beautiful!
thousands of miles away and no connection to Toni...but she has now changed my life
One of the best funniest and true obits ever. As my crappy duties when not doing real reporting I used to write obits for four newspapers, so I have some comparisons. Most were standard fill in the blanks, a few were thoughtful. None beat this one.
I didn't know Toni, but I love her. If you need bouncers to turn away people wearing black, I'm game!
WOW WHAT A WONDERFUL MEMORY I DIDN'T KNOW TONI BUT I WISH I HAD GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY SHE MUST HAVE BEEN A JOY GROWING UP.
Rest in eternal peace and joy Mrs. Larroux.
When I go, I want an obituary like this one. Antonia must have been a fabulous woman to have inspired such a funny and loving tribute. Condolences on her passing, but you will find comfort in the wonderful (and no doubt hilarious) memories that you share. You're in my prayers.
What a wonderfully funny tribute to your mom. Thank you for brightening my day. Can't wait to meet her in heaven.
I never met Toni or anyone connected with her, but she could have been my bff :) Many thanks to her family, which sounds a lot like mine, for sharing this wonderful and uplifting "biography" of someone who I'm sure, has left a huge void in their lives, but only God knows she left them the tools to proceed with joy and humor.
Thank you for sharing this tribute to your mom. I'm sure she is looking down with a beaming smile. I do hope one day to meet Toni's family (but perhaps I might have met her unknown family). RIP Toni and sincerest condolences to all of Toni's family and friends.
I read your mother's obituary from a Facebook post. What an incredibly inspiring tribute. My condolences but also my congratulations at being so fortunate to have known and loved her.
Toni you are a treasure. I wish my father's service had been such a celebration of life and laughter. Thanks to your kids for going through with this way of honoring you. God bless you all. May I suggest you read. The boy who came back from heaven. It will give you encouragement how your mom hasn't left you and you will see her soon enough.
Antonia - We would have been friends! What a wonderful tribute to an obviously wonderful lady!
She seemed like a woman I would have loved to get to know. I too would be having tea around her dollar general patio set, and would have brought along some big lots tiki torches.
What a wonderful obituary for a woman who obviously brought so much happiness and humor into her family's lives. Her children have truly shown us how to celebrate a life in words. Your mom is looking down on you and smiling.
What a wonderful obit! I bet she was awesome! My Mother was the same exact way...library books and all. May her memories carry you through this difficult time.
What an awesomely funny tribute!!! It's obvious that Toni had a joy for life and laughter. God bless you all!
She must have been a terrific woman and a wonderful Mom to produce children that could write such a loving and touching obituary, with tongue firmly in cheek and with a smile. She sounds like someone I would have truly liked. You were so lucky!
May she rest in peace, I'm sure she's somewhere laughing.
funniest i have ever read. Toni missed her calling. She could have gotten paid for this stuff. Look at all the Dollar General things she could have left you. (NOT TO MENTION ALL THE WAFFLES SHE COULD HAVE PARTAKEN OF). WISH I HAD MET HER. MY SYMPATHIES TO ALL OF YOU.
Your mom sounds like a very special lady and one I wish I had known! I can only hope my children send me off with such grace, love, and joy!
what a loving tribute ... !!! your mother raised 2 remarkable children!! i wish i had an opportunity to just meet your mother she sounds awesome .!!! prayers to your family
Have a lovely time with your dance partner...i. can't wait to join the celebration
Toni sounds like a great, fun loving woman. No, I didn't know her, but I read the obituary and thought " How fantastic! How funny! How wonderful that you all loved her so." I wrote my obit (and to be printed in the New York Times- my request) that is of a similar nature. I only hope it is as funny as hers. My heartiest condolences to the Laroux family (known and unknown) , Toni's friends (and I miss Waffle House, too) and all who read a most wonderful, funny, obit.
I didn't know her, but she was clearly a phenomenal person who lives on in all of you! Kudos to you for celebrating her life the way she must have celebrated everything while she was here!
"Smile though your hearts are breaking" is my lifelong motto. What a wonderful legacy your Mom left you. As been proven to me since my Mom's passing, I am certain she is smiling with pride and joy with this AMAZING tribute to her. I would love to know your family.
Bless you all,
This was a fun refreshing way to remember someone's life and how this person impacted those around her with joy and laughter. God bless!
What a rare marvelous woman. The world is better for her having been here.
I actually came across this on Facebook of all places. I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the read and what a lovely lady Antonia Larroux was. I am positive her smile brightened the world. GOD Bless those who will miss her.
Dear Toni! I just met you a minute ago (maintaining my well-deserved reputation for tardiness), and am SO glad to make your acquaintance! You rock! (and probably also roll, doubtless in a holy manner) You continue a blessing and delight, and I am grateful you have lived your life in the manner to which we would all do well to be come accustomed. If you know what I mean. THANK YOU!!!!!!!
I didn't know her but how I wish I had and I hope someone will have the wit to write my obit the same way. She has given you all something to live up to and don't you forget it.
I also didn't know Toni, but I sure am kicking myself for not knowing her. Clearly this was a woman worthy of knowing, of laughing with, of conspiring with, of loving.
Kudos to whomever wrote this obit. It's the best one I have ever read.
what a wonderful tribute to the memory of toni. may be all be remembered with such love, humor and grace. good night ms. larroux, godspeed.
Mighty Fine! Antonia, Not having the pleasure of the making of your acquaintance, I surely feel if to be my loss. And with the exquisite culinary taste that Yes! both you and I share...What friends we could of become! I wish you to not worry about us here. You can tell by this fantastically loving obituary, (its hard not to give it a fist-pump and say "YESSSS") that you're children
just adored you! Most of them anyway...Enjoy your new adventure...Our paths just might cross after all... Farewell, and Thanks.
Thank you for sharing your Mom's beautiful smile,God bless your family.
Thank you for the laughter you were able to share with others though you were in pain. You all seem like a wonderful family. Many hugs to you all!
A conflagration must be in progress for all the candles lit by Ms. Larroux's admirers. A more Inspirational obituary has seldom been appreciated, by this humble Hospice RN. Thank you for allowing her legacy to be enjoyed by so many.
I, too , would like to have meet toni, what a wonderful person she was to all that new her, and for you children to honor in such a way is remarkable, thank you shareing her with the world
I have sent a copy of your fond farewell to your Toni to my own family members. What a great sendoff.
I can only hope she was as happy in life as her obituary made all of us.
The greatest and most heartfelt (and real) obituary ever. And, she obviously had a full and wonderful life. Rest in peace.
What a celebration of life!
Wow - what a tribute. That is the most fabulous obit I've ever read and it speaks volumes about your family. I can see how much love you all have. Take care of each other!
Now THAT is a send-off! You sound like a wonderful family and Toni sounds like a hoot. When I, too, pass from this life, I want my unfortunate, un-funny family to hire y'all to write my obituary. God bless you all.
What a wonderful, humorous, life-loving woman Ms. Larroux must have been. And what warm, caring, humorous children she raised who will undoubtably add just as much to life as their mom did! RIP but dance on Ms. Larroux ......
You must have been a wonderful mother to have children who will always remember you with love and laughter. Thank you for bringing joy in the world. Anyone who inspires such a eulogy must have truly been unique. And in a good way!
Your Mother sounds like someone we all should have known. God Bless this astounding women and her family.
Wish I had known you, hope one day we meet. Put a good word in for me up there. Hugs to your family, they were truly blessed.
So, is Eudora Welty a close cousin?
I wish I had known this powerhouse and her incredibly candid family! RIP Antonia and haunt those that feel otherwise!
Rest in peace Toni. I loved reading this obituary.
What a wonderful tribute to the life of a unique woman. She obviously raised two amazing kids. It almost made me want to be one of those unaccounted for suspected siblings. Bless Toni, and may her memory only bring smiles to the faces of her family and friends.
Clearly the Larroux family knows a thing or two about life and death, and the celebration of a life well-lived. I count it my loss that I didn't meet Toni on this earth, but look forward to it in the future. Thank you for sharing your love of your beloved Toni with the world. Her obituary is going viral and will likely introduce her to many new friends.
I did not know her but my condolences what a wonderful send off to a very special person
Your family is incredibly blessed..and I only hope that my children leave such a loving, fun memorial for me. God bless you all!
This obituary has inspired me to write my own. I have always said that I don't want people to cry at my funeral because I am working my whole life to get to Heaven; be happy for me when I get there! Obviously Toni was a beautiful woman with a zest for life and she taught her children well. It is reflected in this literary masterpiece. I'll bet the celebration of her life was a real tribute to her spirit as well. She will live on in you forever. Thank you for sharing your mother with us.
Rickets? That's a tough way to go. God bless you, Antonia.
I didn't know this unique/wonderful woman, but I sure would have liked to. RIP and party on.
I am from Australia and I never knew this amazing lady or her family, but this is the best Obit I have ever read and it shows what an amazing lady Antonia must have been, I feel we are all poorer for her loss. My condolences to Antonia's family and friends ~ I have no doubt there will be far more laughter than tears as you remember her. God Bless.
Wonderful, wonderful! Great life, great family, great friends, great person, and great fun. Congratulations that you had each other in your lives. God bless Toni and her family.
What a beautiful tribute from two offsprings that without a doubt were raised beautifully!! Love never dies so Antonia will be with you eternally. God bless you and your families... My mom's name is Maria Antonia...,
Toni sounds like a wonderful person who knew how to ride life's waves of change. It also sounds like she kept it real for folks. I am a big fan of not being fake so well done Toni!I hope that she keeps them laughing in Heaven.
That obit makes me wish I knew her. Thanks for sharing.
I would've loved to know her, then again, I feel that I did know her after all!
What a beautiful tribute to a life obviously well lived. I hope my own children celebrate me in this way when I pass. I hope she is dancing with the carnies at Waffle House upstairs!
Hi, Piji, I'm so sorry for your loss. I wish I'd known this sister; Bay St. Louis grew such amazing people, did it not? Susie Paul
I usually avoid reading them, but what a wonderful obituary. I love that "not admitting anyone wearing black". She sounds like she was definitely a great woman!!
What an awesome way to be remembered! It's amazing you thought to write her obit like this. No one will EVER
forget her! Thoughts with you! Victoria ZLong
What a fantastic person! The obit is hilarious, loving and wonderful.
I did know Toni Larroux; she was my aunt, the mother of my only two first cousins. We lived one block apart while all three of us were young with our grandparents living halfway between. I just had to report that her wake, memorial service and "after party" were just as fantastic as her obit. The Larroux family knows how to celebrate a life...the memorial service concluded with the throwing of Mardi Gras beads and the impromptu singing of When The Saints Go Marching In. My family rocks!!!!! We love you Aunt Toni...always.
She sounded like a wonderful woman! I she is eating at that big Waffle House in the sky
I have no idea who Toni was, but I think she would have really liked the fact that my tea squirted out of my nose and all over the keyboard when I read her obituary. Please do not rest in peace, dear funny Toni. Continue to make them laugh wherever you are.
What a great obituary and a great way to celebrate your loved one. A wonderful legacy reminding you all to smile and laugh even in death, this made the papers all the way across the world in New Zealand where we appreciate a wry sense of humour (your mum would get such a kick out of that I'm sure). Bless you all in the days to come!
My condolences to the family. If her obituary made me love her how must it have been to have her in your life? Blessings to all and thank you for sharing her with us.
Flew over Mississippi from Florida on April 21. Looking down at the swirly landscape and the Gulf beaches I wondered what was down there. I knew it was tropical America, with peculiar colloquialisms, resilient, looking for shade. Thank you for a visual of a smiling Mississippi face and a latticework of laughs.
Long live Toni!
Toni was a dear friend during our high school days. She was a person I have cared for her in my heart for all these many years ....and will for all the years to come. She truly is not gone, and her spirit is as unique and loving as they come.
really made me smile...such a Southern style about it. What a great lady to bring joy in her passing ..and what a great family to use this to let the world know of her. rest in peace Toni.
I had to write and say I am truly sorry for the loss your Antonia but it is clear you have many beautiful memories to make you smile. It is also clear she was an extremely special person even though she is not here she is bringing smiles and touching people still. I am sure she is watching over you all. Thank you for sharing and prayers from my family to yours and may your pain be brief and your memory long all my best Kasey
I think I want to be just like her when I grow up. Thanks for an amazing obit, Toni!
I have to say, I never wanted an obituary because the people who loved me would know I had passed.
Toni's family, you made me smile and truly understand the gift of this tribute to life. You are taking her parting with grace and humor, the way it seems she lived her life.
Funerals are for the ones here on earth, not the departed. How can one feel sad about a soul who endured so much but had such a zest and will carry on in your heart?
I did not know her but thanks for sharing your biography because I enjoyed the feeling in my heart.
Bless you all and my condolences are not needed, I think. Celebrate her life and those who continue her legacy will never be without her.
I am from Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, but I live in Florida. I receive the local paper The Sea Coast Echo twice a week, and I just read today's paper, including the obit section. Wow. What a great obit. I didn't know this person, but reading her obit made me think about many things. She sounds like someone who had a good time during her life, and we should all be able to say that at the end of our own lives. Thank you, Toni, and my condolences to her family and friends.
A heartfelt thanks to the family of Toni, for reinforcing the fact that we need to celebrate the life of such an amazing person. With humor. At my grandmother's funeral, we laughed hysterically. This shocked absolutely no one who ever knew her. You all keep on loving and laughing. Toni must be proud!
What an incredible woman, I wish I had had the pleasure of knowing her! And absolutely wonderful obituary. Never read anything quite like it! May she rest in peace and enjoy that big Waffle House in the sky.
Many prayers for the loss of what must have been a Real Hoot of a great lady!!
When I get to heaven - I want to dance with Antonia because clearly she will be the life of the party for all eternity.
I am sad that I never met this wonderful woman. I hope my life is half as full as hers obviously was. Prayers to the family, and happy reading to Toni.
Lifting a mug of strong coffee in your honor. My thoughts & prayers are with your family & friends.
I'm truly sorry I never got to meet her. She sounds like a hoot! My condolences to her family and friends.
Blessing to your family! Great tribute!
Peace & Joy
Clearly a woman who "drank deeply from the cup of life." who knew it was waffle house coffee.
I never met Toni, but saw her obituary in the Times. What an incredible woman! There are few people in this world with such and incredible sense of humor and zest for life! God Bless Toni, and her Family!
Didn't know her, but from your words, she must have been a great fun lady.
Beautifully written. A family with lots of love! I have said for no one to wear black at my "home going" service as well. Like your mom, I will NOT be dead! Again, great obituary.
Dear Family of Antonia:
I did not know her, but thank you for the obituary. I read (literally) thousands of obituaries a year and this one tops the heap! Shawna Woodard, genealogy librarian, Dayton Metro Library
You know, this is amazing. If she really passed away and her wishes were to have this wonderful obituary made of her, then I love her for it without even knowing the woman. Thank you for bringing a little laughter and a smile to my face. May she rest well where ever she may be, and thank you (children of Larroux) for this wonderful little gift.
What a beautifully inspiring send off! There is nothing better than to truly experience love, joy and laughter in life ... they will always be treasured and remembered. Thoughts of happiness for the wonderful times shared, then and now.
Thank you for reminding us that death isn't the end, but it is only the beginning. I never met her, but this is the best obituary I've ever read and feel like I missed out because I did not know her.
I love this obit - and all the family members! May Toni's spirit inspire you the rest of your days! I wish I could have met her. Inspirational!!
What a wonderful obit and a beautiful way to honor her. I'm so glad I got to know her, even for a brief time - it is a great time in heaven with her there! Sending lots of love to all of the Larroux's and Hoffman's!
Thank you for sharing that wonderfully humorous and touching tribute to a woman who loved deeply and is deeply loved. She is surely giggling up in heaven. Deepest condolences to all of you.
What an amazing woman and amazing family. Absolutely the best obituary ever written. Congratulations on a life well lived.
The homage to Antonia Larroux which appeared in the Néw York Times, in addition to being a loving obituary to a singular woman, is also a fabulous window into the heart-warming eccentricity of a unique family's life in the Deep South -- and a southern family's life is usually somewhat crazy if told with so much honesty and affection! I'll toast Toni's joi de vive at my next Happy Hour! And to her family and friends who will sorely miss her, I'll bet she wants a wink, not a tear, when you think of her!
Will miss you my old friend, you are in the arms of Jesus now, you will be forever in our hearts .... S.J.C. in Worcester, Ma.
Wow...I did not know her either, but this makes me feel like I did. What an amazing way to send her off, I beat she is getting a good laugh.
Much love to you as you celebrate the life and memories of Toni! She sounds like a wonderful, full of life woman that left the world a better place for having been here! May her legacy live on thru you, her family and friends!
What a wonderful tribute to a wonderful woman. I posted a piece on your mom and grandmom on my blog at http//www.DennisMansfield.com Thank you for sharing her life with the world.
Sounds like a grand send off, great story! Sorry for your loss but sounds like the kingdom up above has a great soul.
I am incredibly homesick for the Bay! You have captured the wonderfully quirky spirit of this unique place in the way you have honored Toni. I wish I had known her better.
My best regards to the Larroux family,
Toni sounds like the kind of woman I aspire to be. Reading the love and joy in this had brightened my day and strengthened my resolve to live every day to it's fullest. Enjoy it up there Toni!
My daughter sent this to me and I have laughed and cried through it all. I wish I had known her...We could have been great friends. What a legacy she leaves behind for her family and her friends. Thank you Antonia......
My sympathies to TONI's family. She must have been a marvelous woman; even strangers know this as fact because this outstanding woman's life inspired such a terrific obit! May she never fade from memory.
She took me to the county fair on many occassions, and I always admired her ability to build a rapport with carnies.
bon voyage Toni....c u when I get there.....g.
My condolences but what a wonderful send off!
Sending well wishes to Toni and the family from Boston. This is one of the best send-offs I've read in a long time. I didn't know Toni, but I certainly wish I had.
What a way to remember someone. Best obituary, ever!
Rest in peace, Toni. If you were half the person this obit shows, I can only hope to meet you one day in heaven so I can spend eternity laughing with you. Bless you, Hayden & Jean for keeping your mother's spirit alive. May laughter truly be the best medicine and heal your hearts in this difficult time.
sorry we had not recieved the pleasure of meeting you,so we offer our prayers to the family.and we send our hearts and minds to pray that the Lord Jesus comforts you as you grieve your lost of your loved ones
I love this tribute to Toni. I love it so much I "shared" it on my Facebook page. RIP Toni, I think you might go viral.
Sending love and condolences from Oregon- I hope my family remembers my sense of humor and love for life on my send off.
Your obituary has become "viral", which seems so appropriate! I've never met anyone in the family, but would undoubtedly love it. God Bless you All.
All sorts of Awesome. Wish I had known her.
Heaven will be a shade brighter with her arrival. Cheers to toni's family and many friends!
I wish I had known Toni - she sounds like she lived a glorious life.
Everything about this is fantastic. Based on all the comments I've read, she is continuing to touch lives even in her death. Thank you!
Absolutely! I can only hope that my son finds the "humor" in my life and honors me with an obit as this. Well done family! She is LOLing in HEAVEN. :)
What a wonderful life. And obviously, what a wonderful family. She raised you right...NEVER take life, or yourself too seriously. I wish I had known her.
I am moved and inspired by your tribute. I'm mentally writing my father's obit now : ) Seriously, I am very touched by how special she is to you. You have my sympathy for your loss.
Such a celebration! Please write the book on her life... It would inspire so many to 'get over themselves' and live life large. Toni, here's to you and the way you inspired your family and friends. Salud!
Someone sent me a link to this, and I;m left wishing I could have known her. And that someone as talented as the writer will do my own send-off. I think Antonia is winking at all this.
I would have loved to know her and her family! I'll bet they had some great times and many stories to tell.
How lucky you were to know this lady! My sincere sympathies to you and yours!
Any woman who raised the kind of children who would write this hilarious piece in her honor HAD to be one incredible person! What a joyous gift it was to those who knew her, and how unfortunate for those of us who didn't have the privilege. God bless ya Ms. Larroux and to the family...a truly heart warming, witty, and genuinely wonderful tribute!
Wonderful tribute to a unique lady!
I wish I had known Toni. If I did, my dogs and I would have attended her final gala party. I can only hope my family has the wit and appreciation for my sense of individuality to offer me what Toni's family did for her.
Now THIS is how to live life. With a sense of humor and much love. Sending condolences and wishes of peace to you from New York.
Wow, what a life story! Dear friends and family of Toni, it sounds like you have much to remember and celebrate having known this remarkably 'not so serious' lady. I only hope to have an ounce of this humour written of me when I sign off. I'll raise a glass in Toni's honour.
My condolences to all who were so fortunate as to have Toni Larroux in their lives.
We should all strive to live our lives in such a way that someone will write us a tribute like this one when we're gone.
I have tears as I write this and I'm smiling at the same time because Toni sounds like she was such a gem! Thank you for sharing your memories of her with the world. May she rest in peace. (Marina in Geneva, Switzerland)
I may not have known Antonia, but I pray that I will be remembered with as much joy and love as she clearly is. G-d bless Toni and her family - and thank you for sharing her amazing spirit with the world.
What a great lady she must have been. Well-written obituary and I hope they have fun reviewing/approving all of our guestbook entries! Well done! Nice way to have her remembered!!
Laughter through tears is an wonderful emotion. Thank you for sharing Toni's obituary with us. Your loss is great but her legacy is immense. It would have been a honor and pleasure to know her. My condolences.
Well done Toni! I have enjoyed your many accomplishments! All my love to the Larroux family. Love from Memphis and Hazelhurst! S. Richardson
I never knew her, but she reminds me of my late mom! So much similarity. Always cherish those moments.
May her soul find eternal peace in the arms of our Lord.
I can honestly say you have let me smile through the recent loss of my grandfather. I think it's important to focus on who the person was, not your loss. I feel that in a small way I knew her just from what you wrote. She sounds like a truly amazing woman that Heaven has now gained.
Didn't know this wonderful lady.. but am blessed to have had a tiny peek into her life and family. May God bless you all for sharing this piece of her of her with us all. We are blesse by it! SO happy to know her 'real' life is celebrated as she delights in being in the presence our Lord. Praise!
Dance the days away in Heaven, Toni! And have the angels play Dancing Queen.
A fantastic obituary for what sounds like a wonderful human being.
All the instructions to be carried out on the event of my passing have just been revised. What a joyous obit. All who knew her were lucky to have had her in their lives.
What a beautiful tribute, I am honored and grateful for this opportunity to "know" Toni. Cheers!
Heaven smiled when she got there.
God bless, and rest easy, And thanks for the inspiration to give another day another shot.
Would have loved to have known this lady. I honestly thought at the end she would be revealed to be a cat. I am concerned about my obit and would love something like this. Rest in peace.
Well, I too wish I had known her-- she was clearly well-loved and was responsible for making the world a better place, vis the people responsible for this obit. You all are lucky to have been a part of this woman's life-- I wish I had been. She's gonna be hanging around your lives forever. What a wonderful thought, eh?
What a great obit I may borrow it. Wish we could have turned one up what a Great Broad and finer lady
One more reason I can't wait to get to Heaven. I'm picturing Toni getting a big hug from Jesus upon arrival, and smiles all around. I hope my mansion is next to hers! May God continue to use you, her family, to tell people about the JOY found in knowing our Savior!
I'm off to Waffle House to have something scattered, smothered, and covered in Toni's honor. Here's to people like Toni, shafts of light in otherwise dark days! I never knew you, but I love you anyway. Peace and love to her family.
This is certain a woman that role modeled how life should be lived. Honest and to the point. My heart is joyous that a woman I never met has met her maker and I was fortunate to have read this obit
I know her only by her obit, but I love her!!
Toni sounds like a character in a work of great southern literature. What a wonderful tribute to her life and spirit. My father died 8 years ago tomorrow and I wish his obituary and funeral had been more light-hearted and remembered his quirkiness. My sincere condolences to Toni's family and friends on the loss of such a wonderful lady from this life. But she surely lives on!
A remarkable lady of great grace. The world is a sadder place with her passing.
What a fantastic Obit. Wish I would have met her but after reading her obit and laughing out loud I know she was a great person. Thank you for sharing and my condolences to her family.
As many people have already said, I only wish I would have known this wonderful woman while she was alive. I'm sure her spirit is laughing and dancing on, and I send remembrance, blessing, and healing, peaceful thoughts to her family.
Heaven will never be the same when this wonderful lady arrives
What a wonderful life and legacy in family that honor her memory!
I found the obituary for this remarkable woman through a link on fark. It made me laugh and cry. May we all live as loved and leave as loved as Mrs. Larroux.
Toni, wish I woulda known you. Our petite ankles woulda gotten along swimmingly.
God bless you and thank you for sharing such a wonderful memorial!
What a fantastic send off! Here's to quite a lady!
I found the story of this obit in the DailyMail Englnd and felt compeled to offer my condolences to you, Jean and your Family. Your Mum sounded like a truly beautiful Soul and I am sure she would have loved this finally fitting tribute.
Kind Regards from Merry old England
I love it! I love her smile, her flower, her obituary, her everything! She would have loved my stepfather n' law who died a few weeks ago. He had us engrave the words "FULLY COOKED!" on his urn of ashes! We did it!
I've asked my friends to please write my obituary with as much love and humor as Toni's family has written in honor of her. What a loving tribute! They told me to shut up and write my own damn obituary.
I never knew Toni but it sounds like she was a very fun loving person. My loss to never have met her. She must have instilled these qualities in her family for them to write such a wonderful legacy about her. Continue to dance Toni....God Bless.
My deepest sympathy to the family.
This made my day, god bless you. In your loss you have made the world a better place.
What an awesome lady! I want my obituary to read just like hers...unique. Would love to have known her. My condolences to her family and friends.

Ms. Larroux sounds awesome. I can hardly wait to get to heaven to meet her.
I'm not totally convinced that the afterlife is ready for her, but damn I hope she is waiting for me when it's my time!
Haaaaaaaaaaaa what a great send off.
What a shame that we all didn't know Toni, but the amazing obituary has given us a glimpse into her fabulously fun & loving life! I'm sure she never thought she would get this much attention. Thank you to her family for sharing her legacy!
She sounded like a wonderful lady. Her family must have cherished her.
As someone who wore a fuchsia-colored jacket to her dad's memorial service (he died four years ago today), I totally love the spirit in which you wrote this obit. Thank you for sharing her bright spirit with us all.
My condolences on the loss of this wonderful woman. Enjoy the celebration of her life and maybe share a little Clairol #47. Thank you for sharing her with all of us.
What a wonderful lady, and sounds like she had a very fun and full life. I would love to of sat on her porch and sipped some tea with her!
An obituary worthy of reading as an example of literary genius for an apparently remarkable Lady !!
What an amazing person and loving family. I wish I had met her and was her friend!
I'm laughing, I'm crying; I'm sorry I never met this wonderful woman. My best wishes.
As others have expressed, I too, have never met her, I sure wish I did. I can tell Toni was a treasure. I sure wish I could have known her, but, in reading this I know ! Heaven is now blessed with this beautiful woman.

What a wonderful woman, what a wonderful family. This is how I want to be remembered.
Any one that can insure that they are remembered with laughter, private jokes and this much love truly is still a live in the people that she became a part of in life and now even in death. Laughter and joy in your caring on the parts of Toni you all now carry forth to share with the world.
The greatest testament to any parent has to be raising children who love live and whole-heatedly embrace their sense of humor! Antonia Larroux must have been the best mother money could buy... thank you for sharing with us a glimpse of this marvelous woman! May she rest with a huge smile on her face.
What a lovely way to go out...
I truly wish I had known this great woman! What a great obituary!
I am raising a glass to this lady I never met, I can only hope my family is cheeky enough to give me an obit as grand as this one. Condolences to her family and smiles to heaven, I am sure the place will never be the same
I've never met this lady, but I wish I had. She sounded fantastic.
Thank you so much to Toni's family for sharing her with us in this way. Your gift of humor in the face of sorrow will see you through all that this world brings.
I don't know Toni or her family, but I wish I did! I get the feeling that heaven just got WAY more fun with Toni's arrival. Many sincere condolences to the family, and congratulations on the best obituary in the history of history.
This is the best obituary ever written. I don't know Toni or her family, but I wish I did! What fun heaven is having now that Toni has arrived!
She's alive - every one of you are keeping her that way. Good for you! Condolences to you. Today, I will dance a little dance for Toni.

I never met Toni, but I will never forget her. A life well lived, I will share her memory with all my friends.
I hope her family find comfort in knowing that her life has made many people smile today. Her photo shows her energy and light. She probably would get a kick out of knowing her obit has gone viral. Sending light and good karma to her family and friends she left behind, thanking you for sharing her with the rest of us out here on this great big blue marble!
This family is love. RIP, Toni...you were obviously one of the good ones.
Love the last line ... Do not wear black ...
I think heaven has just been up-ended. I didn't know her personally, but the painting of her life in her obituary is priceless. I hope her family and friends continue to find laughter at her expense as she would probably have it no other way. Peace.
From this day forward I will live my life in hopes my obituary may read this wonderfully. Prayers of peace and love to Toni's family. What a beautiful blessing she must have been.
I hope that when my time comes, my children don't spend a lot of money on a funeral. An obituary like the one I read on FB would be great! Sounds like a lady I would have loved to know!
This is the library. We're still waiting for the check.......
A world with a person like Toni in it must have been a wonderful place. And her world must have been made wonderful by having people in it who would remember her with such a great NY Times obit. May Toni's legacy be that we all try to do the same. My deepest condolescences for your loss.
As a funeral director, I have written many obituaries. Not one of them made me smile as much as this one. Heaven has gained a wonderful soul! Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
Read her obituary on Facebook....I read obits because its like meeting people you would have never know.....I hope someone writes mind as well as you did Toni's ...made my day....Thank You!
Have fun at her going away party! Donna, Boston MA.
To Toni's Family, known and unclaimed:
I teach journalism at Florida International University. Among the assignments I inflict on my students is an exercise in obituary writing. I provide many examples, great, funny and awful. Toni's fits in the first two categories and will be part of my curriculum from now until someone writes mine. I hope you'll consider this contribution to the education of future journalists an honor. Or not, depending on how you feel about my kind. Either way, you sent Toni off in grand style.
Greetings from the homeland of the Tuscarora Nation in Eastern North Carolina. God's peace to her family and many friends. May her light and energy be a reminder to us all, that one person can make a difference.
This obituary is the only thing I know of this lady, but it's all I need to know to conclude Heaven just gained a delightful angel and this world has lost an enchanting soul!

Jean, I wish I could be there for the celebration of her life. I know you will miss her but you have such wonderful memories to hold her close in your heart. Love to you all.
I always knew this crazy lady would make it to the big time: The New York Times. Wow! Nothing but the best for a lovely lady. You will be missed, but I'm proud to have known you, let alone been related to you.
I have wonderful memories of Ms Toni, Hayden, and my Haas cousins spending summers in the Bay! Thank you for the amazing write up of her life! I'm sure she's laughing it up in Heaven as she read it! Here's to a wonderfully lived life!!! May we all enjoy life as Toni did!
Miss Toni must have been a real hoot. My sincere condolences on your loss. It's wonderful that your family is able to find joy in this sorrowful time.
I never knew this fine lady or the family, but I hope she and my mother can meet in heaven. I do believe they could share some laughter.
I never met Toni, but I am inspired by her life from the information in the obit. It is a reminder that we should live life with gusto and spirit and joy. Thank you, Toni.
That feline leukemia must have been the last straw for the earthen vessel of this beautiful spirit. Scott and I are certain that Toni's love endures and that she is alive in a world promised to us by Jesus.
So wish I had known "Toni" and your family! Saying a prayer for your family that you will be comforted during this time of great loss. I'll have to look her up whenever the Lord calls me home to Heaven. God Bless y'all!!!
Truly wish I had known Toni, but we'll meet someday and we can sit on the back porch and drink tea together! You are all so very blessed to have known her and I know you're thankful! God Bless each of you!
Must have been a fun lady. Hopefully, I can meet her in Heaven one day.
This is amazing and may we all have such an impact on other people's lives. This has brightened my day and I'm glad to have signed this.
Read your obituary and knew I just lost a new best friend I never met..... yet. Look forward to meeting you one day but not soon. However, what an AWESOME person you must have been! My new hero!
I have no idea who you people are, but you have made my day! If my son was not getting married Saturday, I would hot foot it to BSL to thank you. As I watch his new life start, I will think about you and your uniquely hilarious family. Bless your hearts.
She must have been awesome to be with... cherish your memories!
I hope the family doesn't mind that the obituary is making the rounds on the internet. Mrs. Larroux sounded like a fun lady with a great sense of humor. I hope it's a reminder to everyone that we need to laugh more often.
Best wishes- Heather in Memphis, TN
How wonderful it must be to be so loved.
Whoever wrote this obituary - THANK YOU for a great insight into this life. I hope y'all are prepared for a crowd on Saturday because I suspect this is going to go viral. Well done, and God bless y'all as you celebrate a life well lived and a person well loved. Cheers.
Sounds like she was delightful. What a wonderful obit! I have sent copies to all my loved ones with instructions to use Toni's obit as a guide at my passing. Love, hugs and prayers sent your way at this sweet lady's passing.
Although I never met her, I'm sure she is smiling down from Heaven. What a wonderful way to honor her.

I do not know Toni or this family, but wish I did. Comfort to you on your loss, and may your tears be filled with beautiful memories.
What a beautiful new angel. I didn't know Miss Toni, but she sounds like she will have some fun with my brother. Blessings to the family.
Toni was 'always' One-Of-A-Kind. Truely, the wold will be 'less' because of her loss. Sincerest condolances to her family, friends, community and World Les Pepperdene RleighNC
I hope I can leave such an impression on the world!
I did not know Toni but after reading this wish I could have. How lucky she was to have such wonderful family and friends that would eulogize her this way. Carry forth her torch, she must have been an amazing woman.
Dear Hayden and Steve, Charlie and Helen,
We send you peace and strength. Love, Holly and Scott
Jean - Thanks for sharing the life and spirit of your Mom in that tribute. I'm sure Heaven is much livelier place since Toni joined the Church Triumphant in Glory!
What a fitting tribute to a woman who loved everyone and always made us smile. I could hear the voice of Jean Larroux narrating as I read this and smiled. Your sweet angel is smiling down now. Much love and prayers to your sweet sweet family.
To the two "confirmed" offspring, the passel of sisters and friends, and the rest of the extended family, I hope you remember this woman and smile as I have more than once over the past few days. She was unique, as her obituary attests, and one of a kind, at least in my limited experience. I consider it a privilege to have known her, let alone been related to her.
Pleae write my obituary, Jean. I was laughing and celebrating Toni as I read your words. I am so thankful to have known her over the years that we were on staff at Lagniappe and residents of the Bay! Our prayers are with you at this time.
Just from reading this article, I smiled. The library police visit me too, so I understand the request.
It is sad to think of Bay St Louis without Toni as a presence. She was so instrumental in the success of the Bay St Louis site with her energy, enthusiam for change and her belief in people. I am a better leader today for my learnings from watching and working with Toni.
