Dear Elise and family of Maria,
What a loss we have all experienced with Maria's death! I too grew up admiring/idolizing Maria, from seeing her perform with the Ballet Russe, and then her unforgettable Firebird, with the NYC Ballet!
May the God of all Peace and Solace embrace you all, as He has embraced her!
I am 14 years younger than your mother, Maria Tallchief, but when I was 14 and for years afterward I was a ballet dancer who loved her from afar. She was beautiful and accomplished. May you have the peace that passes all understanding from the Holy Spirit.
Thank you for all you did for the dancers at the Chicago Festival Ballet. You are loved.
You don't know me but I felt very saddened by your loss when I read of it. Please find comfort in the words "And He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be nor more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. And look! I am making all things new"
I am sorry for your loss, She's in glory now with Buzzy and Jesus. Love, Debbie

My condolences. I never met her, but she was a guiding light for me when I danced. She was beautiful. Her soul danced.
So sorry about your lost. May knowing that God promises to very soon wipe away death bring you comfort.
If at death we are conscious of nothing at all - Ecclesiastes 9:5, then we who are alive should exert our effort to show our loved ones how much we truly care about them while they can still feel and appreciate it.
My deepest condolences to Maria's family. She was an exqusite dancer - a beautiful and gracious lady for whom Oklahoma has always been proud to call their own. Her legacy will remain but she will be missed by all.

I was so saddened to hear of your Mother's passing. I have been a fan and admired her since I was in the third grade and read about her in the Weekly Reader in 1953.
I remember going home from school clutching the Weekly Reader and cutting out the article with her picture and pasting it on a sheet of paper and placing it in a folder.
My children grew up hearing about Maria Tallchief and the Weekly
Reader and now you know it. Somehow I think your Mother knows it also.

Our world is diminished by our collective loss. May you rest in enternal peace.
Ms.Elise: My sincere condolences. Your mother was a great role model. I grew up watching films of her dancing. I too, have her picture on my office wall for inspiration for the girls I work with. I tell them of her Native heritage so they too may have success.
As Charles Osgood said: An angel on earth, she is now dancing in the stars. Maria, it was a privilege and pleasure to have been one of your closest friends in the past few years at SRAL where you enjoyed practicing Tai Chi Chih with me and others. I'll never forget your commitment to this form of energy, and how you particularly loved the "6 healing sounds".
Bless you for being my inspiration and though you have left this earth in body, you will never leave it in spirit. May you rest in peace, and never have to suffer in pain again. All my love to you, Elise and your family.
The world has lost a legendary dancer. I was a young teen when I first saw her perform in Rochester, NY many decades ago. She inspired in me dreams of being able to literally lift off the earth and dance in the effortless but expressive ways that she did. I could not follow that dream but kept a lasting love of the ballet . Condolences to you and your family members, one of whom I knew long ago.
What a lovely, talanted, focused, devoted, woman-with-a-vision. MY sincere sympathy to Ms. Tallchief's family and friends. Godspeed.
Elise,I never met your mother but I have a poster hanging in one of my exam rooms and tell everyone about her and what a role model she is for us Native people. I work at a Reservation clinic. Her picture has been in our home for a very long time. We love her. Our prayers and thoughts are with all of you. She will always be with you.
So sorry to hear of the death of Maria Tallchief. My husband has Porters in his family line; one of his Aunts said they had Indian blood in them. I wrote to Maria one time and she sent me a copy ofher birth certificate. I never did find a connection between her Porters and my husband's Porters. I would have been so proud to be a relative of hers.
I have a granddaughter who danced ballet all through grade school and high school. I once bought her a book about Maria.
The world has lost a great dancer.
