SCHAEFER--Herman A. . Herman A. Schaefer, passed peacefully on December 6, 2012 in his house in Southampton. Born in Philadelphia in 1921, he received a scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania and graduated 1943 from the Wharton School. He then joined the Marine Corps, where he volunteered for Navy bomb disposal, becoming an officer in the Navy, where he spent the remainder of the war on a battle ship in the Pacific. He received his law degree from Penn under the GI bill, and practiced law for several years in Philadelphia before receiving his C.P.A. and joining an accounting firm in Connecticut. In 1959 he joined Pepsi-Cola, where he was Executive Vice President and CFO. He made the initial contact with Herman Lay, and was the key player in implementing the merger that formed PepsiCo, as well as other acquisitions. After retiring at 65, Herman participated in different boards and investments. Herman was an avid rackets player, starting as a ranked national Junior in tennis, and also competing in the 1968 Olympics in Mexico as a member of the U.S. fronton tennis team. Herman is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Martine Schaefer. He was previously married to Priscilla Griffin, now deceased, with whom he had three children, Nancy, Priscilla, and Herman A. Schaefer III, and six grandchildren.

Ed and Margie Allinson spent so many wonderful times with Herman . He enhanced our Iives in so many ways and we feel very fortunate to have been a part of his life. Our thoughts and condolescense are with his lovely wife Martin and his extended loving family. Affectionately , Ed and Margie
