NELSON--Jerry. The cast and crew of Sesame Street, and the Board of Trustees and staff of Sesame Workshop deeply mourn the loss of cast member and creator of dozens of Muppet characters, Jerry Nelson. A member of the Sesame Street family for more than 40 years, he will forever be in our hearts and remembered for the artistry in his puppetry, his music, and the laughter he brought to children worldwide through his portrayal of Count von Count, Herry Monster, Fat Blue and many other beloved characters. We will miss his extraordinary spirit and the joy he brought to our Street.

In memory of Jerry Nelson, Watched Sesame Street while studying education (majored in Math) in the early 70's. Never really thought much about who the Count was at the time. My grandson LOVES the Count. Was saddened when I heard of Jerry's passing. Jerry made many children happy with his characters. A Grandmother in Radville, Saskatchewan

May it bring Jerry's family some comfort knowing that The Count is loved by a little boy in Canada, so much that he sleeps with five counts (three figurines and two stuffed) every night. We have a hard time leaving the house without at least one count. Logan had his 2nd birthday Aug. 23, 2012. With a count theme. Everything in his world is "the count". Jerry's voice is heard everyday on DVD in this house. Every time he is on, Logan screams and dances "Mom, Mom the Count, mom look the count".
Thank you Jerry for entertaining my son. I don't know how I would get anything done with out you. RIP.
Although he is too young to understand Jerry's passing, he will never forget The Count.

We have lost a gentle, beautiful, creative soul that revealed to multiple generations the whimsical, wondrous, light-filled, imaginative and KIND side of life. He will be missed, and we are left lesser without him and voice in our chorus. Let us hope that he has inspired a kindred spirit to be likewise: an entertainer of that which is edifying.

Hello Jan, My sincere condolences to you. As you know, Jerry and I were good friends from the early 1970's until I moved abroad and after I returned here. Fortunately, I did manage to see him a few years ago. Jerry taught me to dream and to believe dreams come true. He was a wonderful man who inspired and blessed many, adults and children. . 3 With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. 4 And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
