JULES COHN Obituary

COHN--Jules.

(June 18, 1930 - December 9, 2015). Survived by his wife, Nancy Goldner, his nephew Eric Cohn, and many cousins. He loved Judaism, Kafka and all kinds of music. He had great intellect, curiosity and compassion for others. He was my soul-mate. Nancy Goldner

I am so sorry to learn of Jules's death. We never actually met, but I was a close friend of Martha Derthick who mentioned Jules frequently. I was devastated by Martha's unexpected death just a year ago and spoke with Jules several times, was planning to write to him on the first anniversary. My sincere condolences to you.

Dear Nancy,
I was so sorry to hear of Jules's death. We knew each other through the New York Society Library and Hadar. He had more tsorres than anyone deserves, but he got such pleasure from all the arts and from his writing. HaMakom yenachem et'chem b'toch shar avay'lay Tzion vi'Yerushalayim.

I would add to your perfect obit Jules' writing ability (outside of academics).
Just in the past year I so much enjoyed 2 short articles he wrote:
one about chopped liver in the Forward and the other for Metropolitan Diary in the Times (Free Ballet at Columbus Circle). What a wonderful, quirky eye!
